| 1 | Potential Benefits of Biochar in Agricultural Soils:A Review显示文摘Soil degradation,characterized by declines in nutrient status and simultaneous accumulation of pesticide residues,is a major problem affecting agricultural ecosystems.Previous studies indicate that biochar application to soil has promise as a practical method to alleviate these pressures:increasing crop yield and enhancing pesticide degradation.Here,we review the roles of biochar in both chemical and biological promotion of pesticide degradation and the potential benefits of biochar relating to the efficiency of fertilizer use,availability of nutrients,and nutrient exchange.Biochar typically has a high surface area featuring many functional groups,a high cation exchange capacity,and high stability.Major factors that impact on the nutrient retention characteristics of biochar(e.g.,feedstock,pyrolysis temperature,and application rate) are also discussed herein.Nonetheless,more studies of the long-term impacts on soil properties from biochar addition are still required before it can be possible to accurately quantify the sustainability of this approach to sequester carbon and restore soil function. | DING Yang LIU Yunguo LIU Shaobo HUANG Xixian LI Zhongwu TAN Xiaofei ZENG Guangming ZHOU Lu | 2017 | Pedosphere2017,27,4: | 10 |
| 2 | Evolution of the Yellow River delta, China: Impacts of channel avulsion and progradation显示文摘The evolution of the Yellow River delta is characterized by heavy sediment load,rapid seaward migration,frequent avulsions,and intense anthropogenic disturbances.Evolution of the delta channel following avulsions is very complex and has not yet been thoroughly understood.In the research presented by this paper,we conducted comprehensive analyses of the changes in the water stages,slopes,longitudinal profiles,and the erosion and deposition in the Yellow River delta channels during a time period of over five decades.Results showed that,following each avulsion,channels migrated seaward at decaying rates and the slopes at the downstream of the avulsion point decreased exponentially with time and completed its major adjustment within about four to five years.A generalized geometric model was proposed to describe the changes in the longitudinal profiles of the delta channels.A calculation method to determine the characteristic water stages at the delta was proposed based on the geometric model and the delayed response model for the morphological responses of fluvial rivers to perturbations.Water stages corresponding to a discharge of 3000 m^3/s at Lijin and Xihekou during 1954 through 2012 were calculated by using the proposed method.The proposed method may be used to predict the evolution of the delta channels in response to artificial avulsions at the Yellow River delta in the future. | Shan Zheng Baosheng Wu Kairong Wang Guangming Tan Shasha Han Colin R. | 3 | Adsorption of 17β-estradiol from aqueous solution by raw and direct/pre/post-KOH treated lotus seedpod biochar显示文摘Five biochars derived from lotus seedpod(LSP)were applied to examine and compare the adsorption capacity of 17β-estradiol(E2)from aqueous solution.The effect of KOH activation and the order of activation steps on material properties were discussed.The effect of contact time,initial concentration,p H,ionic strength and humic acid on E2 adsorption were investigated in a batch adsorption process.Experimental results demonstrated that the pseudo second-order model fitted the experimental data best and that adsorption equilibrium was reached within 20 hr.The efficiency of E2 removal increased with increasing E2 concentration and decreased with the increase of ionic strength.E2 adsorption on LSP-derived biochar(BCs)was influenced little by humic acid,and slightly affected by the solution p H when its value ranged from 4.0 to 9.0,but considerably affected at p H 10.0.Low environmental temperature is favorable for E2 adsorption.Chemisorption,π–πinteractions,monolayer adsorption and electrostatic interaction are the possible adsorption mechanisms.Comparative studies indicated that KOH activation and the order of activation steps had significant impacts on the material.Post-treated biochar exhibited better adsorption capacity for E2 than direct treated,pretreated,and raw LSP biochar.Pyrolyzed biochar at higher temperature improved E2 removal.The excellent performance of BCs in removing E2 suggested that BCs have potential in E2 treatment and that the biochar directly treated by KOH would be a good choice for the treatment of E2 in aqueous solution,with its advantages of good efficiency and simple technology. | Ni Liu Yunguo Liu Guangming Zeng Jilai Gong Xiaofei Tan Jun Wen Shaobo Liu Luhua Jiang Meifang Li Zhihong Yin | 2020 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,1: | 4 |

| 5 | Two-dimensional numerical simulation of sediment transport using improved critical shear stress methods显示文摘Research on the critical shear stresses for erosion and deposition for cohesive sediment has attracted substantial attention from both engineering and theoretical viewpoints due to their importance in sediment transport theory.Previous studies have proposed a large number of empirical and semiempirical methods to estimate the critical erosion and deposition shear stress,but comparative analyses and validation of the existing methods are still lacking,leaving questions regarding the applicability ranges of the methods.The current paper evaluates the performance and applicability range of five critical erosion shear stress methods derived from different hypotheses on sediment transport for flume experiments and natural tidal rivers using a process-based model.In addition,the effect of the critical deposition shear stress on sediment transport is investigated.The results show that the different critical erosion shear stress methods yield distinctly different prediction results,and their performance and applicability ranges are discussed by comparing their predictions with measured sediment concentrations from the Shenzhen River and measured geometric changes from the Partheniades'flume experiment.The hiding and exposure effect has been recognized as a crucial factor in the incipient motion of sediment on nonuniform beds.A sensitivity analysis of selective deposition and continuous deposition justifies the existence of the critical deposition shear stress.The current study highlights the performance and applicability ranges of the existing critical shear stress methods in sediment transport modeling for uniform and nonuniform beds,which will enrich understanding of the underlying mechanisms of erosion and deposition of cohesive sediment. | Zhiyong Feng Guangming Tan Junqiang Xia Caiwen Shu Peng Chen Ran Yi | 2020 | International Journal of Sediment Research2020,35,1: | 3 |
| 6 | Growth inhibition and oxidative damage of Microcystis aeruginosa induced by crude extract of Sagittaria trifolia tubers显示文摘Aquatic macrophytes are considered to be promising in controlling harmful cyanobacterial blooms. In this research, an aqueous extract of Sagittaria trifolia tubers was prepared to study its inhibitory effect on Microcystis aeruginosa in the laboratory. Several physiological indices of M. aeruginosa, in response to the environmental stress, were analyzed. Results showed that S. trifolia tuber aqueous extract significantly inhibited the growth of M. aeruginosa in a concentration-dependent way. The highest inhibition rate reached 90% after 6 day treatment. The Chlorophyll-a concentration of M. aeruginosa cells decreased from 343.1 to314.2 μg/L in the treatment group. The activities of superoxide dismutase and peroxidase and the content of reduced glutathione in M. aeruginosa cells initially increased as a response to the oxidative stress posed by S. trifolia tuber aqueous extract, but then decreased as time prolonged. The lipid peroxidation damage of the cyanobacterial cell membranes was reflected by the malondialdehyde level, which was notably higher in the treatment group compared with the controls. | 8 | Change features of time-series climate variables from 1962 to 2016 in Inner Mongolia,China显示文摘Detecting change features of climate variables in arid/semi-arid areas is essential for understanding related climate change patterns and the driving and evolution mechanism between climate and arid/semi-arid ecosystems.This paper takes Inner Mongolia of China,a unique arid/semi-arid ecosystem,as the study area.We first detected trend features of climate variables using the linear trend analysis method and then detected their trend-shift features using the breaks for additive seasonal and trend method based on the time-series of monthly precipitation and monthly mean temperature datasets from 1962 to 2016.We analyzed the different change features of precipitation and temperature on a regional scale and in different ecological zones to discover the spatial heterogeneity of change features.The results showed that Inner Mongolia has become warmer-wetter during the past 54 years.The regional annual mean temperature increased 0.4°C per decade with a change rate of 56.2%.The regional annual precipitation increased 0.07 mm per decade with a slightly change rate of about 1.7%,but the trend was not statistically significant.The warmer trend was contributed by the same positive trend in each season,while the wetter trend was contributed by the negative trend of the summer precipitation and the positive trend of the other three seasons.The regional monthly precipitation series had a trend-shift pattern with a structural breakpoint in the year 1999,while the regional monthly mean temperature series showed an increasing trend without a periodical trend-shift.After the year 2000,the warmer-wetter trend of the climate in Inner Mongolia was accelerated.The late 20th century was a key period,because the acceleration of the wetter trend in some local zones(I and II)and the alleviation of the warmer trend in some local zones(Ⅶ,Ⅷand IX)occurred simultaneously.Moreover,the change features had a strong spatial heterogeneity,the southeastern and southwestern of Inner Mongolia went through a warmer-drier trend compared with the other areas.The spatio-temporal heterogeneity of the climate change features is a necessary background for various types of research,such as regional climate change,the evolution of arid/semi-arid ecosystems,and the interaction mechanisms between climate and arid/semi-arid ecosystems based on earth-system models in Inner Mongolia. | XU Lili YU Guangming ZHANG Wenjie TU Zhenfa TAN Wenxia | 2020 | Journal of Arid Land2020,12,1: | 2 |

The discharge feedforward plus water lever feedback PID controller was adopted. And the performance indicators are introduced to evaluate the control effects of canal operation. Influence on dynamic response process and dynamic performance as well as the control actions of canal system are studied according to the variation of the gate deadband and water level deadband. | 15 | Brain structure in post-traumatic stress disorder A voxel-based morphometry analysis显示文摘This study compared the difference in brain structure in 12 mine disaster survivors with chronic post-traumatic stress disorder,7 cases of improved post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms,and 14 controls who experienced the same mine disaster but did not suffer post-traumatic stress disorder,using the voxel-based morphometry method.The correlation between differences in brain structure and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms was also investigated.Results showed that the gray matter volume was the highest in the trauma control group,followed by the symptoms-improved group,and the lowest in the chronic post-traumatic stress disorder group.Compared with the symptoms-improved group,the gray matter volume in the lingual gyrus of the right occipital lobe was reduced in the chronic post-traumatic stress disorder group.Compared with the trauma control group,the gray matter volume in the right middle occipital gyrus and left middle frontal gyrus was reduced in the symptoms-improved group.Compared with the trauma control group,the gray matter volume in the left superior parietal lobule and right superior frontal gyrus was reduced in the chronic post-traumatic stress disorder group.The gray matter volume in the left superior parietal lobule was significantly positively correlated with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory subscale score in the symptoms-improved group and chronic post-traumatic stress disorder group(r=0.477,P=0.039).Our findings indicate that(1) chronic post-traumatic stress disorder patients have gray matter structural damage in the prefrontal lobe,occipital lobe,and parietal lobe,(2) after post-traumatic stress,the disorder symptoms are improved and gray matter structural damage is reduced,but cannot recover to the trauma-control level,and(3) the superior parietal lobule is possibly associated with chronic post-traumatic stress disorder.Post-traumatic stress disorder patients exhibit gray matter abnormalities. | Liwen Tan Li Zhang Rongfeng Qi Guangming Lu Lingjiang Li Jun Liu Weihui Li | 2013 | Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,26: | 0 |

| 17 | Changes in corneal curvature and aberrations after cataract surgery显示文摘Background:Surgically induced astigmatism(SIA)and corneal high-order aberrations(HOAs)are the two main causes of poor visual quality after cataract surgery.Changes in the parameters of corneal HOAs after cataract surgery and their effects on and relationships with changes in corneal curvature have not yet been reported.This study aimed to explore changes in anterior,posterior and total corneal curvature,astigmatism and HOAs after microincision cataract surgery.Methods:Sixty-one age-related cataract patients(61 eyes)were included in this prospective study.The total,anterior and posterior corneal astigmatism and corneal HOAs were analyzed by anterior segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT)and iTrace before,one day,one week and three months after 2.2 mm temporal microincision coaxial phacoemulsification to evaluate the changes in anterior,posterior and total corneal curvature,astigmatism and corneal HOAs.Results:The mean J0 and J45 values of anterior,posterior and total corneal curvature obtained by ASOCT showed no statistically significant difference between preoperatively and any postoperative followup.SIA occurred on the anterior,posterior and total corneal surfaces and showed no statistically significant difference at any postoperative follow-up.No significant changes in 3rd-order oblique trefoil,vertical coma or 4th-order spherical aberrations were observed after surgery except for a significant increase in horizontal coma at postoperative day 1(POD1).Conclusions:There were no significant changes in corneal curvature after 2.2 mm temporal microincision coaxial phacoemulsification,and the corneal HOAs were not changed significantly except for the increase in horizontal coma at POD1,which may be one of the main reasons of poor visual quality at POD1 in some cataract patients who have good uncorrected or corrected distance vision. | Ye Dai Xiaoting Ruan Wei Wang Xiaoyun Chen Guangming Jin Lanhua Wang Xiaoxun Gu Bo Qu Jianping Liu Xuhua Tan Enen Zhang Jun Fu Lixia Luo Zhenzhen Liu Yizhi Liu | 2022 | Annals of Eye Science2022,,3: | 0 |

| 20 | A heuristic clustering algorithm based on high density-connected partitions显示文摘Clustering data with varying densities and complicated structures is important,while many existing clustering algorithms face difficulties for this problem. The reason is that varying densities and complicated structure make single algorithms perform badly for different parts of data. More intensive parts are assumed to have more information probably,an algorithm clustering from high density part is proposed,which begins from a tiny distance to find the highest density-connected partition and form corresponding super cores,then distance is iteratively increased by a global heuristic method to cluster parts with different densities. Mean of silhouette coefficient indicates the cluster performance. Denoising function is implemented to eliminate influence of noise and outliers. Many challenging experiments indicate that the algorithm has good performance on data with widely varying densities and extremely complex structures. It decides the optimal number of clusters automatically.Background knowledge is not needed and parameters tuning is easy.
