| 1 | Ameliorative effect of alkaloid extract of Cyclea peltata(Poir.) Hook.f.& Thoms.roots(ACP) on APAP/CC1_4 induced liver toxicity in Wistar rats and in vitro free radical scavenging property显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties of alkaloid extract of Cyclea peltata(C.peltata) against paracetamol/carbon tetra chloride induced liver damage in Wistar rats. Methods:In viro paracetamol/carbon tetrachloride induced liver damage in Wistar rats,in vitro free radical scavenging studies,HPTLC estimation of letrandrine and direct analysis in real timemass spectrometry of alkaloid extract of C.peltata were used for the validation. Results:The results showed that pretreatment with alkaloid extract of C.peltata caused significant reduction of serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase, serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, serum alkaline phosphatase, serum cholesterol, liver malondialdehyde levels. The reduced glutathione, catalase, superoxide dismutase levels in liver were increased with alkaloid extract of C.peltata treatment. These results were almost comparable to silymarin and normal control.Histopathological studies also substantiated the biochemical findings. The in vitro hydroxyl, superoxide and DPPH scavenging study of alkaloid extract of C. peltata showed significant free radical scavenging property. Conclusions:The hepatoprotective property of alkaloid extract of C.peltata against paracetamol/carbon tetrachloride may be due the synergistic action of alkaloids especially tetrandrine, fangchinoline through free radical scavenging and thus preventing oxidative stress. | Varghese Jancy Shine Panikamparambil Gopalakrishnan Latha Somasckharan Nair Rajam Suja Gangadharan Indira Anuja Gopan Raj Sreedharan Nair Rajasekharan | 2014 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2014,4,2: | 2 |

| 9 | Characterization of coal water slurry prepared for PRB coal显示文摘Powder River Basin(PRB)coal, which accounts for over 40%of the coal consumed for power generation in the United States, was investigated for preparation of coal water slurry(CWS).The static stability and rheology of the CWS were characterized as a function of loading. The coal loading was varied from 30%to 50%and both ionic(sodium polystyrene sulphonate(PSS))and nonionic(Triton X-100)surfactants were employed as additives. The addition of PSS to PRB slurries was found to yield poor static stability. On the other hand,Triton X-100 was found to be an effective surfactant, reducing the sedimentation by more than 50%compared to the one without surfactant in 45%CWS.Adding Triton X-100 reduces the viscosity of the CWS for coal loadings of30%and 40%.Although the viscosities for coal loading of 42.5%and 45%are higher when Triton X-100 is added, the static stability is significantly better than for samples without surfactant. The highest coal loading for PRB slurry with acceptable viscosity for pumping is 42.5%. | Fei Yi Akshay Gopan Richard L.Axelbaum | 2014 | 燃料化学学报2014,42,10: | 1 |
| 10 | Mitochondrial hepatopathy: Respiratory chain disorders- ‘breathing in and out of the liver’显示文摘Mitochondria, the powerhouse of a cell, are closely linked to the pathophysiology of various common as well as not so uncommon disorders of the liver and beyond.Evolution supports a prokaryotic descent, and, unsurprisingly, the organelle is worthy of being labeled an organism in itself.Since highly metabolically active organs require a continuous feed of energy, any dysfunction in the structure and function of mitochondria can have variable impact, with the worse end of the spectrum producing catastrophic consequences with a multisystem predisposition.Though categorized a hepatopathy, mitochondrial respiratory chain defects are not limited to the liver in time and space. The liver involvement is also variable in clinical presentation as well as in age of onset, from acute liver failure, cholestasis,or chronic liver disease.Other organs like eye, muscle, central and peripheral nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, hematological, endocrine, and renal systems are also variably involved.Diagnosis hinges on recognition of subtle clinical clues, screening metabolic investigations, evaluation of the extrahepatic involvement, and role of genetics and tissue diagnosis.Treatment is aimed at both circumventing the acute metabolic crisis and long-term management including nutritional rehabilitation. This review lists and discusses the burden of mitochondrial respiratory chain defects, including various settings when to suspect, their evolution with time, including certain specific disorders, their tiered evaluation with diagnostic algorithms, management dilemmas, role of liver transplantation, and the future research tools. | Amrit Gopan Moinak Sen Sarma | 2021 | World Journal of Hepatology2021,13,11: | 0 |
