1A new oral formulation for the release of sodium butyrate in the ileo-cecal region and colon显示文摘AIM: To develop a new formulation with hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose and Shellac coating for extended and selective delivery of butyrate in the ileo-caecal region and colon. METHODS: One-gram sodium butyrate coated tablets containing 13C-butyrate were orally administered to 12 healthy subjects and 12 Crohn's disease patients and the rate of 13C-butyrate absorption was evaluated by 13CO2 breath test analysis for eight hours. Tauroursodeoxycholic acid (500 mg) was co-administered as a biomarker of oro-ileal transit time to determine also the site of release and absorption of butyrate by the time of its serum maximum concentration. RESULTS: The coated formulation delayed the 13C-butyrate release by 2-3 h with respect to the uncoated tablets. Sodium butyrate was delivered in the intestine of all subjects and a more variable transit time was found in Crohn's disease patients than in healthy subjects. The variability of the peak 13CO2 in the kinetic release of butyrate was explained by the inter-subject variability in transit time. However, the coating chosen ensured an efficient release of the active compound even in patients with a short transit time. CONCLUSION: Simultaneous evaluation of breath 13CO2 and tauroursodeoxycholic acid concentration- time curves has shown that the new oral formulation consistently releases sodium butyrate in the ileo-cecal region and colon both in healthy subjects and Crohn's disease patients with variable intestinal transit time. This formulation may be of therapeutic value in inflammatory bowel disease patients due to the appropriate release of the active compound.Aldo Roda Patrizia Simoni Maria Magliulo Paolo Nanni Mario Baraldini Giulia Roda Enrico Roda 2007World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,7:8
2Digital literacy as a potential barrier to implementation of cardiology tele-visits after COVID-19 pandemic: the INFO-COVID survey显示文摘BACKGROUND During the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of telemedicine has represented a new potential option for outpatient care. The aim of our study was to evaluate digital literacy among cardiology outpatients.METHODS From March to June 2020,a survey on telehealth among cardiology outpatients was performed.Digital literacy was investigated through six main domains:age;sex;educational level;internet access;availability of internet sources;knowledge and use of teleconference software programs.RESULTS The study included 1067 patients, median age 70 years,41.3%females.The majority of the patients(58.0%)had a secondary school degree, but among patients aged≥75 years old the most represented educational level was primary school or none.Overall, for internet access, there was a splitting between'never'(42.1%)and'every day'(41.0%),while only 2.7%answered'at least 1/month'and 14.2%'at least 1/week'.In the total population, the most used devices for internet access were smartphones(59.0%),and WhatsApp represented the most used app(57.3%).Internet users were younger compared to non-internet users(63 vs.78 years old, respectively)and with a higher educational level.Age and educational level were associated with nonuse of internet(age-per 10-year increase odds ratio(OR)=3.07,95%CI:2.54-3.71,secondary school OR=0.18,95%CI:0.12-0.26,university OR=0.05,95%CI:0.02-0.10).CONCLUSIONS Telemedicine represents an appealing option to implement medical practice, and for its development it is important to address the gaps in patients’digital skills, with age and educational level being key factors in this setting.Giuseppe Boriani Anna Maisano Niccolo Bonini Alessandro Albini Jacopo Francesco Imberti Andrea Venturelli Matteo Menozzi Valentina Ziveri Vernizia Morgante Giovanni Camaioni Matteo Passiatore Gerardo De Mitri Giulia Nanni Denise Girolami Riccardo Fontanesi Valerio Siena Daria Sgreccia Vincenzo Livio Malavasi Anna Chiara Valenti Marco Vitolo 2021Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2021,18,9:0
3Bipolar disorder preceding the onset of multiple sclerosis显示文摘Multiple sclerosis(MS)is the most common inflammatory demyelinating brain disease. The occurrence of psychiatric disorders, especially for major depression,in the course of MS is high.Reports concerning bipolar disorder(BD)remain rather scarce although early descriptions were found in the old neurological literature. The purpose of this article is to provide a critical review of the epidemiology, comorbidity, and treatment findings regarding BD preceding the onset of MS.Ciro Marangoni Maria Giulia Nanni Luigi Grassi Gianni LFaedda 2015Neuroimmunology and Neuroinflammation2015,2,1:0
