1Fine mapping of locus S-b for F_1 pollen sterility in rice (Oryza sativa L.)显示文摘Hybrid sterility is the main barrier in util-izing the heterosis of subspecies in rice. A knowledge of the underlying molecular mechanism of the hybrid sterility will be useful for overcoming the barrier. In this research, the F1 pollen sterility locus, S-b, was mapped between SSR markers PSM8 and PSM202. To fine map the locus, one F2 mapping population of 3910 plants was developed using the near-isogenic lines of the locus. Ninety-seven recombinants be-tween two markers were selected. Moreover, a series of markers, including two SSR markers, two InDel markers and four CAPS markers, were developed on the region. Linkage analysis showed that marker W4 was co-segregated with locus S-b, while makers A8 and A14 were located on the two sides of the locus with a distance of 0.026 and 0.038 cM, respectively. The markers were then integrated with the se-quences of the clones of the region. Results showed that all the polymorphic markers were anchored on the three end-to-end jointed clones AC093089, AC079021 and AC134931. According to the physical information of the markers, locus S-b was finally de-limited to a region of 27 kb between A8 and A14. Seven ORFs were identified on the region based on the annotation results of RiceGAAS system. 2Coking kinetics and influence of reaction-regeneration on acidity, activity and deactivation of Zn/HZSM-5 catalyst during methanol aromatization显示文摘The coking kinetics and reaction-regeneration on Zn/HZSM-5(Zn/HZ) catalyst in the conversion of methanol to aromatics were investigated.The highest initial benzene, toluene and xylene(BTX) yield of ca. 67.7% was obtained on fresh Zn/HZ catalyst, which showed the worst catalytic stability. The cycle of reaction-regeneration significantly modified the texture and acidity of Zn/HZ catalyst, which in turn affected its catalytic performance and coking behavior in methanol conversion to BTX. The residual carbon located on the surface of Zn/HZ catalyst led to the decrease of acid sites and the change on the acid sites distribution, which played an important roles on its activity and deactivation. 3Factors that contribute to poor adherence to statin therapy in coronary heart disease patients from Chongqing and measures to improve their therapeutic outcomes显示文摘To assess the efficacy and short-term outcomes of adherence to statin therapy among coronary heart disease(CHD)patients following their hospital discharge,we enrolled 615 CHD patients who were prescribed statins from The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University in China between February 1st and October 31st of 2013.Statin adherence was evaluated by identifying the proportion of patients who remained adherent or became non-adherent to statin therapy over 4e8 months post-discharge from the hospital.The composite outcomes included all-cause mortality and re-hospitalization with cardiovascular disease.We found that 15.9%patients were non-adherent to their statin therapies and that coronary artery stenosis<75%(OR Z 3.433,95%CI:2.191e5.380,p<0.001)and adverse effects(OR Z 2.542,95%CI:1.327e4.869,p Z 0.005)both clearly contributed to poor adherence.The primary self-reported reasons for non-adherence included a lack of knowledge about the benefits of statin therapy(36.7%),the treatment being halted at the advice of their doctor(19.4%),and the difficulty in obtaining statins(12.2%).Non-adherence to statin therapy was significantly associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events(OR Z 1.741,95%CI:1.035e2.929,p Z 0.037).In conclusion,CHD patients with moderate stenosis or adverse effects tended to have poor statin adherence,and this was significantly associated with increased cardiovascular events.We should strengthen education of the importance of statin therapy for both patients and doctors and facilitate the ability of patients to obtain their statin medication.Guiquan Yu Yingjiao Zhang Ying Wang Guanglei Chang Hongmei Tao Dongying Zhang 2018Genes & Diseases2018,5,4:8
4Do anogenital gland secretionsof giant panda code for their sexual ability?显示文摘To test the hypothesis of whether ano- genital gland secretions (AGS) of giant panda code for their sexual ability, we collected AGS samples of 11 male (5 adult and 6 subadult) and 14 female (7 adult and 7 subadult) captive giant pandas (Ailuro- poda melanoleuca) from China Research and Con- servation Center for the Giant Panda at Wolong, Si- chuan, China from 1994 to 2002. The samples were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The GC results showed that male and female pandas shared 20 constituents with equal capacity factors in the AGS. Further GC-MS analyses showed that there were a total of 95 compounds in the AGS. Nine constituents for the males and three for the females differed significantly in relative abundances between sexually active and inactive individuals, but no clear division between sexually active and inactive pandas by hierarchical cluster analyses on the relative abundances of a subset of 56 compounds. However, we were able to separate different age groups of male pandas by the constituents of AGS. 14 compounds were found sig- nificantly and negatively, and 8 compounds positively, correlated with pandas’ age by year. Our results suggest that the information contained in the AGS of panda might not code for pandas’ sexual ability but might for their age. 6Re–Os Dating of Bitumen from Paleo–Oil Reservoir in the Qinglong Antimony Deposit, Guizhou Province, China and Its Geological Significance显示文摘Abundant organic inclusions are present in the Qinglong antimony deposit. However, the source rocks of these organic matters have not been reliably identified. Recently, a paleo–oil reservoir was found in the Qinglong antimony deposit. In view of similar components of gaseous hydrocarbon, we propose that the organic matters observed in inclusions in Qinglong antimony deposit would come from this paleo–oil reservoir. We used the Re–Os dating method to determine the age of the bitumen from this paleo–oil reservoir, and obtained an isochron age of 254.3±2.8 Ma. The age indicates that the oilgeneration from source rock occurred in the early Late Permian, earlier than the Sb mineralization age(~148±8.5 Ma) in the Qinglong antimony deposit area. After oil generation from Devonian source rock, first and secondary migration, the crude oil have probably entered into the fractures and pores of volcanic rocks and limestone and formed a paleo–oil reservoir in the western wing of Dachang anticline. As burial process deepened, the crude oil has turned into natural gas, migrates into the core of Dachang anticline and formed a paleo–gas reservoir. The hydrocarbons(including CH_4) in the reservoirs can serve as reducing agent to provide the sulfur required for Sb mineralization through thermal chemical reduction of sulfates. 7Male panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) urine contains kinship information显示文摘Chemical communication plays an important role in kin selection and mate choice in mammals. The covariance of odor-genes of rodents has been documented and kinship odor has been proposed and termed, yet little is known of the relationship between genetic relatedness and chemical composition of kinship odors. Giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) rely substantially on chemical communication to mediate their social interactions. To examine the relationship between genetic relatedness and compounds in the urine/anogenital gland secretions, we compared the similarities between genetic relatedness and the chemical profiles of anogenital gland secretions and urine via lineage construction and GC-MS (gas chromatography and mass spectrometry). We found that information about kinship odors was present only in the urine of male adults in the mating season but absent in the non-mating season. Adult females and all sub-adults did not have such kinship odors in either mating or non-mating season. Therefore, kinship odor in the panda was contingent on age, sex, and season. 8Target chromosome-segment substitution: A way to breeding by design in rice显示文摘Progress in plant breeding depends on the development of genetic resources,genetic knowledge,and breeding techniques.The core of plant breeding is the use of naturally occurring variation.At the beginning of the post-genomic era,a new concept of'breeding by design'was proposed,which aims to control all allelic variation for all genes of agronomic importance.In the past two decades,we have applied a three-step strategy for research on rice breeding by design.In the first step,we constructed a singlesegment substitution line(SSSL)library using Huajingxian 74(HJX74),an elite xian(indica)rice cultivar,as the recipient in which to assemble genes from the rice AA genome.In the second step,we identified a series of desirable genes in the SSSL library.In the third step,we designed new rice lines,and achieved the breeding goals by pyramiding target genes in the HJX74-SSSL library.This review introduces the background,concept,and strategy of breeding by design,as well as our achievements in rice breeding by design using the HJX74-SSSL platform.Our practice shows that target chromosome-segment substitution is a way to breeding by design.Guiquan Zhang 2021The Crop Journal2021,9,3:5

10Transpositional behaviour of the Ds element in the Ac/Ds system in rice显示文摘Insertional mutagenesis based on maize Activator/Dissociator (Ac/Ds) transposons is becoming a ma- jor approach used to produce a saturated mutant collection in rice. In this research, Ds-T-DNA trans- formed homozygotes were crossed with Ac-T-DNA transformed homozygotes in order to establish an Ac/Ds transposon system in rice. The successive investigation of Ds transposition from F1 to F5 gen- erations indicated that the frequencies of germinal transposition increased over successive genera- tions and reached 54.2% in F3 generation. The Ds transposition pattern revealed that a Ds transposition induced an approximately 170-bp deletion of T-DNA sequence and another Ds transposition carried a 272-bp T-DNA sequence. Using thermal asymmetric interlaced PCR (TAIL-PCR), some flanking se- quences of the Ds element were amplified. Analyses of 17 Ds-flanking sequences showed that five Ds were inserted into gene regions. The Ds could transpose not only to the linked sites but also to the unlinked sites. 12High-throughput sequencing analysis of the regulation of intestinal flora in giant pandas with indigestion using a probiotic agent LyPB显示文摘This study aimed to investigate the eff ect of LyPB on the intestinal microfl ora of giant pandas with indigestion,using high-throughput sequencing(HTS)technology.The species distribution and microfl oral density and diversity before and after administration of the LyPB probiotic agent were analyzed.LyPB evidently has the ability to adjust the fl oral imbalance in the panda’s intestine.To test the eff ects of LyPB on the microfl ora of the panda gut,fecal samples were taken from a healthy giant panda(Anan)without administration of LyPB and from a dyspeptic giant panda Yangyang before and after LyPB administration.Compared with the sample obtained from healthy Anan(anan-c)and that obtained from dyspeptic Yangyang before LyPB administration(yangyang1),the sample taken from Yangyang(yangyang2)after LyPB administration displayed a signifi cant increase in the operational taxonomic unit index.An increase in the Chao index indicated an increase in the microfl oral richness,while an increase in the Shannon index indicated an increase in microfl oral diversity.At phylum and genus levels,a signifi cant increase was observed in the density of probiotic bacteria of phylum fi rmicutes,genus Streptococcus,while a drastic reduction in the density of Escherichia coli/Escherichia coli Shigella/bacteria of genus Shigella was observed.Data obtained in this study shows that LyPB preparations successfully improve the microbial structure within the panda’s intestinal canal by signifi cantly increasing the eff ective microbial community and decreasing the number of pathogenic microbes.Yu Zhang Zhi Zhang Jianzhang Ma Bo Luo Guiquan Zhang Guocai Zhang Kexin Yang Gang Wei 2020Journal of Forestry Research2020,31,6:3
13Natural variations in grain length 10(GL10)regulate rice grain size显示文摘Grain size is an important determinant of grain weight and yield in rice.Although several genes related to grain size have been identified,natural variations in these genes that affect grain size are poorly characterized.Here,we describe the grain length QTL GL10,encoding MADS56,which positively regulates grain length and grain weight.A natural allelic variation of NIL-gl10,containing an~1.0-kb deletion in the first exon that abolishes its transcription,results in shorter grain length,lower grain weight and delayed flowering in gl10 plants.The knockout of GL10 in the HJX74 background leads to grain phenotypes similar to that of NIL-gl10,while overexpression of GL10 results in increased grain length and weight and earlier heading date.GL10 regulates grain length by promoting greater longitudinal cell growth in the grain glume.Additionally,GL10 participates in the regulation of gibberellic acid(GA)signaling pathway genes in young panicle tissues.Analysis of GL10 haplotypes shows obvious divergence between the japonica and indica lineages.Our findings reveal an allelic variation of GL10 that may explain differences in grain length among modern cultivars and could be used to breed rice varieties with optimized grain shape.Penglin Zhan Shuaipeng Ma Zhili Xiao Fangping Li Xin Wei Shaojun Lin Xiaoling Wang Zhe Ji Yu Fu Jiahao Pan Mi Zhou Yue Liu Zengyuan Chang Lu Li Suhong Bu Zupei Liu Haitao Zhu Guifu Liu Guiquan Zhang Shaokui Wang 2022Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,5:3
14Experimental Studies on the Natural Restoration and the Artificial Culture of the Moss Crusts on Fixed Dunes in the Tengger Desert,China显示文摘Soil microbiotic crusts cover extensive portions of the arid and semiarid regions of the world and play an important ecological role.Moss is one of the major components in the crusts.The reproduction and establishment of the mosses are crucial to the formation of moss crusts.Bryum argenteum is the dominant species of moss crusts in the Shapotou region(104°57′E,37°27′N)of the Tengger Desert.In search for the characteristics of natural reproduction and establishment of the mosses,10 quadrates(10×10 cm for each)were obtained by removing the moss crusts in different positions of fixed dunes.These 10 quadrates were observed for 3 years depending on the species’components and coverage.Meanwhile,in the third year,two quadrates(1×1 m for each)were set up in a crustabsent area and two different experiments of the asexual reproduction(broadcast planting and offshoots)were conducted,respectively.The reproductive process was observed under the microscope,and the morphological indicators of the new individuals were measured.The results were compared with the ones from indoor experiments using the same methods.All the results showed the following:(1)70%of the quadrates(i.e.,7 of the 10 quadrates)were recovered within 3–4 years;thus,the quick recovery might be due to the dispersal and reproduction of the fragments of stems and leaves of B.argenteum;(2)as for the two quadrates in the artificial reproduction test,the new plants occupied the uncovered space of the quadrates in 1 month,and there were two main reproduction approaches,one of which was that the stems continually branched and produced young plants,and the other was that the young plants and the fragments of the stems and leaves repeatedly and extensively reproduced protonema,which finally developed into a large number of new plants;(3)the reproductive characteristics were identical,though the protonema in the field was more robust and had more branches than the ones indoors.Tian Guiquan Bai Xueliang Xu Jie Wang Xiandao 2006Frontiers in Biology2006,1,1:2
15Ginger-indirect moxibustion plus acupuncture versus acupuncture alone for chronic fatigue syndrome:a randomized controlled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To assess the efficacy and safety of gingerindirect moxibustion for chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS).METHODS:In this central randomized,controlled trial,290 CFS participants were recruited and randomly allocated to group A(ginger-indirect moxibustion plus acupuncture)or group B(acupuncture alone).The study consisted of a treatment period of 8 weeks with a total of 24 treatments(3 sessions per week,every other day),and a follow-up period of 12 weeks.The outcome was measured by Fatigue Severity Scale(FSS),Psychological Health Report(SPHERE),the Self-rating depression scale(SDS)and the Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA)at baseline,2,4,6,8,12 and 20 weeks.RESULTS:With the treatment undergoing,the changes of FSS,SPHERE,SDS and HAMA scores in both groups increased gradually,and the effect maintained at the 12th week.Between groups,significantly higher score changes were seen in group A in FSS after 4 weeks treatment(11.94 vs 9.12,95%CI:0.94,4.7)and in SPHERE after 2 weeks treatment(3.7 vs 2.27,95%CI:0.56,2.31).But for SDS and HAMA,the improvement did not differ significantly between groups.No severe adverse events were reported.CONCLUSION:Ginger-indirect moxibustion is a safe and effective intervention to relieve fatigue and accompanying physical symptoms of CFS.MA Tingting WU Jie YANG Lijie FENG Fen YANG Huilin ZHANG Jinhua ZHONG Yanjin NING Qing HUANG Lirong LIN Youbing YAN Jue CHEN Guiquan HOU Tianshu WANG Li REN Yuanfang TAN Jing 2022Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2022,42,2:2
16HREM Observation of Age-Precipitated Particles in Practical Cu-bearing Ultra-Low Carbon Steels显示文摘Morphology,distribution and crystal structures of age-precipitated particles in practical Cu-bearing steels with ultra-low carbon were studied by high resolution electron microscopy(HREM).The age-precipitation behavior was explored when poly-microalloying elements Cu,Nb,Cr,Mo and Ni were used and ε-Cu particles coexisted with carbides(carbonitrides) in steels.The fine dispersed ε-Cu particles and carbides of microalloying element Nb,Cr,Mo being about 10 nm only in size were observed in peak aging specimens and over-aging specimens.The twin structures and stacking faults in the particles and the transient structures formed in the early stage of the particle precipitation were also observed.The crystal structure of three types of age-precipitation particles was firstly identified by lattice streaks in HREM images of the single particles.The experimental method identifying crystal structure of fine and dispersed particles using HREM images of single particle was proposed.Guiquan Yin Caifu Yang Yinong Lu 2010Journal of Materials Science & Technology2010,26,5:2
17Seasonal variations in the plant diet of the Chinese Monal revealed by fecal DNA metabarcoding analysis显示文摘The Chinese Monal(Lophophorus thuysii)is an alpine-obligate galliform species of global conservation priority.It has been listed as a first class protected wildlife species in China,requiring conservation actions during the 14 th Five-Year Plan period.However,the diet composition of Chinese Monal and its seasonal variations have rarely been studied,constraining the effective conservation of the species.Here,we investigated the plant diet composition of the Chinese Monal and its seasonal variations using a DNA metabarcoding approach on fecal samples.We collected 190 fecal samples of the Chinese Monals from the central Qionglai Mountains located in China,and analyzed the plant diet of this species using a DNA metabarcoding approach.Taxonomic profiling of higher plants in the fecal samples was performed using the second internal transcribed spacer(ITS2)amplicon.Downstream analyses,including rarefaction curves,nonmetric multidimensional scaling(NMDS)and permutational multivariate analysis of variance(PERMANOVA),were used to explore the seasonal variations in diet composition.The Chinese Monal foraged a wide range of plant recipes composed of 35 families and 83 genera throughout the year,with Brassicaceae,Apiaceae,and Poaceae as the dominant families,and Cardamine as the dominant genus.The species consumed plants from 62 genera from 28 families during the breeding season(n=81)and 66 genera from 31 families during the non-breeding season(n=109).Further,the plant diet composition significantly varied between the breeding and non-breeding seasons,especially for the frequency of occurrence and relative read abundances at genus level.Our study analyzed the plant diet of the Chinese Monal at a high resolution for the first time,and the results revealed that the seasonal variations in its plant diet composition was adapted to plant phenology and foraging strategy.Fritillaria species,a previously confirmed important food resource for the Chinese Monal,were not detected in any fecal samples,potentially due to overharvesting of Fritillaria bulbs for Traditional Chinese Medicine.Therefore,we highly recommend further restriction of herb gathering in Chinese Monal habitats to facilitate the conservation of this endangered species.Altogether,our study enriches essential ecological information for the Chinese Monal and also provides insights into conservation management for this endangered species.Bin Wang Yun Li Guiquan Zhang Jian Yang Cao Deng Haoyu Hu Long Zhang Xiaoqin Xu Caiquan Zhou 2022Avian Research2022,13,2:2
18ISG20 inhibits bluetongue virus replication显示文摘ISG20 is an interferon-inducible exonuclease that inhibits virus replication.Although ISG20 is thought to degrade viral RNA,the antiviral mechanism and specificity of ISG20 remain unclear.In this study,the antiviral role of ovine ISG20(o ISG20)in bluetongue virus(BTV)infection was investigated.It was found that BTV infection upregulated the transcription of ovine ISG20(o ISG20)in a time-and BTV multiplicity of infection(MOI)-dependent manner.Overexpression of o ISG20 suppressed the production of BTV genome,proteins,and virus titer,whereas the knockdown of o ISG20 increased viral replication.o ISG20 was found to co-localize with BTV proteins VP4,VP5,VP6,and NS2,but only directly interacted with VP4.Exonuclease defective o ISG20 significantly decreased the inhibitory effect on BTV replication.In addition,the interaction of mutant o ISG20 and VP4 was weakened,suggesting that binding to VP4 was associated with the inhibition of BTV replication.The present data characterized the anti-BTV effect of o ISG20,and provides a novel clue for further exploring the inhibition mechanism of double-stranded RNA virus by ISG20.Di Kang Shandian Gao Zhancheng Tian Guorui Zhang Guiquan Guan Guangyuan Liu Jianxun Luo Junzheng Du Hong Yin 2022Virologica Sinica2022,37,4:2
