2Design and Implementation of a 3D Ocean Virtual Reality and Visualization Engine显示文摘In this study,a 3D virtual reality and visualization engine for rendering the ocean,named VV-Ocean,is designed for marine applications.The design goals of VV-Ocean aim at high fidelity simulation of ocean environment,visualization of massive and multidimensional marine data,and imitation of marine lives.VV-Ocean is composed of five modules,i.e.memory management module,resources management module,scene management module,rendering process management module and interaction management module.There are three core functions in VV-Ocean:reconstructing vivid virtual ocean scenes,visualizing real data dynamically in real time,imitating and simulating marine lives intuitively.Based on VV-Ocean,we establish a sea-land integration platform which can reproduce drifting and diffusion processes of oil spilling from sea bottom to surface.Environment factors such as ocean current and wind field have been considered in this simulation.On this platform oil spilling process can be abstracted as movements of abundant oil particles.The result shows that oil particles blend with water well and the platform meets the requirement for real-time and interactive rendering.VV-Ocean can be widely used in ocean applications such as demonstrating marine operations,facilitating maritime communications,developing ocean games,reducing marine hazards,forecasting the weather over oceans,serving marine tourism,and so on.Finally,further technological improvements of VV-Ocean are discussed.CHEN Ge LI Bo TIAN Fenglin JI Pengbo LI Wenqing 2012Journal of Ocean University of China2012,11,4:10

5Archean-Paleoproterozoic Lithospheric Mantle at the Northern Margin of the North China Craton Represented by Tectonically Exhumed Peridotites显示文摘Tectonically emplaced peridotites from North Hebei Province, North China Craton, have retained an original harzburgite mineral assemblage of olivine(54%–58%) + orthopyroxene(40%–46%)+minor clinopyroxene(<1%)+spinel. Samples with boninite-like chemical compositions also coexist with these peridotites. The spinels within the peridotites have high-Al end-members with Al_2O_3 content of 30 wt % –50 wt %, typical of mantle spinels. When compared with experimentally determined melt extraction trajectories, the harzburgites display a high degree of melting and enrichment of SiO_2, which is typical of cratonic mantle peridotites. The peridotites display variably enriched light rare earth elements(REEs), relatively depleted middle REEs and weakly fractionated heavy REEs, which suggest a melt extraction of over 25% in the spinel stability field. The occurrence of arc-and SSZ-type chromian spinels in the peridotites suggests that melt extraction and metasomatism occurred mostly in a subduction-related setting. This is also supported by the geochemical data of the coexisting boninite-like samples. The peridotites have ^(187)Os/^(188)Os ratios ranging from 0.113–0.122, which is typical of cratonic lithospheric mantle. These ^(187)Os/^(188)Os ratios yield model melt extraction ages(TRD) ranging from 981 Ma to 2054 Ma, which may represent the minimum estimation of the melt extraction age. The Al_2O_3-^(187)Os/^(188)Os-proxy isochron ages of 2.4 Ga–2.7 Ga suggest a mantle melt depletion age between the Late Achaean and Early Paleoproterozoic. 6Transfer function-based 2D/3D interactive spatiotemporal visualizations of mesoscale eddies显示文摘In this paper,we present a transfer function-based approach to developing an interactive visualization algorithm for ocean mesoscale eddies.Spatiotemporal coherence and viewport coherence are achieved.Evenly spaced streamlines are only integrated for visible portions of the datasets that maintain a relatively stable visual pattern resolution.The interactive transfer function is introduced to extract 2D and 3D eddy features,such as the Okubo-Weiss parameter,from background ocean currents,and a highly efficient GPU-based framework with an outputsensitive performance is utilized.Using the high-resolution 2D/3D ocean current datasets Maps of Sea Level Anomalies(MSLA)and Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model(HYCOM),the feasibility and efficiency of our framework are demonstrated.Fenglin Tian Lingqi Cheng Ge Chen 2020International Journal of Digital Earth2020,13,5:4
7A Real-Time Photo-Realistic Rendering Algorithm of Ocean Color Based on Bio-Optical Model显示文摘A real-time photo-realistic rendering algorithm of ocean color is introduced in the paper, which considers the impact of ocean bio-optical model. The ocean bio-optical model mainly involves the phytoplankton, colored dissolved organic material(CDOM), inorganic suspended particle, etc., which have different contributions to absorption and scattering of light. We decompose the emergent light of the ocean surface into the reflected light from the sun and the sky, and the subsurface scattering light. We establish an ocean surface transmission model based on ocean bidirectional reflectance distribution function(BRDF) and the Fresnel law, and this model's outputs would be the incident light parameters of subsurface scattering. Using ocean subsurface scattering algorithm combined with bio-optical model, we compute the scattering light emergent radiation in different directions. Then, we blend the reflection of sunlight and sky light to implement the real-time ocean color rendering in graphics processing unit(GPU). 8Three-dimensional mesoscale eddy identification and tracking algorithm based on pressure anomalies Liming显示文摘The Kuroshio Extension(KE)is one of the most eddy-energetic regions in the global ocean.However,most mesoscale eddy studies in the region are focused on surface eddies and the structure and characteristics of three-dimensional(3-D)eddies require additional research.In this study,we proposed a 3-D eddy identification and tracking algorithm based on pressure anomalies,similar to sea level anomalies(SLAs)for surface eddy identification.We applied this scheme to a 5-year(2008-2012)high-resolution numerical product to develop a 3-D eddy dataset in the KE.The reliability of the numerical product was verified by the 5-year temperature/salinity hydrological characteristics and surface eddy distribution.According to the 3-D eddy tracking dataset,the number of eddies decreased dramatically as the eddy existence-time increased and more anticyclonic eddies(AEs)had an existence-time longer than 1 week than cyclonic eddies(CEs).We presented daily variations in the 3-D structure of two 3-D eddy-tracking trajectories that exhibit a certain jump in depth and a shift toward the west and equator.In addition to the bowl,lens,and cone eddies that have been discovered by previous researchers,we found that there is a cylindrical eddy,and its eddy radii are almost consistent across all layers.CEs cause significant negative temperature anomalies,“negative-positive”salinity anomalies,and sinking current fields in the KE region,while AEs cause positive temperature anomalies,“positive-negative”salinity anomalies,and upward current fields.The four types of eddies have different effects on the temperature/salinity anomalies and current field distribution which are related to their structure.Liming YUAN Fenglin TIAN Suqin XU Chun ZHOU Jie CHEN 2021Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,6:2

12Tertiary lymphoid structure patterns predicted anti-PD1 therapeutic responses in gastric cancer显示文摘Objective:Recent studies have highlighted the distinct value of tertiary lymphoid structure(TLS)for immunotherapeutic response prediction.However,it remains unclear whether TLS could play such roles in gastric cancer(GC).Methods:In this study,tumor tissue slices from 292 GC patients from Zhongshan Hospital were firstly reviewed to explore the correlation between TLS and clinical characteristics.Subsequently,we curated 38 reported genes that may function as triggers of TLS and performed consensus molecular subtyping in public RNA-seq datasets to determine TLS patterns in GC.Based on the differentially expressed genes acquired from two TLS patterns,we quantified TLS-related genes on the principal component analysis(PCA)algorithm to develop TLS score.A Zhongshan immunotherapy cohort including 13 patients who received programmed cell death 1(PD1)blockade therapy was established to conduct RNA sequencing analysis and multiplex immunohistochemistry(mIHC)tests using formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded(FFPE)tissues.The corresponding TLS score and immune cell counts were further compared based on therapeutic response variations.Results:Mature TLS was revealed as an independent prognostic factor in 292 GC patients.Patients with higher TLS score was characterized by prolonged survival time and superior response to immunotherapy.TLS score was correlated with immunotherapy-related characters,such as microsatellite instability(MSI)and tumor mutation burden(TMB).In addition,RNA-seq data analysis in the Zhongshan immunotherapy cohort indicated that a higher TLS score was correlated with a superior response to PD1 blockade therapy.mIHC tests also revealed that PD1+CD8+T cell counts were significantly increased in the high-TLS score group.Conclusions:This study highlighted that TLS was significantly associated with immune landscape diversity and complexity.Quantitatively evaluating TLS patterns of individual tumor will strengthen our understanding of TME characteristics and promote more effective immunotherapy strategies.Quan Jiang Chenyu Tian Hao Wu Lingqiang Min Hao Chen Lingli Chen Fenglin Liu Yihong Sun 2022Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2022,34,4:1
13GPU Accelerated Marine Data Visualization Method显示文摘The study of marine data visualization is of great value. Marine data, due to its large scale, random variation and multiresolution in nature, are hard to be visualized and analyzed. Nowadays, constructing an ocean model and visualizing model results have become some of the most important research topics of ‘Digital Ocean'. In this paper, a spherical ray casting method is developed to improve the traditional ray-casting algorithm and to make efficient use of GPUs. Aiming at the ocean current data, a 3D view-dependent line integral convolution method is used, in which the spatial frequency is adapted according to the distance from a camera. The study is based on a 3D virtual reality and visualization engine, namely the VV-Ocean. Some interactive operations are also provided to highlight the interesting structures and the characteristics of volumetric data. Finally, the marine data gathered in the East China Sea are displayed and analyzed. 14A chloride efflux transporter,BIG RICE GRAIN 1,is involved in mediating grain size and salt tolerance in rice显示文摘Grain size is determined by the size and number of cells in the grain.The regulation of grain size is crucial for improving crop yield;however,the genes and molecular mechanisms that control grain size remain elusive.Here,we report that a member of the detoxification efflux carrier/Multidrug and Toxic Compound Extrusion(DTX/MATE)family transporters,BIG RICE GRAIN 1(BIRG1),negatively influences grain size in rice(Oryza sativa L.).BIRG1 is highly expressed in reproductive organs and roots.In birg1 grain,the outer parenchyma layer cells of spikelet hulls are larger than in wild-type(WT)grains,but the cell number is unaltered.When expressed in Xenopus laevis oocytes,BIRG1 exhibits chloride efflux activity.Consistent with this role of BIRG1,the birg1 mutant shows reduced tolerance to salt stress at a toxic chloride level.Moreover,grains from birg1 plants contain a higher level of chloride than those of WT plants when grown under normal paddy field conditions,and the roots of birg1 accumulate more chloride than those of WT under saline conditions.Collectively,the data suggest that BIRG1 in rice functions as a chloride efflux transporter that is involved in mediating grain size and salt tolerance by controlling chloride homeostasis.Zhijie Ren Fenglin Bai Jingwen Xu Li Wang Xiaohan Wang Qian Zhang Changxin Feng Qi Niu Liying Zhang Jiali Song Fang Bao Liangyu Liu Yikun He Ligeng Ma Wang Tian Congcong Hou Legong Li 2021Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2021,63,12:1
15The geometry of mesoscale eddies in the South China Sea: characteristics and implications显示文摘The symmetrical circular shape of mesoscale eddies has been widely used in their scientific researches.Recently,an elliptical average eddy shape has been confirmed for eddies in the global ocean using multi-satellite altimeter data.As a regional extension of a previous study on the geometry of global eddies,a mean eddy shape in the South China Sea(SCS)has been derived by averaging a large number of orientational eddy boundaries.The mean shape is approximately a mathematic ellipse with a semimajor axis of 101.3 km and a semiminor axis of 61.3 km.Its size is larger than the global one.The principal eddy orientation in the SCS is 74°/254°(nearly northeast-southwest),different from that of eddies in the global ocean(171°/351°,nearly east–west).Composite analyses of chlorophyll(CHL)concentrations and sea surface temperature anomalies(SSTA)indicate a dipole structure for circular eddies in the non-rotated coordinate system.While a monopole structure for elliptical eddies in the eddy-centric coordinate system is obtained.The results demonstrate that the elliptical shape of eddies affects oceanographical variables.The findings provide a new approach for exploring the role of air–sea interactions on oceanic eddies.Guiyan Han Fenglin Tian Chunyong Ma Ge Chen 2021International Journal of Digital Earth2021,14,4:1
16Lagrangian eddies in the Northwestern Pacifi c Ocean显示文摘The Lagrangian eddies in the western Pacifi c Ocean are identifi ed and analysed based on Maps of Sea Level Anomaly(MSLA)data from 1998 to 2018.By calculating the Lagrangian eddy advected by the AVISO velocity fi eld,we analyzed the variations in Lagrangian eddies and the average transport eff ects on diff erent time scales.By introducing the Niño coeffi cient,the lag response of the Lagrangian eddy to El Niño is found.These data are helpful to further explore the role of mesoscale eddies in ocean energy transfer.Through normalized chlorophyll data,we observed chlorophyll aggregation and hole eff ects caused by Lagrangian eddies.These fi ndings demonstrate the important role of Lagrangian eddies in material transport.The transportation volume of the Lagrangian eddy is calculated quantitatively,and several major transport routes have been identifi ed,which helps us to more accurately and objectively estimate the transport capacity of Lagrangian eddies in the western Pacifi c Ocean.Qiu HE Fenglin TIAN Xiaokun YANG Ge CHEN 2022Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2022,40,1:1
17Geographical Information Visualization on a Panoramic Sphere in an Immersive Environment显示文摘In this paper,we propose a novel approach to visualizing global geographical information:a panoramic sphere in an immersive environment.The whole geographical surface can be observed through the rotating of heads as the viewpoint of the panoramic sphere is inside the sphere.We compared three approaches to visualizing the earth for rendering the geographical information in a virtual reality environment.On the tasks of terrestrial and marine geographical information,we compare the visualization effects on a)a globe,b)a flat map and c)a panoramic sphere.Terrestrial geographical information tasks include the area comparison and direction determination.Marine geographical information tasks contain the visualization of sea surface temperature and sea surface currents.For terrestrial geographical information tasks,the experimental results show that the panoramic sphere outperforms the globe and the flat map,with a higher average accuracy and a shorter time.On marine geographical information task,the panoramic sphere visualization is also superior to the flat map and the globe in an immersive environment for the sea surface temperature data and the sea surface current fields.In all three visualization experiments,the panoramic sphere is most preferred by the participants,particularly for global,transcontinental and transoceanic needs.MA Ying TIAN Fenglin LIU Wen TANG Moran LI Jinyu CHEN Ge 2023Journal of Ocean University of China2023,22,4:0
18Thermal shock damage behavior of CVD ZnS by oxygen propane flame: A numerical and experimental study显示文摘Chemical vapor deposition zinc sulfide(CVD ZnS) is widely used as an infrared window material to transmit infrared signals, keep the aerodynamic shape and protect its imaging system,which often suffers high temperature and complicated thermal stresses. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the thermal shock damage of CVD ZnS through a finite element method and oxygen propane flame experiments. The finite element model is developed to simulate the temperature and thermal stress fields by an oxygen propane flame. Then, the thermal shock experiments are performed to investigate the thermal shock damage behavior. The results show that the temperature rising rate of the shock surface is fast during the initial heating stage resulting in high thermal stress.
