| 1 | Clinical characteristics and surgical treatment of schwannomas of the esophagus and stomach: A case series and systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal schwannomas are slow-growing benign mesenchymal neoplasms that originate from Schwann cells of the nerve sheath of Auerbach′s plexus or less frequently from Meissner′s plexus.The main differential diagnosis of gastric schwannomas are the gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs),which are classified by their immunohistochemistry.The treatment of choice for gastric schwannomas is surgery where laparoscopy plays an important role.Wedge resection,subtotal or total gastrectomy can be done.In its counterpart,esophageal schwannomas are benign tumors of the esophagus that are very uncommon since they comprise less than 2%of all esophageal tumors.The main differential diagnosis is the leiomyoma which corresponds to the most common benign esophageal tumor,followed by GIST.The treatment consists on tumoral enucleation or esophagectomy.AIM To review the available literature about gastrointestinal schwannomas;especially lesions from de stomach and esophagus,including diagnosis,treatment,and follow up,as well as,reporting our institutional experience.METHODS A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes guidelines.The following databases were used for reviewing process:Pub Med,Ovid,MEDLINE,and Scopus.Only English language manuscripts were included.All gastrointestinal schwannomas specifically located in the esophagus and stomach were included.Cases that did not report long-term follow-up were excluded.RESULTS Gastric localization showed a higher prevalence in both,the literature review and our institution:94.95%(n=317)and 83%(n=5)respectively.With a follow-up with disease-free survival greater than 36 mo in most cases:62.01%(n=80)vs66.66%(n=4).In both groups,the median size was>4.1 cm.Surgical treatment is curative in most cases CONCLUSION Schwannoma must be taken into account in the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors.It has a good prognosis,and most are benign.A disease-free survival of more than 36 mo can be achieved by surgery. | Jesús Morales-Maza Francisco Ulises Pastor-Sifuentes Germán E Sánchez-Morales Emilio Sanchez-Garcia Ramos Oscar Santes Uriel Clemente-Gutiérrez Adriana Simoneta Pimienta-Ibarra Heriberto Medina-Franco | 2019 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2019,11,9: | 7 |

| 17 | Insights into myelin dysfunction in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder显示文摘Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are disabling psychiatric disorders with a worldwide prevalence of approximately 1%.Both disorders present chronic and deteriorating prognoses that impose a large burden,not only on patients but also on society and health systems.These mental illnesses share several clinical and neurobiological traits;of these traits,oligodendroglial dysfunction and alterations to white matter(WM)tracts could underlie the disconnection between brain regions related to their symptomatic domains.WM is mainly composed of heavily myelinated axons and glial cells.Myelin internodes are discrete axon-wrapping membrane sheaths formed by oligodendrocyte processes.Myelin ensheathment allows fast and efficient conduction of nerve impulses through the nodes of Ranvier,improving the overall function of neuronal circuits.Rapid and precisely synchronized nerve impulse conduction through fibers that connect distant brain structures is crucial for higher-level functions,such as cognition,memory,mood,and language.Several cellular and subcellular anomalies related to myelin and oligodendrocytes have been found in postmortem samples from patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder,and neuroimaging techniques have revealed consistent alterations at the macroscale connectomic level in both disorders.In this work,evidence regarding these multilevel alterations in oligodendrocytes and myelinated tracts is discussed,and the involvement of proteins in key functions of the oligodendroglial lineage,such as oligodendrogenesis and myelination,is highlighted.The molecular components of the axo-myelin unit could be important targets for novel therapeutic approaches to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. | Marcela Valdés-Tovar Alejandra Monserrat Rodríguez-Ramírez Leslye Rodríguez-Cárdenas Carlo E Sotelo-Ramírez Beatriz Camarena Marco Antonio Sanabrais-Jiménez Héctor Solís-Chagoyán Jesús Argueta Germán Octavio López-Riquelme | 2022 | World Journal of Psychiatry2022,12,2: | 1 |
| 18 | Intestinal Ca2+ absorption revisited: A molecular and clinical approach显示文摘Ca2+has an important role in the maintenance of the skeleton and is involved in the main physiological processes.Its homeostasis is controlled by the intestine,kidney,bone and parathyroid glands.The intestinal Ca2+absorption occurs mainly via the paracellular and the transcellular pathways.The proteins involved in both ways are regulated by calcitriol and other hormones as well as dietary factors.Fibroblast growth factor 23(FGF-23)is a strong antagonist of vitamin D action.Part of the intestinal Ca2+movement seems to be vitamin D independent.Intestinal Ca2+absorption changes according to different physiological conditions.It is promoted under high Ca2+demands such as growth,pregnancy,lactation,dietary Ca2+deficiency and high physical activity.In contrast,the intestinal Ca2+transport decreases with aging.Oxidative stress inhibits the intestinal Ca2+absorption whereas the antioxidants counteract the effects of prooxidants leading to the normalization of this physiological process.Several pathologies such as celiac disease,inflammatory bowel diseases,Turner syndrome and others occur with inhibition of intestinal Ca2+absorption,some hypercalciurias show Ca2+hyperabsorption,most of these alterations are related to the vitamin D endocrine system.Further research work should be accomplished in order not only to know more molecular details but also to detect possible therapeutic targets to ameliorate or avoid the consequences of altered intestinal Ca2+absorption. | Vanessa A Areco Romina Kohan Germán Talamoni Nori G Tolosa de Talamoni María E Peralta López | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,24: | 0 |
| 19 | Time windows for postnatal changes in morphology and membrane excitability of genioglossal and oculomotor motoneurons显示文摘Time windows for postnatal changes in morphology and membrane excitability of genioglossal(GG) and oculomotor(OCM) motoneurons(MNs) are yet to be fully described. Analysis of data on brain slices in vitro of the 2 populations of MNs point to a well-defined developmental program that progresses with common age-related changes characterized by:(1) increase of dendritic surface along with length and reshaping of dendritic tree complexity;(2) disappearance of gap junctions early in development;(3) decrease of membrane passive properties, such as input resistance and time constant, together with an increase in the number of cells displaying sag, and modifications in rheobase;(4) action potential shortening and afterhyperpolarization; and(5) an increase in gain and maximum firing frequency. These modifications take place at different time windows for each motoneuronal population. In GG MNs, active membrane properties change mainly during the first postnatal week, passive membrane properties in the second week, and dendritic increasing length and size in the third week of development. In OCM MNs, changes in passive membrane properties and growth of dendritic size take place during the first postnatal week, while active membrane properties and rheobase change during the second and third weeks of development. The sequential order of changes is inverted between active and passive membrane properties, and growth in size does not temporally coincide for both motoneuron populations.
