| 1 | Impact of Fenton and ozone on oxidation of wastewater containing nitroaromatic compounds显示文摘Fenton and ozone treatment was investigated at laboratory scale for the degradation of aqueous solutions of nitrobenzene (NB). Effects of reactants concentration (O3, H2O2, and Fe(II)), temperature, and pH on NB degradation were monitored. Reaction kinetic of these processes was also assessed. A rapid reaction took place for Fenton process at higher initial concentration of H2O2, higher temperatures, and more acidic conditions (pH 3). Similarly, ozonation reaction exhibited rapid rates for higher ozone dose, higher temperatures, and more basic conditions (pH 11). Complete NB degradation in 65 min was achieved using Fenton process. The conditions of complete elimination of 100 mg/L of initial NB concentration, were 250 mg/L of H2O2 concentration, pH 3, and 10 mg/L of Fe(II) concentration. Under these conditions, 55% organic carbon elimination was achieved. Total organic carbon mineralization was attained in 240 min reaction time by Fenton process with 900 mg/L of H2O2 concentration, and 30 mg/L of Fe(II) concentration. Fenton reaction showed a pseudo-first order kinetic; the reaction rate constant was ranged from 0.0226 to 0.0658 min-1. Complete NB degradation was also achieved for an ozone dose of the order of 2.5 g/L. The ozonation was studied at different ozone doses, different initial pH (7–11) and at different temperatures (15–35°C ). NB ozonation kinetic was represented by a bi-molecular kinetic model which was reduced to pseudo-first order kinetic. The pseudo-first order reaction rate constant was determined to increase at 20°C from 0.004 to 0.020 min-1 as the used ozone increased from 0.4 to 1.9 g/L. | Fares Al Momani Mo’ayyad Shawaqfah Ahmad Shawaqfeh Mohammad Al-Shannag | 2008 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2008,20,6: | 13 |

| 9 | Characteristics, management, and outcome of squamous carcinoma of the conjunctiva in a single tertiary cancer center in Jordan显示文摘● AIM: To evaluate the features and outcome of management of malignant conjunctival squamous tumors in King Hussein Cancer Center(a referral tertiary cancer center in the Middle East).● METHODS: Retrospective case series of 31 eyes for 31 patients with conjunctival squamous neoplasia. Main outcome measures included: age, gender, laterality, tumor location, pathological features, tumor stage, treatment modality, and outcome.● RESULTS: Twenty(65%) patients were males and median age was 58 y. Twenty-two(71%) eyes had the tumor in the nasal quadrant. Tumor invasion to nearby structures was seen in 19(61%) eyes, including the cornea, fornix, eyelid, and orbit in 17(55%), 1(3%), 2(6%), and 3(10%) eyes, respectively. Eye salvage was achieved by surgical excision with cryotherapy followed by topical chemotherapy in 28(90%) eyes, and orbital exenteration was necessary in 3(10%) eyes due to orbital tumor invasion. Tumor recurrence was seen in 7(23%) eyes, and the significant predictive factors for recurrence were tumor extension onto the nearby structures(P=0.04), tumor invasiveness(P=0.038), and tumor TNM stage(P=0.031). No significant change in visual acuity was seen, and disease related mortality was 6%(2 patients, both had orbital invasion by invasive squamous carcinoma).● CONCLUSION: Conjunctival squamous carcinoma is more common in males. Advanced American Joint Committee on Cancer(AJCC) T-stage, tumor local invasion, more pathologically aggressive tumors, and surgical treatment alone(without adjuvant therapy) are associated with higher risk for recurrence, and orbital invasion is the most important poor prognostic factor for metastasis and death. Treatment strategies should be affected by tumor characteristics at presentation. | Ata Rajeh Fareed Barakat Samer Khurma Khaleel Al Rawashdeh Osama H.Ababneh Ibrahim AlNawaiseh Mustafa Mehyar Ghadeer Abdeen Imad Jaradat Mona Mohammad Yacoub A.Yousef | 2018 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2018,11,7: | 1 |

| 14 | Optimum alternate material selection methodology for an aircraft skin显示文摘Weight penalty has been a challenge for design engineers of aerospace vehicles.Today’s high-efficiency combat aircraft undergoes intense stress and strain during flying missions, which require stronger and stiffer materials to retain structural integrity.Though metallic materials have been successfully used for the construction of aircraft structures and components, metals still have a low strength-to-weight ratio. This paper aims to develop an alternate optimised material selection methodology to replace the metallic skin of a medium-sized military aircraft. The search for the optimum material will result in reduced aircraft weight which will be benefitted by extra payload on the aircraft. The selection methodology is comprised of finding design pressure limits on the aircraft skin, and comparison of properties(strength, elastic modulus, shear modulus, etc.)and performance(safety factor, deflection, and stress)of the existing metallic skin with alternate optimised material. The comparison was made under aerodynamic pressure, bending force, and twisting moment.Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer/Epoxy(CFRP)Uni-Directional(UD)prepreg(elastic modolus is 209 GPa)was selected as an alternate optimum material to replace the aluminium alloy skin of the aircraft studied. The selected alternate optimum material resulted in the reduction of aircraft skin weight by 30%. | Fareed AHMAD Mohammed Al AWADH Sahar NOOR | 2023 | Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2023,36,7: | 0 |
| 15 | Tocilizumab in severe COVID-19-A randomized,double-blind,placebo-controlled trial显示文摘Background:The therapeutic effectiveness of interleukin-6 receptor inhibitor in critically ill hospitalized patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is uncertain. Methods:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the outcome as recovery or death of tocilizumab for severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2)infection,we conducted a randomized,double-blinded,placebo-controlled phase 2 trial in critically ill COVID-19 adult patients. The patients were randomly assigned in a 4:1 ratio to receive standard medical treatment plus the recommended dose of either tocilizumab or the placebo drug.Randomization was stratified. The primary outcome was the recovery or death after administration of tocilizumab or a placebo drug. The secondary outcomes were clinical recovery or worsening of the patients’symptoms and inflammatory markers and discharge from the hospital. Results:Of 190 patients included in this study,152 received tocilizumab, and 38 received a placebo. The duration of hospital stay of the interventional group was 12.9±9.2,while the placebo group had a more extended hospital stay(15.6±8.8).The mortality ratio for the primary outcome,ie,mortality or recovery in the tocilizumab group was 17.8%;p=0.58 by log-rank test). The mortality ratio in the placebo group was 76.3%;p=0.32 by log-rank test). The inflammatory markers in the tocilizumab group significantly declined by day 16 compared to the placebo group. Conclusions:The use of tocilizumab was associated with decreased mortality, earlier improvement of inflamma-tory markers, and reduced hospital stay in patients with severe COVID-19. | Muhammad Irfan Malik Sardar Al Fareed Zafar Fabiha Qayyum Muna Malik Muhammad Sohaib Asghar Muhammad Junaid Tahir Ammarah Arshad Fatima Khalil Hafiza Shafia Naz Mudassar Aslam Jodat Saleem Abdul Aziz Mustafa Usman Azhar Muhammad Naqash Zohaib Yousaf | 2022 | Infectious Medicine2022,1,2: | 0 |
