1The enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP显示文摘In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. 2Seed-mediated synthesis of dendritic platinum nanostructures with high catalytic activity for aqueous-phase hydrogenation of acetophenone显示文摘This work reports a facile and efficient seed-mediated method for the synthesis of dendritic platinum(Pt)nanoparticles(NPs) at low temperatures of 55–60 °C in water, using L-ascorbic acid as a reducing agent and sodium citrate as a capping agent. It is found that the dendritic Pt NPs(10–150 nm) are composed of tiny Pt nanocrystals, which nucleate and grow through the introduced smaller Pt seeds with diameters of 3–5 nm.Further investigation shows that the dendritic Pt nanostructures display excellent catalytic performance in an aqueous-phase aromatic ketone hydrogenation reaction, including:(i) acetophenone conversion rate of> 90%, with smaller dendritic Pt NPs(10–46 nm) offering a higher conversion efficiency;(ii) high chemoselectivity toward carbonyl group(90.6%–91.5%), e.g., the selectivity to 1-phenylethanol is ~90.1% with nearly100% acetophenone conversion for 10 nm dendritic Pt NPs within 60 min, under mild reaction conditions(20 °C, 1.5 bar H2 pressure, and 1.5 mol% catalyst). 9Unraveling female reproductive senescence to enhance healthy longevity显示文摘In a society where women often want successful careers and equal opportunities to men,the early nature of ovarian aging often forces women to make difficult life choices between career and family development.Fertility in women begins to decline after the age of 37 years and it is rare for pregnancies to occur after 45.This reproductive decline in women is inevitable and culminates in menopause,which is a major driver of age-related diseases.In a world where biomedical advances are leading to modifiable biological outcomes,it is time to focus on mitigating female reproductive senescence to maintain fertility and preserve age-related hormonal functions,with the goal of providing increased life choices and enhancing healthspan.To date,reproductive longevity research remains an understudied field.More needs to be done to unravel the biology of the ovarian follicles,which are the functional units of reproductive lifespan and are comprised of cell types including the oocyte(female gamete)and a group of specialized supporting somatic cells.Biological attempts to maintain the quality and quantity of follicles in animal models through manipulating pathways involved in aging can potentially prolong female reproductive lifespan and healthspan.Here,we summarize the molecular events driving ovarian aging and menopause and the interventional strategies to offset these events.Developing solutions to female reproductive senescence will open doors to discover ways to enhance true healthy longevity for both men and women.Lu Dong Daniel Boon Loong Teh Brian Keith Kennedy Zhongwei Huang 2023Cell Research2023,33,1:1

16The influence of mobility among high-risk populations on HIV transmission in Western Kenya显示文摘Western Kenya suffers a highly endemic and also very heterogeneous epidemic of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV).Although female sex workers(FSW)and their male clients are known to be at high risk for HIV,HIV prevalence across regions inWestern Kenya is not strongly correlated with the fraction of women engaged in commercial sex.An agentbased network model of HIV transmission,geographically stratified at the county level,was fit to the HIV epidemic,scale-up of interventions,and populations of FSW in Western Kenya under two assumptions about the potential mobility of FSW clients.In the first,all clients were assumed to be resident in the same geographies as their interactions with FSW.In the second,some clients were considered non-resident and engaged only in interactions with FSW,but not in longer-term non-FSW partnerships in these geographies.Under both assumptions,the model successfully reconciled disparate geographic patterns of FSW and HIV prevalence.Transmission patterns in the model suggest a greater role for FSW in local transmission when clients were resident to the counties,with 30.0%of local HIV transmissions attributable to current and former FSW and clients,compared to 21.9%when mobility of clients was included.Nonetheless,the overall epidemic drivers remained similar,with risky behavior in the general population dominating transmission in highprevalence counties.Our modeling suggests that co-location of high-risk populations and generalized epidemics can further amplify the spread of HIV,but that large numbers of formal FSW and clients are not required to observe or mechanistically explain high HIV prevalence in the general population.Anna Bershteyn Kennedy K.Mutai Adam N.Akullian Daniel J.Klein Britta L.Jewell Samuel M.Mwalili 2018Infectious Disease Modelling2018,3,1:1
