| 1 | Role of the endothelium in inflammatory bowel diseases显示文摘Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD) are a complex group of diseases involving alterations in mucosal immunity and gastrointestinal physiology during both initiation and progressive phases of the disease.At the core of these alterations are endothelial cells,whose continual adjustments in structure and function coordinate vascular supply,immune cell emigration,and regulation of the tissue environment.Expansion of the endothelium in IBD(angiogenesis),mediated by inflammatory growth factors,cytokines and chemokines,is a hallmark of active gut disease and is closely related to disease severity.The endothelium in newly formed or inflamed vessels differs from that in normal vessels in the production of and response to inflammatory cytokines,growth factors,and adhesion molecules,altering coagulant capacity,barrier function and blood cell recruitment in injury.This review examines the roles of the endothelium in the initiation and propagation of IBD pathology and distinctive features of the intestinal endothelium contributing to these conditions. | Walter E Cromer J Michael Mathis Daniel N Granger Ganta V Chaitanya J Steven Alexander | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,5: | 10 |
| 2 | BK nephropathy in the native kidneys of patients with organ transplants: Clinical spectrum of BK infection显示文摘Nephropathy secondary to BK virus, a member of the Papoviridae family of viruses, has been recognized for some time as an important cause of allograft dysfunction in renal transplant recipients. In recent times, BK nephropathy(BKN) of the native kidneys has being increasingly recognized as a cause of chronic kidney disease in patients with solid organ transplants, bone marrow transplants and in patients with other clinical entities associated with immunosuppression. In such patients renal dysfunction is often attributed to other factors including nephrotoxicity of medications used to prevent rejection of the transplanted organs. Renal biopsy is required for the diagnosis of BKN. Quantitation of the BK viral load in blood and urine are surrogate diagnostic methods. The treatment of BKN is based on reduction of the immunosuppressive medications. Several compounds have shown antiviral activity, but have not consistently shown to have beneficial effects in BKN. In addition to BKN, BK viral infection can cause severe urinary bladder cystitis, ureteritis and urinary tract obstruction as well as manifestations in other organ systems including the central nervous system, the respiratory system, the gastrointestinal system and the hematopoietic system. BK viral infection has also been implicated in tumorigenesis. The spectrum of clinical manifestations from BK infection and infection from other members of the Papoviridae family is widening. | 3 | Prolonged hypernatremia triggered by hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state with coma: A case report显示文摘A man with past lithium use for more than 15 years, but off lithium for two years and not carrying the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus or nephrogenic diabetes insipidus(NDI), presented with coma and hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state(HHS). Following correction of HHS, he developed persistent hypernatremia accompanied by large volumes of urine with low osmolality and no response to desmopressin injections. Urine osmolality remained < 300 m Osm/kg after injection of vasopressin. Improvement in serum sodium concentration followed the intake of large volumes of water plus administration of amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide. Severe hyperglycemia may trigger symptomatic lithium-induced NDI years after cessation of lithium therapy. | 4 | Nanofat: A therapeutic paradigm in regenerative medicine显示文摘Adipose tissue is a compact and well-organized tissue containing a heterogeneous cellular population of progenitor cells,including mesenchymal stromal cells.Due to its availability and accessibility,adipose tissue is considered a“stem cell depot.”Adipose tissue products possess anti-inflammatory,anti-fibrotic,antiapoptotic,and immunomodulatory effects.Nanofat,being a compact bundle of stem cells with regenerative and tissue remodeling potential,has potential in translational and regenerative medicine.Considering the wide range of applicability of its reconstructive and regenerative potential,the applications of nanofat can be used in various disciplines.Nanofat behaves on the line of adipose tissuederived mesenchymal stromal cells.At the site of injury,these stromal cells initiate a site-specific reparative response comprised of remodeling of the extracellular matrix,enhanced and sustained angiogenesis,and immune system modulation.These properties of stromal cells provide a platform for the usage of regenerative medicine principles in curbing various diseases.Details about nanofat,including various preparation methods,characterization,delivery methods,evidence on practical applications,and ethical concerns are included in this review.However,appropriate guidelines and preparation protocols for its optimal use in a wide range of clinical applications have yet to be standardized. | Madhan Jeyaraman Sathish Muthu Shilpa Sharma Charan Ganta Rajni Ranjan Saurabh Kumar Jha | 2021 | World Journal of Stem Cells2021,13,11: | 2 |
