12002—Emergence of the Gas-to-Liquids Industry:a Review of Global GTL Developments显示文摘This paper reviews the status of the gas-to-liquids (GTL) industry - including currentcommercial plants, announced projects and the technologies that are likely to be implemented in thesefuture projects. Today, only 35,000 B/D of GTL products (0.1% of market) are manufactured fromcommercial gas-based plants. Advances in technology have lowered the cost of plants to the point whereGTL plants can be profitable at crude oil prices of $16/B. The advanced stage of development of severalproposed GTL projects and attractive integrated economics, for both the gas field and plant, show thatGTL can be a significant alternative for monetizing natural gas in the 21st century. GTL technologiesincludes more than Fischer-Tropsch technology and extends to other liquid fuels, especially in the oxygenatefamily (methanol, dimethyl ether, etc.).T.H.Fleisch,R.A.Sills,M.D.BriscoeBP Upstream Technology Group, P. 2Molecular signal transduction in vascular cell apoptosis显示文摘Apoptosis is a form of genetically programmed cell death, which plays a key role in regulation of cellularity in a variety of tissue and cell types including the cardiovascular tissues. Under both physiological and pathophysiological conditions, various biophysiological and biochemical factors, including mechanical forces, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, cytokines, growth factors, oxidized lipoproteins, etc., ma influence apoptosis of vascular cells. The Fas/Fas ligand/caspase death-signaling pathway, Bcl-2 protein family/mitochondria, the tumor suppressive gene p53, and the proto-oncogene c-myc may be activated in atherosclerotic lesions, and mediates vascular apoptosis during the development of atherosclerosis. Abnormal expression and dysfunction of these apoptosis-regulating genes may attenuate or accelerate vascular cell apoptosis and affect the integrity and stability of atherosclerotic plaques. Clarification of the molecular mechanism that regulates apoptosis may help design a new strategy for treatment of atherosclerosis and ii major complication, the acute vascular syndromes.GENG YONG JIAN Center for Cardiovascular Biology and Atherosclerosis Research, Division of Cardiology, Department of Internal Medicine, University of Texas Houston Health Science Center Medical School, 6431 Fannin Street, MSB 6.045, Houston, TX 77030, USA 2001Cell Research2001,11,4:20

5CONVERGENCE OF CASCADE ALGORITHMS AND SMOOTHNESS OF REFINABLE DISTRIBUTIONS显示文摘In this paper, the author at first develops a method to study convergence of the cascadealgorithm in a Banach space without stable assumption on the initial (see Theorem 2.1), andthen applies the previous result on the convergence to characterizing compactly supportedrefinable distributions in fractional Sobolev spaces and Holder continuous spaces (see Theorems3.1, 3.3, and 3.4). Finally the author applies the above characterization to choosing appropriateinitial to guarantee the convergence of the cascade algorithm (see Theorem 4.2).SUN QIYU Department of Mathematics, University of Houston, Houston, TX 77204, USA. 6CARMA3: A novel scaffold protein in regulation of NF-κB activation and diseases显示文摘CARD recruited membrane associated protein 3 (CARMA3) is a novel scaffold protein. It belongs to the CARMA protein family, and is known to activate nuclear factor (NF)- κB. However, it is still unknown which receptor functions upstream of CARMA3 to trigger NF-κB activation. Recently, several studies have demonstrated that CARMA3 serves as an indispensable adaptor protein in NF-κB signaling under some G protein-coupled receptors (GP- CRs), such as lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) receptor and angiotensin (Ang) Ⅱ receptor. Mechanistically, CARMA3 recruits its essential downstream molecules Bcl10 and MALT1 to form the CBM (CARMA3-Bcl10-MALT1) signalosome whereby it triggers NF-κB activation. GPCRs and NF-κB play pivotal roles in the regulation of various cellular functions, therefore, aberrant regulation of the GPCR/NF-κB signaling axis leads to the development of many types of diseases, such as cancer and atherogenesis. Recently, the GPCR/CARMA3/NF-κB signaling axis has been confirmed in these specific diseases and it plays crucial roles in the pathogenesis of disease progression. In ovarian cancer cell lines, knockdown of CARMA3 abolishes LPA receptor-induced NF-κB activation, and reduces LPA-induced ovarian cancer invasion. In vascular smooth cells, downregulation of CARMA3 substantially impairs Ang-Ⅱ-receptor-induced NF-κB activation, and in vivo studies have confirmed that Bcl10- deficient mice are protected from developing Ang-Ⅱ-receptor-induced atherosclerosis and aortic aneurysms. In this review, we summarize the biology of CARMA3, describe the role of the GPCR/CARMA3/NF-κB signaling axis in ovarian cancer and atherogenesis, and speculate about the potential roles of this signaling axis in other types of cancer and diseases. With a significant increase in the identification of LPA- and Ang-Ⅱ-like ligands, such as endothelin-1, which also activates NF-κB via CARMA3 and contributes to the development of many diseases, CARMA3 is emerging as a novel therapeutic target for various types of cancer and other diseases.Jiyuan Sun, Department of Neuro-Oncology, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, TX 77030, United States 2010World Journal of Biological Chemistry2010,1,12:2

8The truncated Second Main Theorem and uniqueness theorems显示文摘In this paper, we first establish a truncated Second Main Theorem for algebraically nondegenerate holomorphic mappings from the complex plane into a complex projective variety V intersecting hypersurfaces. We then prove some uniqueness results for meromorphic mappings. The result of Demailly about a partial solution to the Fujita’s conjecture is used.CHEN ZhiHua 1 , RU Min 2, & YAN QiMing 1 1 Department of Mathematics, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092, China 2 Department of Mathematics, University of Houston, Houston, TX 77204, USA 2010Science China Mathematics2010,53,3:1
9Flatness of CR submanifolds in a sphere显示文摘In Euclidean geometry, for a real submanifold M in E n+a , M is a piece of E n if and only if its second fundamental form is identically zero. In projective geometry, for a complex submanifold M in CP n+a , M is a piece of CP n if and only if its projective second fundamental form is identically zero. In CR geometry, we prove the CR analogue of this fact in this paper.JI ShanYu 1, & YUAN Yuan 2 1 Department of Mathematics, University of Houston, Houston, TX 77204, USA 2 Department of Mathematics, Rutgers University, Piscataway, NJ 08854, USA 2010Science China Mathematics2010,53,3:1
10Perspectives on the origin of microfilaments, microtubules, the relevant chaperonin system and cytoskeletal motors- a commentary on the spiro chaete origin of flagella显示文摘The origin of cytoskeleton and the origin of relevant intracelluar transportation system are big problemsfor understanding the emergence of eukaryotic cells. The present article snmmarized relevant information of evidences and molecular traces on the origin of actin, tubulin, the chaperonin system for folding them, myosins, kinesins, axonemal dyneins and cytoplasmic dyneins. On this basis the authors proposed a seriesof works, which should be done in the future, and indicated the ways for reaching the targets. These targets are mainly: 1) the reconstruction of evolutionary path from MreB protein of archaeal ancestor ofeukaryotic cells to typical actin; 2) the finding of the MreB or MreB-related proteins in crenarchaea andusing them to examine J. A. Lake''s hypothesis on the origin of eukaryote from 'eocytes' (crenarchaea);3) the examinations of the existence and distribution of cytoskeleton made of MreB-related protein withincoccoid archaea, especially in amoeboid archaeon Thermoplasm acidophilnm; 4) using Thermoplasma asa model of archaeal ancestor of eukaryotic cells; 5) the searching for the homolog of ancestral dynein inpresent-day living archaea. During the writing of this article, Margulis'' famous spirochaete hypothesis onthe origin of flagella and cilia was unexpectedly involved and analyzed from aspects of tubulin.% dyneinsand spirochaetes. Actually, spirochaete cannot be reasonably ass,med as the ectosymbiotic ancestor of eukaryotic flagella and cilia, since their swing depends upon large amount of bacterial flagella beneath theflexible outer wall, but not depends upon their intracelluar tubules and the assumed dyneins. In this case,if they had 'evolved' into cilia and lost their bacterial fiagella, they would immediately become immobile! In fact, tubulin and dynein-like proteins have not been found in any spirochaete.JING YAN LI, CHUAN FEN WULaboratory of Cellular and Molecular Evolution, Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kunming, Yunnan 650223, China Department of Molecular Genetics, M. 17Three-dimensional Structure of Rice Dwarf Virus by Electron Cryomicroscopy显示文摘The three-dimensional(3D)structure of intact rice dwarf virus(RDV)has been deter-mined to 2.6 nm resolution by 400kV electron cryomicroscopy and computer reconstructiontechniques. The intact virion of 69.8 nm in diameter was seen to be made up of an outer shellof 6.9 nm in thickness and an inner shell of 2.5 nm in thickness at a diameter of 54 nm.Theouter shell surface forms a T=13 icosahedral lattice with holes at 5-and 6-coordinated posi-tions.The 780 capsomeres at local 3-fold positions appear trimeric. The interface betweenthese two shells could be clearly delineated and the interaction was maintained by a cylindri-cal density whose upper domain connects subunits of the trimeric capsomeres by an interlock-ing mechanism. The 3D structure of inner shell was also reconstructed to 3.3 nm from100kV images of purified inner shell particles, confirming our interpretation of the multilayerstructure of intact RDV.Lu Guangying~(①②) Z.H.Zhou~② J.Jakana~② Cai Deyou~① Chen Shengxiang~③ Wei Xincheng~① Gu Xiaocheng~① W.Chiu~② (①College of Life Sciences,Peking University,Beijing 100871,P.R.China) (②W.M.Keck Center for Computational Biology and Verna & Marts McLean Dept.of Biochem.,Baylor College of Medicine,Houston,TX 77030,USA) (③Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences,Hangzhou 310021,P.R.China) 1995High Technology Letters1995,1,1:0
18Study of BMPR IA downstream genes related to ventricular septum defect显示文摘Cardiac-specific deletion of the receptor IA of bone morphogenetic protein, ALK3, by Cre recombinase driven under the a-MHC promoter is lethal in mid-gestation with defects in the interventricular septum. Analysis of expression of the ALK3 downstream genes is important to identify the signaling pathway for interventricular septum development. The model mice with ALK3 gene knockout via a-MHC-Cre/lox P system were bred. The mRNA expression level of control group was compared with that of test group. ALK3 downstream genes were screened using PCR-select cDNA subtraction and microarray. It was found that the mice with ALK3 gene knockout produced heart defects involving the interventricular septum. The expression of some genes such as platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase and the transcription factor Pax-8 etc was downregulated in the test group. The box protein Pax-8 gene expression was downregulated by 7.1 times in the test group and expressed specifically in the embryonic heart (11.5 days). Furthermore, the expression of the Protein Tyrosine Kinase of Focal Adhesion Kinase subfamily (PTK) and beta subtype protein 14-3-3 was upregulated in the a-MHC-Cre+/-ALK3 F/-mice. PTK gene expression was up-regulated by 3.7 times in the test group. These data provided support that ALK3 gene played an important role during heart development. The platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase and Pax-8 genes could be important ALK3 downstream genes in the BMP signaling pathway during interventncular septum development. PTK and beta subtype protein 14-3-3 might be regulatory factors in this pathway.YANG DY, ZHANG JY, CHEN CX, XIE M, SPERLING S, FANG F, CHEN BX, LI XW, ZHANG HQ.
