| 1 | Understanding the interaction of hepatitis C virus with host DEAD-box RNA helicases显示文摘The current therapeutic regimen to combat chronic hepatitis C is not optimal due to substantial side effects and the failure of a significant proportion of patients to achieve a sustained virological response.Recently developed direct-acting antivirals targeting hepatitis C virus(HCV)enzymes reportedly increase the virologic response to therapy but may lead to a selection of drug-resistant variants.Besides directacting antivirals,another promising class of HCV drugs in development include host targeting agents that are responsible for interfering with the host factors crucia for the viral life cycle.A family of host proteins known as DEAD-box RNA helicases,characterized by nine conserved motifs,is known to play an important role in RNA metabolism.Several members of this family such as DDX3,DDX5 and DDX6 have been shown to play a role in HCV replication and this review will summarize our current knowledge on their interaction with HCV.As chronic hepatitis C is one of the leading causes of hepatocellular carcinoma,the involvement of DEADbox RNA helicases in the development of HCC will also be highlighted.Continuing research on the interaction of host DEAD-box proteins with HCV and the contribution to viral replication and pathogenesis could be the panacea for the development of novel therapeutics against HCV. | Megha Haridas Upadya Jude Juventus Aweya Yee-Joo Tan | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,11: | 6 |
| 2 | Efficacy of boswellic acid on lysosomal acid hydrolases,lipid peroxidation and anti-oxidant status in gouty arthritic mice显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of boswellic acid against monosodium urate crystal-induced inflammation in mice.Methods:The mice were divided into four experimental groups.GroupⅠserved as control;mice in groupⅡwere injected with monosodium urate crystal;groupⅢconsisted of monosodium urate crystal-induced mice who were treated with boswellic acid(30mg/kg/b.w.);groupⅣcomprised monosodium urate crystal-induced mice who were treated with indomethacin(3mg/kg/b.w.).Paw volume and levels/activities of lysosomal enzymes,lipid peroxidation,anti-oxidant status and inflammatory mediator TNF-αwere determined in control and monosodium urate crystal-induced mice.In addition,the levels ofβ-glucuronidase and lactate dehydrogenase were also measured in monosodium urate crystal-incubated polymorphonuclear leucocytes(PMNL)in vitro.Results:The activities of lysosomal enzymes,lipid peroxidation,and tumour necrosis factor-αlevels and paw volume were increased significantly in monosodium urate crystal-induced mice,whereas the activities of antioxidant status were in turn decreased.However,these changes were modulated to near normal levels upon boswellic acid administration.In vitro,boswellic acid reduced the level ofβ-glucuronidase and lactate dehydrogenase in monosodium urate crystal-incubated PMNL in concentration dependent manner when compared with control cells.Conclusions:The results obtained in this study further strengthen the anti-inflammatory/antiarthritic effect of boswellic acid,which was already well established by several investigators. | Evan Prince Sabina Haridas Indu Mahaboobkhan Rasool | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,2: | 4 |
| 3 | Lipid enhancement in microalgae by temporal phase separation:Use of indigenous sources of nutrients显示文摘Microalgae have been recommended as superior candidate for fuel production because of their advantages of higher photosynthetic efficiency, biomass & lipid productivity, and faster growth rate as compared to other energy crops. To meet up all these criteria, we have developed a continuous outdoor micro-algal raceway pond reactor(RPR) and a lab scale indoor tubular photo bioreactor(PBR) for biofuel production. An attempt to utilise indigenous sources of nutrients to improve the economics also revealed that micro-algal culturing can also be used as a mode of nutrient removal and water treatment. The photosynthetic rate and lipid production were enhanced by arresting daytime cell division and promoting night-time cell division. A 50% lipid improvement was observed for the particular algal consortia. Microscopic studies revealed that temporal phase separation could be achieved by adjusting nutrient distribution pattern. To monitor temporal phase separation, it is required to know DNA multiplication model.
