1Topographic species-habitat associations of tree species in a heterogeneous tropical karst seasonal rain forest, China显示文摘Aims Tropical and subtropical karst forests of south China are under increas-ing pressure from over-exploitation causing widespread habitat degra-dation and biodiversity loss.Previous research has demonstrated that topography,as a proxy for resource availability,plays an important role in shaping tree species distributions in tropical forests.However,the association between growth stages and habitats types has not been considered in this analysis.Our aim was to examine the differences among different habitat types to determine whether tree species show similar species-habitat associations at young and mature life stages.Methods We used multivariate regression tree analysis to examined species-habitat associations among eight topographically defined habitats.The results were tested with a torus-translation test and canonical correspondence analysis(CCA)for 74 species in a 15 ha karst tropi-cal seasonal rain forest at the Nonggang National Natural Reserve in south China.We considered two life stages(young and mature)of trees species that showed a positive association with topography.Important Findings We found marked differences in community characteristics and number of associations among the eight habitats.Of the 74 species subjected to torus-translation test,63 had significant positive and 70 had significant negative associations with one or more of the eight habitats.Positive associations were more frequent in higher elevation habitats and negative associations were more frequent in lower eleva-tion habitats.This suggests that edaphic and hydrological variation related to topography play important roles in habitat partitioning in heterogeneous karst forests.For the 63 tree species with significant positive associations to at least one habitat,40 of them had the same positive association at young and mature life stages.The CCA revealed that the six topographic variables considered had consistent relation-ships with species distribution among all individuals and their two life stages.This indicates that most of the karst forest tree species show consistent associations with a single habitat throughout their life.We conclude that niche differentiation plays an important role in main-taining the diversity of this heterogeneous species-rich karst forest.Yili Guo Bin Wang Azim U.Mallik Fuzhao Huang Wusheng Xiang Tao Ding Shujun Wen Shuhua Lu Dongxing Li Yunlin He Xiankun Li 2017Journal of Plant Ecology2017,10,3:6
2Distribution characteristics of total mercury and methylmercury in the topsoil and dust of Xiamen, China显示文摘The levels and distribution of mercury (Hg) species, including total mercury (THg) and methylmercury (MeHg) in the topsoil and dust collected from twenty sampling stations located in different land function areas of Xiamen, China, were investigated. The THg concentrations in topsoil ranged from 0.071 to 1.2 mg/kg, and in dust ranged from of 0.034 to 1.4 mg/kg. For stations where the THg of dust was less than 0.31 mg/kg, THg concentrations in the topsoil were significantly correlated to those in the corresponding dust (r = 0.597, n = 16, P = 0.014). The MeHg concentrations in topsoil were varied between 0.14 and 5.7 μg/kg. The ratios of MeHg/THg in the topsoil ranged from 0.069% to 0.74%. The range of MeHg concentration in the dust were 0.092–2.3 μg/kg. The ratios of MeHg/THg in the dust were at the same level as those in the topsoil. The MeHg concentrations in both topsoil and dust were linked to corresponding THg concentrations and soil organic matter. 3Highly Durable and Fast Response Fabric Strain Sensor for Movement Monitoring Under Extreme Conditions显示文摘The exploration of smart electronic textiles is a common goal to improve people’s quality of life.However,current smart e-textiles still face challenges such as being prone to failure under humid or cold conditions,lack of washing durability and chemical fragility.Herein,a multifunctional strain sensor with a negative resistance change was developed based on the excellent elasticity of knitted fabrics.A reduced graphene oxide(rGO)conductive fabric was first obtained by electrostatic self-assembly of chitosan(CS).Then a strain sensor was prepared using a dip-coating process to adsorb nanoscale silica dioxide and poly(dimethylsiloxane)(PDMS).A broad working range of 60%,a fast response time(22 ms)and stable cycling durability over 4000 cycles were simultaneously achieved using the prepared sensor.Furthermore,the sensor showed excel-lent superhydrophobicity,photothermal effects and UV protection,as graphene,silica and PDMS acted in synergy.This multifunctional sensor could be mounted on human joints to perform tasks,including activity monitoring,medical rehabili-tation evaluation and gesture recognition,due to its superior electromechanical capabilities.Based on its multiple superior properties,this sensor could be used as winter sportswear for athletes to track their actions without being impacted by water and as a warmer to ensure the wearer's comfort.Dongxing Lu Shiqin Liao Yao Chu Yibing Cai Qufu Wei Kunlin Chen Qingqing Wang 2023Advanced Fiber Materials2023,5,1:2

6An amphiphilic molecule with a single fluorophore exhibits multiple stimuli-responsive behavior显示文摘Fluorescent materials that respond to multiple stimuli have broad applications ranging from sensing and bioimaging to information encryption.Herein,we report the design and synthesis of a single-fluorophorebased amphiphile DCSO,which shows temperature-,solvent-,humidity-,and radiation-dependent fluorescence.DCSO consists of a dicyanostilbene(DCS)group as a rigid hydrophobic core with oligo(ethylene glycol)(OEG)chains at both ends as a flexible hydrophilic periphery.The DCS group acts as a highly efficient fluorophore,while the OEG chain endows the molecule with thermo-responsiveness.Fluorescent colors can vary from blue to green to yellow in response to external stimuli.On the basis of light radiation,we demonstrate that this system can be applied to time-dependent information encryption,in which the correct information can only be read at a specific time under irradiation.This work further demonstrates the usefulness and application of single-fluorophore-based luminescent materials with multiple stimuli-responsive functions.Dongxing Ren Lu Tang Zhiying Wu Qiaona Zhang Tangxin Xiao Robert B.P.Elmes Leyong Wang 2023Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,11:0
