| 1 | Receiver function analysis for seismic structure of the crust and uppermost mantle in the Liupanshan area, China显示文摘A portable broadband seismic array was deployed from the northeast Tibetan Plateau to the southwest Ordos block, China. The seismic structure of the crust and uppermost mantle of the Liupanshan area is obtained using receiver function analysis of teleseismic body waves. The crustal thickness and Poisson's ratios are estimated by stacking the weighted amplitudes of receiver functions. Our results reveal complex seismic phases in the Liupanshan area, implying intense deformation at the boundary between the Tibetan Plateau and the Ordos block. The average crustal thickness is 51.5 km in the northeast Tibetan Plateau, 53.5 km in the Liupan Mountain and 50 km in the southwest Ordos block, resulting in a concave Moho beneath the Liupan Mountain. The Poisson's ratio of the Liupanshan area varies between 0.27-0.29, higher than the value of 0.25-0.26 to the east and west of the Liupan Mountain, suggesting partial melting in the lower crust. | 3 | Advances in MoS_2-Based Field Effect Transistors(FETs)显示文摘This paper reviews the original achievements and advances regarding the field effect transistor(FET) fabricated from one of the most studied transition metal dichalcogenides: two-dimensional Mo S2. Not like graphene, which is highlighted by a gapless Dirac cone band structure, Monolayer Mo S2 is featured with a 1.9 e V gapped direct energy band thus facilitates convenient electronic and/or optoelectronic modulation of its physical properties in FET structure. Indeed,many Mo S2 devices based on FET architecture such as phototransistors, memory devices, and sensors have been studied and extraordinary properties such as excellent mobility, ON/OFF ratio, and sensitivity of these devices have been exhibited. However, further developments in FET device applications depend a lot on if novel physics would be involved in them. In this review, an overview on advances and developments in the Mo S2-based FETs are presented. Engineering of Mo S2-based FETs will be discussed in details for understanding contact physics, formation of gate dielectric, and doping strategies. | 5 | Effects of water depth on clonal characteristics and biomass allocation of Halophila ovalis (Hydrocharitaceae)显示文摘Halophila ovalis is a dioecious seagrass with a wide geographical and water depth range.The objective of this study was to understand its plasticity in clonal characteristics and biomass and also its allocation between above-and belowground in seagrass beds at different water depths.Methods Four monospecific H.ovalis beds,Shabei,Xialongwei,Beimu and Yingluo,which have different water depths at maximum tide level(MTL)but otherwise similar environmental conditions,were studied.We measured main clonal characteristics,i.e.horizontal internodal length,branching angle,shoot height,leaf length and width,and rhizome diameter.Above-and belowground biomasses of H.ovalis were also estimated using a harvest method.Important Findings We found no significant differences in coverage,leaf pair density or number of stem nodes per square meter between the four study sites.However,horizontal internodal length,leaf length,width,rhizome diameter and shoot height all increased significantly with the increases in water depth from 2-to 9-m MTL and decreased when the water depths were greater than 9-m MTL.No significant difference in above-or belowground biomass between the seagrass beds was found.However,the ratio of above-to belowground biomass was significantly higher in the shallowest site compared to the other three seagrass beds,indicating that more biomass was stored belowground in deeper water.The results demonstrated plastic responses in clonal characteristics and biomass allocation in H.ovalis across the water depth gradient. | Na-Na Xu Xin Tong Po-Kueug Eric Tsang Hong Deng Xiao-Yong Chen | 2011 | Journal of Plant Ecology2011,4,4: | 3 |
| 6 | Efficient Simulation of Wave Propagation with Implicit Finite Difference Schemes显示文摘Finite difference method is an important methodology in the approximation of waves.In this paper,we will study two implicit finite difference schemes for the simulation of waves.They are the weighted alternating direction implicit(ADI)scheme and the locally one-dimensional(LOD)scheme.The approximation errors,stability conditions,and dispersion relations for both schemes are investigated.Our analysis shows that the LOD implicit scheme has less dispersion error than that of the ADI scheme.Moreover,the unconditional stability for both schemes with arbitrary spatial accuracy is established for the first time.In order to improve computational efficiency,numerical algorithms based on message passing interface(MPI)are implemented.Numerical examples of wave propagation in a three-layer model and a standard complex model are presented.Our analysis and comparisons show that both ADI and LOD schemes are able to efficiently and accurately simulate wave propagation in complex media. | Wensheng Zhang Li Tong Eric T.Chung | 2012 | Numerical Mathematics(Theory,Methods and Applications)2012,5,2: | 2 |

| 14 | Identification of factors associated with sedation tolerance in 5000 patients undergoing outpatient colonoscopy:Canadian tertiary center experience显示文摘AIM To develop a prediction model aimed at identifying patients that may require higher than usual sedation doses during colonoscopy.METHODS A retrospective chart review on 5000 patients who underwent an outpatient colonoscopy at St.Paul's Hospital from 2009 to 2010 was conducted in order to develop a model for identifying patients who will require increased doses of sedatives.Potential predictor variables including age,gender,endoscopy indication,high sedation requirements during previous endoscopies,difficulty of the procedure,bowel preparation quality,interventions,findings as well as current use of benzodiazepines,opioids and alcohol were analyzed.The outcome of study was the use ofhigh dose of sedation agents for the procedure.In particular,the high dose of sedation was defined as fentanyl greater than 50 mcg and midazolam greater than 3 mg.RESULTS Analysis of 5282 patients(mean age 57 ± 12,49% female) was performed.Most common indication for the procedure was screening colonoscopy(57%).Almost half of our patients received doses exceeding Fentanyl 50 mcg and Midazolam 3 mg.Logistic regression models identified the following variables associated with high sedation:Younger age(OR=0.95 95%CI:0.94-0.95;P < 0.0001);abdominal pain(OR=1.45,95%CI:1.08-1.96);P=0.01) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease(OR=1.45,95%CI:1.04-2.03;P=0.02) as indications for the procedure;difficult procedure as defined by gastroenterologist(OR=1.73,95%CI:1.48-2.03;P < 0.0001);past history of abdominal surgery(OR=1.33,95%CI:1.17-1.52;P <0.0001) and previous colonoscopy(OR=1.39,95%CI:1.21-1.60;P=0.0001) and alcohol use(OR=1.26,95%CI:1.03-1.54;P=0.02).Age and gender adjusted analysis yielded inflammatory bowel disease as an indication(OR=3.17,95%CI:1.58-6.37;P=0.002);difficult procedure as defined by an endoscopist(OR=5.13 95%CI:2.97-8.85;P=0.0001) and current use of opioids,benzodiazepines or antidepressants(OR=2.88,95%CI:1.74-4.77;P=0.001) having the highest predictive value of high sedation requirements.Our prediction model using the following pre-procedural variables including age,indication for the procedure,medication/substance use,previous surgeries yielded an area under the curve of 0.76 for Fentanyl ≥ 100 mcg and Midazolam ≥ 3 mg.CONCLUSION Pre-procedural planning is the key in conducting successful,efficient colonoscopy.Logistic regression analysis of 5000 patients who underwent out-patient colonoscopy revealed the following factors associated with increased sedation requirement:Younger age,female gender,difficult endoscopy,specific indications as well as cardiopulmonary complications and current use of opioids/benzodiazepines.Age and gender adjusted analysis yielded similar results.These patients are more likely to need a longer recovery periods post-endoscopy,which could result in additional time and personnel requirements.The final predictive model has good predictive ability for Fentanyl ≥ 100 mcg and Midazolam ≥ 3 mg and fair predictive ability for Fentanyl ≥ 50 mcg and Midazolam ≥ 2 mg.The external validity of this model is planned to be tested in another center. | Alexandra Shingina George Ou Oliver Takach Sigrid Svarta Ricky Kwok Jessica Tong Kieran Donaldson Eric Lam Robert Enns | 2016 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2016,8,20: | 1 |
