| 2 | Discovery of Japalura chapaensis Bourret, 1937 (Reptilia: Squamata: Agamidae) from Southeast Yunnan Province, China显示文摘Due to a paucity of surveys in northern Indochina and lack of international collaborations among neighboring countries, recognized distributional ranges for many amphibian and reptile species end at the political borders for some countries, despite seemingly continuous suitable habitat spanning the region. Combining both morphological and genetic data, we report the first discovery of Japalura chapaensis, a rare agamid lizard believed previously to be endemic to northern Vietnam only, along the border region of southeastern Yunnan Province,China. | 5 | Studies on the Surface Properties of MCM-41显示文摘MCM 41 materials with a well ordered long range structure, a large pore size and a high surface area have been synthesized. Their surface properties including the number and the nature of the surface hydroxyl groups and surface hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity have been investigated by means of 29 Si MAS NMR and FT IR spectra and TPD of probe molecules. | 6 | Evaluation on Sperm Acrosome Integrity of Infertile Men with Varicocele显示文摘Objective To determine the sperm acrosome integrity of samples from infertile men with varicocele.Methods Forty-nine infertile men with varicocele were divided into three groups according to the grade of varicocele.Group A(grade I),B(grade II),and C(grade III)consisted of 15,18,and 16 cases,respectively.Besides,15 semen samples from normospermic donors were used as the control.The acrosome integrity of sperm was examined with fluorescein-labeled Pisum sativum agglutinin.Acrosomal ultrastructure was observed with transmission electron microscopy.Results In three varicocele groups,most samples had high sperm abnormal morphol-ogy rates.There were significant differences in acrosome integrity rates between each varicocele group and the control(P<0.01).Group C had the lowest acrosome integrity rate among the three groups.Ultrastructural observation showed that acrosome mal-formations revealed acrosomal membranes defects,swelling,hypoplasia,and dissolu-tion of the matrix.Conclusions Infertile men with varicocele had low level of acrosome integrity.Severe varicocele for infertile men might be associated with severe acrosomal defects.Evalu-ating sperm acrosome should aid the understanding of the sperm structural state and benefit the treatment for infertile men. | P. | 7 | A new species of Mountain Dragon(Reptilia:Agamidae:Diploderma) from the D. dymondi complex in southern Sichuan Province, China显示文摘Despite continuous studies on the cryptic diversity of the Diploderma flaviceps complex in Southwest China for the pastdecade, little attention has been given to other widespreadcongeners in China. Combining both morphological and phylogenetic data, we describe a new species of Diplodermafrom populations identified previously as D. dymondi in thelower Yalong River Basin in southern Sichuan Province. Thenew species is morphologically most similar to D. dymondiand D. varcoae, but it can be differentiated by a considerablegenetic divergence and a suite of morphological characters,including having taller nuchal crest scales, smaller tympana,and a distinct oral coloration. | 11 | Alignment between galaxies and large-scale structure显示文摘Based on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey DR6(SDSS) and the Millennium Simulation(MS),we investigate the alignment between galaxies and large-scale struc-ture.For this purpose,we develop two new statistical tools,namely the alignment cor-relation function and the cos(2θ)-statistic.The former is a two-dimensional extension of the traditional two-point correlation function and the latter is related to the ellipticity correlation function used for cosmic shear measurements.Both are based on the cross correlation between a sample of galaxies with orientations and a reference sample which represents the large-scale structure.We apply the new statistics to the SDSS galaxy cat-alog.The alignment correlation function reveals an overabundance of reference galaxies along the major axes of red,luminous(L>~L*) galaxies out to projected separations of 60 h-1Mpc.The signal increases with central galaxy luminosity.No alignment signal is detected for blue galaxies.The cos(2θ)-statistic yields very similar results.Starting from a MS semi-analytic galaxy catalog,we assign an orientation to each red,luminous and central galaxy,based on that of the central region of the host halo(with size similar to that of the stellar galaxy).As an alternative,we use the orientation of the host halo itself.We find a mean projected misalignment between a halo and its central region of ~ 25°.The misalignment decreases slightly with increasing luminosity of the central galaxy.Using the orientations and luminosities of the semi-analytic galaxies,we repeat our alignment analysis on mock surveys of the MS.Agreement with the SDSS results is good if the central orientations are used.Predictions using the halo orientations as proxies for cen-tral galaxy orientations overestimate the observed alignment by more than a factor of 2.Finally,the large volume of the MS allows us to generate a two-dimensional map of the alignment correlation function,which shows the reference galaxy distribution to be flattened parallel to the orientations of red luminous galaxies with axis ratios of~0.5 and~0.75for haloand centralorientations,respectively.These ratios are almost independent of scale out to 60 h?1Mpc. | A. | 13 | On the road to Mandalay: contribution to the Microhyla Tschudi, 1838(Amphibia: Anura: Microhylidae) fauna of Myanmar with description of two new species显示文摘We prese nt a morphological and molecular assessment of the Microhyla fauna of Myanmar based on new collections from central (Magway Division) and northem (Kachin State) parts of the country. In total, six species of Microhyla are documented, including M. berdmorei, M. heymonsi, M. butleri, M. mukhlesuri and two new species described from the semi-arid savarma-like plains of the middle part of the Irrawaddy (Ayeyarwady) River Valley. We used a 2 481 bp long 12S rRNA- 16S rRNA fragment of mtDNA to hypothesize gen ealogical relati on ships within Microhyla. We applied an in teg rati ve taxonomic approach combining molecular, morphological, and acoustic lines of evidenee to evaluate the taxonomic status of Mya nmar Microhyla. We dem on strated that the newly discovered populations of Microhyla sp. from the Magway Division represent two yet undescribed species. These two new sympatric species are assigned to the M. achatina species group, with both adapted to the seas on ally dry environments of the Irrawaddy Valley. Microhyla fodiens sp. nov. is a stout-bodied species with a remarkably enlarged shovel-like outer metatarsal tubercle used for burrowing and is highly diverge nt from other know n congeners (P-distancea8.8%). Microhyla irrawaddy sp. nov. is a small-bodied slender frog reconstructed as a sister species to M. kodial from southern India (P-distance=5.3%);however, it clearly differs from the latter both in external morphology and advertisement call parameters. Microhyla mukhlesuri is reported from Myanmar for the first time. We further discuss the morphological diag no sties and biogeography of Microhyla species recorded in Myanmar. | Nikolay A. | 18 | Fluconazole Susceptibility and Genotypic Heterogeneity of Oral Candida albicans Colonies from the Patients with Cancer Receiving Chemotherapy in China显示文摘Aim To identify heterogeneity of Candida albicans (C. albicans) isolated from the population with cancer in China by using identification medium, subculture molecular typing, and antifungal susceptibility test. Methodology Oral cheek mucosal specimens from 52 cancer patients receiving chemotherapy were cultured on CHROMagar CandidaTM plates for Candida identification. All the C. albicans colonies on the plates were subcultured and reconfirmed by API20C, then submitted to the antifungal drug susceptibility test with fluconazole and molecular typing using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA-PCR (RAPD) with primers RSD6 and RSD12. Results 54% (28/52) patients were oral yeast carriage in which C. albicans predominated. More than 7 C. albicans colonies were isolated from each of 12 patients (Group A), while less than 5 colonies were isolated from each of 16 patients (Group B). RSD6 and RSD12 were successful in eliciting 17 (A1-A17) and 2 (B1-B2) genotypes, respectively from among the 205 isolates. The two primers were com- bined to generate 21 genotypes. The C. albicans isolates obtained from the same patient and episode showed a diversity for fluconazole revealed by MIC50 and MIC90. Conclusion The heterogeneity of the C. albicans colonies isolated from the same patients can be detected. C. albicans with varied fluconazole susceptibility and genotypic characteristics may coexist in the same oral Candida population. | Jing Sun Cheng Qi Micheal D.
