2X-ray imaging of 30 year old wine grape wood reveals cumulative impacts of rootstocks on scion secondary growth and Ravaz index显示文摘Annual rings from 30 year old vines in a California rootstock trial were measured to determine the effects of 15 different rootstocks on Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon scions.Viticultural traits measuring vegetative growth, yield, berry quality, and nutrient uptake were collected at the beginning(1995 to 1999)and end(2017 to 2020)of the lifetime of a vineyard initially planted in 1991 and removed in 2021.X-ray Computed Tomography(CT)was used to measure ring widths in 103 vines.Ring width was modeled as a function of ring number using a negative exponential model.Early and late wood ring widths, cambium width, and scion trunk radius were correlated with 27 traits.Modeling of annual ring width shows that scions alter the width of the first rings but that rootstocks alter the decay of later rings, consistently shortening ring width throughout the lifetime of the vine.Ravaz index, juice pH,photosynthetic assimilation and transpiration rates, and instantaneous water use efficiency are correlated with scion trunk radius.Ultimately, our research indicates that rootstocks modulate secondary growth over years, altering physiology and agronomic traits.Rootstocks act in similar but distinct ways from climate to modulate ring width, which borrowing techniques from dendrochronology, can be used to monitor both genetic and environmental effects in woody perennial crop species.ZoëMigicovsky Michelle Y.Quigley Joey Mullins Tahira Ali Joel F.Swift Anita Rose Agasaveeran Joseph D.Dougherty Brendan Michael Grant Ilayda Korkmaz Maneesh Reddy Malpeddi Emily L.McNichol Andrew W.Sharp Jackie L.Harris Danielle R.Hopkins Lindsay M.Jordan Misha T.Kwasniewski R.Keith Striegler Asia L.Dowtin Stephanie Stotts Peter Cousins Daniel H.Chitwood 2023Horticulture Research2023,10,1:1
3Application of robotic technologies in lower gastrointestinal tract endoscopy:A systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND Conventional optical colonoscopy is considered the gold standard investigation for colorectal tract pathology including colorectal malignancy, polyps and inflammatory bowel disease.Inherent limitations exist with current generation endoscopic technologies, including, but not limited to,patient discomfort, endoscopist fatigue, narrow field of view and missed pathology behind colonic folds.Rapid developments in medical robotics have led to the emergence of a variety of next-generation robotically-augmented technologies that could overcome these limitations.AIM To provide a comprehensive summary of recent developments in the application of robotics in lower gastrointestinal tract endoscopy.METHODS A systematic review of the literature was performed from January 1,2000 to the January 7,2021 using EMBASE,MEDLINE and Cochrane databases.Studies reporting data on the use of robotic technology in ex vivo or in vivo animal and human experiments were included. In vitro studies(studies using synthetic colon models),studies evaluating non-robotic technology, robotic technology aimed at the upper gastrointestinal tract or paediatric endoscopy were excluded.System ergonomics, safety, visualisation, and diagnostic/therapeutic capabilities were assessed.RESULTS Initial literature searching identified 814 potentially eligible studies, from which 37 were deemed suitable for inclusion.Included studies were classified according to the actuation modality of the robotic device(s)as electromechanical(EM)(n=13),pneumatic(n=11),hydraulic(n=1),magnetic(n=10)and hybrid(n=2)mechanisms.Five devices have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, however most of the technologies reviewed remain in the early phases of testing and development.Level 1 evidence is lacking at present, but early reports suggest that these technologies may be associated with improved pain and safety. The reviewed devices appear to be ergonomically capable and efficient though to date no reports have convincingly shown diagnostic or therapeutic superiority over conventional colonoscopy.CONCLUSION Significant progress in robotic colonoscopy has been made over the last couple of decades.Improvements in design together with the integration of semiautonomous and autonomous systems over the next decade will potentially result in robotic colonoscopy becoming more commonplace.Harpreet Kaur Sekhon Inderjit Singh Emily Rose Armstrong Sujay Shah Reza MirnezamiColorectal Surgery The Royal Free Hospital London NWQG Hampstead United Kingdom 2021World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2021,13,12:0
4An examination of the population dynamics of syngnathid fishes within Tampa Bay,Florida,USA显示文摘Seagrass ecosystems worldwide have been declining, leading to a decrease in associated fish populations, especiallythose with low mobility such as syngnathids (pipefish and seahorses). This two-year pilot study investigated seasonal patterns indensity, growth, site fidelity, and population dynamics of Tampa Bay (FL) syngnathid fishes at a site adjacent to two marinas underconstruction. Using a modified mark-recapture technique, fish were collected periodically from three closely located sites thatvaried in seagrass species (Thalassia spp., Syringodium spp., and mixed-grass sites) and their distance from open water, but hadconsistent physical/chemical environmental characteristics. Fish were marked, photographed for body size and gender measurements, and released the same day at the capture site. Of the 5695 individuals surveyed, 49 individuals were recaptured, indicatinga large, flexible population. Population density peaks were observed in July of both years, with low densities in late winter andlate summer. Spatially, syngnathid densities were highest closest to the mouth of the bay and lowest near the shoreline. Sevenspecies of syngnathid fishes were observed, and species-specific patterns of seagrass use emerged during the study. However, only two species, Syngnathus scovelli and Hippocampus zosterae, were observed at high frequencies. For these two species, bodysize decreased across the study period, but while S. scovelli's population density decreased, H. zosterae's increased. Across six ofthe seven species, population size declined over the course of this preliminary study; however, seasonal shifts were impossible todistinguish from potential anthropogenic effects ofHeather D.MASONJONES Emily ROSE Lori Benson McRAE Danielle L.DIXSON 2010Current Zoology2010,56,1:0
