| 1 | Expression of cell adhesion molecule CD44 in gastric adenocarcinoma and its prognostic importance显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the relation of cluster of differentiation 44 (CD44) expression with clinicopathological features of gastric adenocarcinoma, and also its effect on prognosis with an emphasis on the differences between intestinal and diffuse types. METHODS: From 2000 to 2006, 100 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma, who had undergone total or subtotal gastrectomy without any prior treatment, were studied. Haematoxylin & eosin (HE) staining was used for histological evaluation, including the type (Lauren's classifi cation) and grading of the tumor. The expression of CD44 in the gastric adenocarcinoma mucosa and the adjacent mucosa were determined by immunohistochemistry. The survival analysis was obtained using the Kaplan-Meier test. RESULTS: Of 100 patients, 74 (74%) patients were male. The tumors were categorized as intestinal type (78%) or diffuse type (22%). Sixty-five percent of patients were CD44-positive. CD44 expression was not detected in normal gastric mucosa. Rather, CD44 was more commonly expressed in the intestinal subtype (P = 0.002). A signifi cant relation was seen between the grade of tumor and the expression of CD44 (P = 0.014). The survival analysis showed a poor prognosis of patients with CD44-positive tumors (P = 0.008); and this was more prominent in the intestinal (P = 0.001) rather than diffuse type. CONCLUSION: Cell adhesion molecule CD44 is highly expressed in gastric adenocarcinoma. CD44 expression is correlated with a poor prognosis in patients with the intestinal type of gastric adenocarcinoma. | 3 | Two novel sets of UiO-66@metal oxide/graphene oxide Z-scheme heterojunction:Insight into tetracycline and malathion photodegradation显示文摘Nowadays,widespread researches have been focused on the development of effective photocatalysts to remove pollutants of the aquatic system.In accordance with the universal studies,two new sets of UiO-66@metal oxide(including ZnO and TiO2)/graphene oxide heterojunctions were synthesized for photodegradation of aromatic(tetracycline)and nonaromatic(malathion)pollutants which are challenging cases in the environment.The dosage of the photocatalyst,pH of the solution,the type of metal oxide,and the presence of various scavengers are assayed parameters in this work.In the optimum condition,maximum photodegradation efficiency is achieved in 90 min for tetracycline(81%)and malathion(100%)by the UiO-66@ZnO/graphene oxide.The superior separation of charge carriers by Z-scheme mechanism,excellent electron mobility on layers of graphene oxide and high surface area are factors that enhanced the efficiency.Furthermore,in comparison with pure UiO-66,the band gaps belong to heterojunctions revealed a red shift in the absorption edge,which can be responsible for more expand adsorption of the solar spectrum.Total organic carbon analysis verified the decontamination of these pollutants in the solution.The produced main intermediates during the photocatalytic process were identified and the possible degradation pathway proposed.In general,the superior photocatalytic activity suggests that these designed photocatalysts can be a promising choice for having a clean future. | Hanieh Fakhri Hasan Bagheri | 2020 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,5: | 2 |
| 4 | Efficacy of the herbal formula of Foeniculum vulgare and Rosa damascena on elderly patients with functional constipation:A double-blind randomized controlled trial显示文摘Background:Constipation is a common chronic bowel disorder with an incidence of more than 50%in the elderly population.Complementary and alternative medicine is a cost-effective and satisfactory treatment for constipation used widely by the elderly.Objective:This study evaluates the efficacy of an herbal formula made from Foeniculum vulgare Mill.and Rosa damascena for the treatment of constipation in an elderly population and consequent changes to their quality of life.Design,setting,participants and intervention:This double-blind randomized active controlled clinical trial,with parallel group allocation ratio of 1:1,was conducted in a referral clinic in Afzalipour Hospital,affiliated to Kerman University of Medical Sciences in Kerman,Southeastern Iran.Individuals over 60 years of age,diagnosed with functional constipation(based on the RomeⅣcriteria),were included in this study.Participants received a sachet of 10 g F.vulgare and R.damascena(herbal formula group)or polyethylene glycol 4000(PEG 4000 group)with a glass of warm water two times a day for 4 weeks and were followed up for 4 additional weeks.Main outcome measures:Constipation severity,stool consistency,and the quality of life were used as the primary outcomes.Drug side effects were used as a secondary outcome.The outcomes were assessed using the Constipation Assessment Scale,the Bristol Stool Form Scale,and the Patient Assessment of Constipation Quality of Life questionnaire.Results:A total of 25 participants in each group completed the four-week treatment cycle and the eightweek follow-up.At the end of the four-week treatment cycle,all clinical outcomes had significant improvements in both groups(P<0.05).The analysis of constipation severity(P<0.001),stool consistency(P<0.001),and the quality of life(P<0.001)showed significant improvements with fewer side effects(mild diarrhea)and a longer duration of symptom relief in the herbal formula group compared to the PEG 4000 group.Conclusion:Although both interventions significantly improved the treatment outcomes,constipation severity,stool consistency and the quality of life were improved more effectively by the herbal formula than by PEG 4000;however,the mechanism of action is not yet understood.Trial registration:This trial was registered in the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials(IRCTID:IRCT20200108046056N1). | Maryam Azimi Hanieh Niayesh Mahboobeh Raeiszadeh Sedigheh Khodabandeh-shahraki | 2022 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2022,20,3: | 2 |

| 17 | Intra-and interspecific diversity analyses in the genus Eremurus in Iran using genotyping-bysequencing reveal geographic population structure显示文摘Eremurus species,better known as‘Foxtail Lily’or‘Desert Candle’,are important worldwide in landscaping and the cutflower industry.One of the centers of highest diversity of the genus Eremurus is Iran,which has seven species.However,little is known about the genetic diversity within the genus Eremurus.With the advent of genotyping-bysequencing(GBS),it is possible to develop and employ single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)markers in a costefficient manner in any species,regardless of its ploidy level,genome size or availability of a reference genome.Population structure and phylogeographic analyses of the genus Eremurus in Iran using a minimum of 3002 SNP markers identified either at the genus level or at the species level from GBS data showed longitudinal geographic structuring at the country scale for the genus and for the species E.spectabilis and E.luteus,and at the regional scale for E.olgae.Our analyses furthermore showed a close genetic relatedness between E.olgae and E.stenophyllus to the extent that they should be considered subspecies within an E.olgae/stenophyllus species complex.Their close genetic relatedness may explain why crosses between these two(sub)species have been found in the wild and are exploited extensively as ornamentals.Last,current species identification,while robust,relies on flower morphology.A subset of seven SNPs with species-specific(private)alleles were selected that differentiate the seven Eremurus species.The markers will be especially useful for cultivar protection and in hybrid production,where true hybrids could be identified at the seedling stage. | Hanieh Hadizadeh Bochra A.Bahri Peng Qi H.Dayton Wilde Katrien M.Devos | 2020 | Horticulture Research2020,7,1: | 1 |
