1China's lakes at present:Number,area and spatial distribution显示文摘Based on 11004 satellite images from CBERS CCD and Landsat TM/ETM,changes in the spatial characteristics of all lakes in China were determined following pre-established interpretation rules.This dataset was supported by 6843 digital raster images(1:100000 and 1:50000),a countrywide digital vector dataset(1:250000),and historical literature.Comparative data were corrected for seasonal variations using precipitation data.There are presently 2693 natural lakes in China with an area greater than 1.0 km2,excluding reservoirs.These lakes are distributed in 28 provinces,autonomous regions and municipalities and have a total area of 81414.6 km2,accounting for-0.9% of China's total land area.In the past 30 years,the number of newly formed and newly discovered lakes with an area greater than 1.0 km2 is 60 and 131,respectively.Conversely,243 lakes have disappeared in this time period.MA RongHua YANG GuiShan DUAN HongTao JIANG JiaHu WANG SuMin FENG XueZhi LI AiNong KONG FanXiang XUE Bin WU JingLu LI ShiJie 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,2:79
2Non-stationary water-level fluctuation in China's Poyang Lake and its interactions with Yangtze River显示文摘Seasonal water-level fluctuations(WLF) play a dominate role in lacustrine ecosystems. River-lake interaction is a direct factor in changes of seasonal lake WLF, especially for those lakes naturally connected to upstream and downstream rivers. During the past decade, the modification of WLF in the Poyang Lake(the largest freshwater lake in China) has caused intensified flood and irrigation crises, reduced water availability, compromised water quality and extensive degradation of the lake ecosystem. There has been a conjecture as to whether the modification was caused by its interactions with Yangtze River. In this study, we investigated the variations of seasonal WLF in China's Poyang Lake by comparing the water levels during the four distinct seasons(the dry season, the rising season, the flood season, and the retreating season) before and after 2003 when the Three Gorge Dam operated. The Water Surface Slope(WSS) was used as a representative parameter to measure the changes in river-lake interaction and its impacts on seasonal WLF. The results showed that the magnitude of seasonal WLF has changed considerably since 2003; the seasonal WLF of the Poyang Lake have been significantly altered by the fact that the water levels both rise and retreat earlier in the season and lowered water levels in general. The fluctuations of river-lake interactions, in particular the changes during the retreating season, are mainly responsible for these variations in magnitude of seasonal WLF. This study demonstrates that WSS is a representative parameter to denote river-lake interactions, and the results indicate that more emphasis should be placed on the decrease of the Poyang Lake caused by the lowered water levels of the Yangtze River, especially in the retreating season.DAI Xue WAN Rongrong YANG Guishan 2015Journal of Geographical Sciences2015,25,3:18

4Using Fuzzy Theory and Variable Weights for Water Quality Evaluation in Poyang Lake, China显示文摘Achieving water purity in Poyang Lake has become a major concern in recent years, thus appropriate evaluation of spatial and temporal water quality variations has become essential. Variations in 11 water quality parameters from 15 sampling sites in Poyang Lake were investigated from 2009 to 2012. An integrative fuzzy variable evaluation(IFVE) model based on fuzzy theory and variable weights was developed to measure variations in water quality. Results showed that: 1) only chlorophyll-a concentration and Secchi depth differed significantly among the 15 sampling sites(P < 0.01), whereas the 11 water quality parameters under investigation differed significantly throughout the seasons(P < 0.01). The annual variations of all water quality variables except for temperature, electrical conductivity, suspended solids and total phosphorus were considerable(P < 0.05). 2) The IFVE model was reasonable and flexible in evaluating water quality status and any possible ′bucket effect′. The model fully considered the influences of extremely poor indices on overall water quality. 3) A spatial analysis indicated that anthropogenic activities(particularly industrial sewage and dredging) and lake bed topography might directly affect water quality in Poyang Lake. 6Influence of Land Use/Cover Change on Storm Runoff—A Case Study of Xitiaoxi River Basin in Upstream of Taihu Lake Watershed显示文摘Land use/cover change (LUCC) is one of the main boundary conditions which influence many hydrologic processes. In view of the importance of Taihu Lake Watershed in China and the urgency of discovering the impacts of LUCC on storm runoff, two flood events under five land cover scenarios in the Xitiaoxi River Basin of the upstream of Taihu Lake watershed were simulated by distributed hydrologic modeling system HEC-HMS. The influences of each land cover on storm runoff were discussed. It was concluded that under the same rainstorm the ascending order of runoff coefficient and peak flow produced by the 5 different land covers were woodland, shrub, grassland, arable land, and built-up land; the descending order of swelling time were woodland, shrub, grassland, arable land, and built-up land. Scenario of built-up land was the first to reach peak flow, then arable land, grassland, shrub, and woodland. There were close relationships between the runoff coefficients produced by the 5 different land covers. The degrees of impacts on runoff coefficient of land cover change modes were sorted by descending: woodland to built-up land, shrub to built-up land, grassland to built-up land, arable land to built-up land, woodland to arable land, shrub to arable land, arable land to grassland, shrub to grassland, grassland to arable land, and woodland to shrub. 8How is mRNA expression predictive for protein expression? 10Impacts of Land Cover Changes on Ecosystem Carbon Stocks Over the Transboundary Tumen River Basin in Northeast Asia显示文摘Understanding the effects of land cover changes on ecosystem carbon stocks is essential for ecosystem management and environmental protection, particularly in the transboundary region that has undergone marked changes. This study aimed to examine the impacts of land cover changes on ecosystem carbon stocks in the transboundary Tumen River Basin(TTRB). We extracted the spatial information from Landsat Thematic Imager(TM) and Operational Land Imager(OLI) images for the years 1990 and 2015 and obtained convincing estimates of terrestrial biomass and soil carbon stocks with the InVEST model. The results showed that forestland, cropland and built-up land increased by 57.5, 429.7 and 128.9 km2, respectively, while grassland, wetland and barren land declined by 24.9, 548.0 and 43.0 km2, respectively in the TTRB from 1990 to 2015. The total carbon stocks encompassing aboveground, belowground, soil and litter layer carbon storage pools have declined from 831.48 Tg C in 1990 to 831.42 Tg C in 2015 due to land cover changes. In detail, the carbon stocks decreased by 3.13 Tg C and 0.44 Tg C in Democratic People's Republic of Korea(North Korea) and Russia, respectively, while increased by 3.51 Tg C in China. Furthermore, economic development, and national policy accounted for most land cover changes in the TTRB. 12Effects of protein sources for milk replacers on growth performance and serum biochemical indexes of suckling calves显示文摘This study investigated the effects of protein sources for milk replacers on growth performance and serum biochemical indexes of suckling calves. Fifty Chinese Holstein bull calves with similar BW and age were randomly allocated to 5 groups(1 control and 4 treatments) of 10 calves in each group. Five types of milk replacers were designed to have the same level of energy and protein. The protein source for milk replacers of the control group was full milk protein(MP). The protein source of milk replacers of the 4 treatment groups was composed of MP and one vegetable protein(VP)(30 and 70% of total protein). The4 types of VP were soybean protein concentrate(SP), hydrolyzed wheat protein(WP), peanut protein concentrate(PP), and rice protein isolate(RP). Results of the experiment showed: 1) there was no significant difference on average daily gain(ADG) and feed:gain ratio(F:G) among the MP, SP and RP groups(P > 0.05), whereas the ADG and F:G of the WP and PP groups were significantly lower compared with the MP group(P < 0.05); 2) there was not a significant difference in withers height, body length and heart girth among treatment groups compared with the MP group(P > 0.05). Thereby the 4 VP milk replacers had no adverse effects on body size of calves; 3) all groups showed no significant difference in the serum contents of urea nitrogen, total protein, albumin, globulin, β-hydroxybutyrate, growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor-1, and the ratio of albumin to globulin(A:G)(P> 0.05). 13Analyzing and quantitatively evaluating the organic matter source at different ecologic zones of tidal salt marsh, North Jiangsu Province, China显示文摘In order to explore the effect of different eco-logical zones and their above plants in the organic matter cycling of the whole tidal salt marsh,indicators such as total organic carbon(TOC),total nitrogen(TN),C/N ratio,δ13C and d15N of surface,core sediments,and plants of tidal salt marshes in North Jiangsu Province are analyzed.Subse-quently,distribution regularities of these measurement indi-cators are discussed,and the biogeochemistry processes between sediments and plants are also analyzed.Lastly,the organic matter sources of different ecologic zones in tidal salt marsh are evaluated,and the organic matter accumu-lations in different ecologic zones induced by their plants are also compared.These results indicate that TOC,TN,C/N ratio and δ13C showed obvious zonal distribution.The organic matter sources are dominated by marine input in the silt flat,artemisia schrenkiana flat,and the transition zone between silt and spartina alterniflora flat,and are controlled by terrigenous input in spartina alterniflora flat.Spartina alterniflora plays an important role in the accumulation of organic matter in the whole tidal salt marshes ecosystem.In the study area,the annually increased TOC,organic matter and TN in the spartina alterniflora,artemisia schrenkiana and reed flats reach 6,451,12,043 and 536 t,respectively.The amount of TOC,organic matter and TN accumulated in the spartina alterniflora flat is more than that in other ecological zones,which shows that the spartina alterniflora flat exert a non-replaceable effect on the material cycle and exchange in the whole tidal salt marshes ecosystem.Jianhua GAO Guishan YANG Weixin OU 2008Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2008,2,1:5

16Impact of seasonal water-level fluctuations on autumn vegetation in Poyang Lake wetland,China显示文摘Water level fluctuations (WLF) are natural patterns that are necessary for the survival of various plants,and WLF guarantee both the productivity and the biodiversity of wetlands.However,the underlying mechanisms of how changes in vegetation are linked to seasonal WLF remain unclear.Using vegetation and hydrological data from 1989 to 2009,we identified the key seasonal fluctuations and their impacts on vegetation in the Poyang Lake wetland by utilizing a tree-based hierarchical model.According to our results: 1) WLF in summer had significant impacts on both sedges and reeds.The severe summer floods promoted the expansion of sedges,while they inhibited the expansion of reeds;2) WLF in autumn also greatly impacted sedges,while reeds were severely affected in spring.Specifically,we found that low water levels in autumn led to the expansion of sedges,and low water levels in spring led to the expansion of reeds.The results were well corroborated through comparisons of the vegetation distribution patterns over the last two decades (i.e.,the 1990s and 2000s),which may shed light on corresponding water resource and wetland management.Xue DAI Rongrong WAN Guishan YANG Xiaolong WANG Ligang XU Yanyan LI Bing LI 2019Frontiers of Earth Science2019,13,2:3
17Soil Moisture Response to Rainfall in Forestland and Vegetable Plot in Taihu Lake Basin,China显示文摘Soil moisture and its spatial pattern are important for understanding various hydrological,pedological,ecological and agricultural processes.In this study,data of rainfall and soil moisture contents at different depths(10 cm,20 cm,40 cm and 60 cm) in forestland and vegetable plot in the Taihu Lake Basin,China were monitored and analyzed for characteristics of soil moisture variation and its response to several typical rainfall events.The following results were observed.First,great temporal variation of soil moisture was observed in the surface layer than in deeper layer in vegetable plot.In contrast,in forestland,soil moisture had similar variation pattern at different depths.Second,initial soil moisture was an important factor influencing the vertical movement of soil water during rainfall events.In vegetable plot,simultaneous response of soil moisture to rainfall was observed at 10-and 20-cm depths due to fast infiltration when initial soil was relatively dry.However,traditional downward response order occurred when initial soil was relatively wet.Third,critical soil horizon interface was an active zone of soil water accumulation and lateral movement.A less permeable W-B soil horizon interface(40-cm depth) in vegetable plot can create perched water table above it and elevate the soil water content at the corresponding depth.Fourth,the land cover was an effective control factor of soil moisture during small and moderate rainfall events.In the forestland,moderate and small rainfall events had tiny influences on soil moisture due to canopy and surface O horizon interception.Fifth,preferential flow and lateral subsurface interflow were important paths of soil water movement.During large and long duration rainfall events,lateral subsurface flow and preferential flow through surface crack or soil pipe occurred,which recharged the deep soil.However,in more concentrated large storm,surface crack or soil pipe connected by soil macropores was the main contributor to the occurrence of preferential flow.Findings of this study provide a theoretical foundation for sustainable water and fertilizer management and land use planning in the Taihu Lake Basin.LI Qian ZHU Qing ZHENG Jinsen LIAO Kaihua YANG Guishan 2015Chinese Geographical Science2015,25,4:3

20Macrophages in immunoregulation and therapeutics显示文摘Macrophages exist in various tissues,several body cavities,and around mucosal surfaces and are a vital part of the innate immune system for host defense against many pathogens and cancers.Macrophages possess binary M1/M2 macrophage polarization settings,which perform a central role in an array of immune tasks via intrinsic signal cascades and,therefore,must be precisely regulated.Many crucial questions about macrophage signaling and immune modulation are yet to be uncovered.In addition,the clinical importance of tumor-associated macrophages is becoming more widely recognized as significant progress has been made in understanding their biology.Moreover,they are an integral part of the tumor microenvironment,playing a part in the regulation of a wide variety of processes including angiogenesis,extracellular matrix transformation,cancer cell proliferation,metastasis,immunosuppression,and resistance to chemotherapeutic and checkpoint blockade immunotherapies.Herein,we discuss immune regulation in macrophage polarization and signaling,mechanical stresses and modulation,metabolic signaling pathways,mitochondrial and transcriptional,and epigenetic regulation.Furthermore,we have broadly extended the understanding of macrophages in extracellular traps and the essential roles of autophagy and aging in regulating macrophage functions.Moreover,we discussed recent advances in macrophages-mediated immune regulation of autoimmune diseases and tumorigenesis.Lastly,we discussed targeted macrophage therapy to portray prospective targets for therapeutic strategies in health and diseases.Shanze Chen Abdullah F.U.H.Saeed Quan Liu Qiong Jiang Haizhao Xu Gary Guishan Xiao Lang Rao Yanhong Duo 2023Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2023,8,6:2
