4Designing for Softness in Semiconducting Conjugated Polymers显示文摘BEYOND STRETCHABLE:SOFT CONJUGATED POLYMERS Our interactions with electronics are rapidly being reimagined:contact lenses can be functionalized to report blood glucose levels via tear analytes,drug therapeutics can be released slowly from skin-like wearable films,and implantable bioelectronics can monitor the dynamics of neurotransmitters in vivo.1,2 To ensure seamless integration with our dynamic and curvilinear bodies,electronic materials that are soft and stretchable must be developed.Generally,inherently rigid inorganic materials can be rendered stretchable through strain engineering,whereas organic materials can be designed on a molecular level to be intrinsically stretchable.As for softness,notable approaches include preparing composites of conductive fillers with inert soft matrixes,in situ polymerization of conductive polymers on soft materials,and formulating conductive hydrogels.A ubiquitous polymer used for soft and stretchable conductive materials is poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate)(PEDOT:PSS).There are comparatively fewer examples of soft semiconducting materials,even though there are numerous reports of stretchable semiconducting materials.Often,the terms stretchable and softness are conflated,especially as they are typically synonymous in the development of conductive materials based on PEDOT:PSS.Herein,we aim to provide key distinguishing characterization metrics on softness and discuss molecular design strategies for soft semiconducting polymers.Nathan Sung Yuan Hsu Angela Lin Helen Tran 2023Accounts of Materials Research2023,4,3:0
