Single-cell analysis reveals bronchoalveolar epithelial dysfunction in COVID-19 patients显示文摘Dear Editor,In 2019,a zoonotic coronavirus named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)was identified as the causative agent of Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19).As of 8 June 2020,the World Health Organization(WHO)has reported 6,912,751 globally confirmed cases with 400,469 deaths.Although generally causes mild disease,SARS-CoV-2 infection can result in serious outcomes, including acute lung injury(ALI)and acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS),the leading cause of mortality in patients with comorbidities.Recent autopsy studies of COVID-19 patients revealed mononuclear infiltration and excessive production of mucus in the infected lung, especially in the damaged small airways and alveoli(Bian and Team,2020;Liu et al.,2020). | Jiangping He Shuijiang Cai Huijian Feng Baomei Cai Lihui Lin Yuanbang Mai Yinqiang Fan Airu Zhu Huang Huang Junjie Shi Dingxin Li' Yuanjie Wei Yueping Li Yingying Zhao’ Yuejun Pan He Liu Xiaoneng Mo Xi He Shangtao Cao FengYu Hu Jincun Zhao Jie Wang Nanshan Zhong Xinwen Chen Xilong Deng Jiekai Chen | 2020 | Protein & Cell2020,11,9: | 7
Brood sex ratio in the Yellow-bellied Prinia(Prinia flaviventris)显示文摘Background:The adjustment of sex ratios in birds can occur at the egg and nestling stages. Previous studies showed that the sex ratio was affected by environmental factors and parental condition; it may result in seasonal and ecosystem differences. Methods:In this study, the brood sex ratio of the Yellow-bellied Prinia(Prinia flaviventris) in the Nonggang area, Guangxi, southwestern China, was investigated during the breeding season from May to June in 2013 using PCR amplification from whole-genome DNA extracted from blood samples. A total of 31 nests of Yellow-bellied Prinia, including 132 brood fledglings and 31 pairs, were sampled. Results:The results showed that the brood sex ratio of the Yellow-bellied Prinia was 1:1, and sex ratios of different nests were evenly distributed within the study area. No significant relationship was found between parental quality and nest characteristics with the brood sex ratio. Conclusions:The present study indicated that no brood sex ratio bias in the Yellow-bellied Prinia highlighted the complexity of sex ratio adjustment in birds. In spite of our negative results, the lack of an association between brood sex ratio and parental quality and environmental factors in the Yellow-bellied Prinia provides valuable information on the adjustment of sex ratios in birds. | Zhifeng Ding Fang Ji Qiuli Huang Longwu Wang Aiwu Jiang Chunlan Zhang Yongjun Feng Yuan Tian Huijian Hu Wei Liang | 2017 | Avian Research2017,8,2: | 2
Bird diversity and the conservation value of a new Ramsar site:Guangdong Haifeng Wetlands, China显示文摘Wetlands are critical habitats for birds. However, wetlands are being degraded at an accelerating rate due to global human activity, and a disproportionate fraction of wetland-dependent bird species are in decline. We evaluated the conservation value of a new Ramsar site,Guangdong Haifeng Wetlands,China, for birds,by comparing bird communities(using line transect data)in 3 different districts:Gongping,Dongguan Lian’anwei and Dahu.We recorded 139 species of birds, including 26 species that are protected at a national level.Dahu had the highest species richness and diversity, whereas Dongguan Lian’anwei had the highest abundance of birds and the lowest species diversity. Finally,Gongping had both the lowest species richness and the lowest abundance. The ende-mism of constituent species differed among districts, and the bird communities were complementary. There were significant seasonal differences in the species richness and the number of individuals.Spring had the highest species richness and diversity. The present study identifies the high conservation value of Haifeng Wetlands for both waterbirds and terrestrial birds. Our findings suggest that conservation efforts in Haifeng Wetlands and other wetlands should focus not only on wintering migratory birds, but also on resident birds. To accomplish effective conservation,we should consider the reserve and surrounding wetlands as a whole, incorporating ecological research, education and local economic development. | Junhua HU Zhigang JIANG Chunlan ZHANG Feng XIAO Huijian HU | 2011 | Integrative Zoology2011,6,3: | 1
Nonsmooth dynamic analysis of rigid-flexible interaction collision显示文摘This paper aims to explore the deformation of the collided bodies in multibody systems and to effectively simulate the motion path of colliding bodies.First,we describe the geometrically nonlinear problems of materials by the total Lagrangian formulation.Second,a first-order integration scheme is used to solve the dynamics equations. An algorithm combining the bi-potential method with the node-to-point contact identification is proposed to solve the interface problems of rigid-flexible interaction collision. To observe the collision process more intuitively, the internal software FER/VIEW is introduced to visualize the results. The accuracy is proved by comparing the proposed method with the analytical solution or another numerical solution. Moreover, the proposed method has more numerical robustness, such as occupying less computer storage, saving the computational cost, and broadening the application range of the bi-potential method. | Ling TAO Zhongpan LI Yan LI Huijian CHEN Zhiqiang FENG | 2022 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2022,43,11: | 0
TSCS: A blockchain-based tokenized subtitling crowdsourcing system显示文摘The language barrier is the biggest obstacle for users watching foreign-language videos.Because of this, videos cannot be famous across borders, and their viewership is limited to a single language and culture. The easiest way to solve this problem is to add subtitles in the language of the viewer. However, the current subtitling system lacks incentives, the ability to build a secure transaction environment, and a trusting relationship between video creators and subtitling makers. In response to the above situation,a tokenized subtitling crowdsourcing system(TSCS)based on blockchain and smart contract technologies is proposed. The source files for the subtitles are stored on the inter-planetary file system(IPFS)in the proposed system.Based on the ERC-721 standard, the returned corresponding address and subtitling-related information are made into a non-fungible token(NFT).At the same time, depending on the expected revenue from video view counts, the video token(VT),based on the ERC-777 standard and endorsed by the video platform, will be used as the payment token. The TSCS has two payment strategies:one-time and dividend.Through such a settlement mechanism, the subtitling maker’s revenue is also guaranteed by the code invariance and rule certainty of smart contract deployment. On the other hand, introducing an incentive mechanism for viewers to audit subtitles enables community autonomy, thus increasing the applicability of subtitles and the activity of users. | Huijian Han Peidong Chen Feng Yang Brekhna Brekhna Rui Zhang | 2023 | Blockchain(Research and Applications)2023,4,2: | 0
Single-cell RNA sequencing reveals the developmental program underlying proximal–distal patterning of the human lung at the embryonic stage显示文摘The lung is the primary respiratory organ in human, in which the proximal airway and the distal alveoli are responsible for air conduction and gas exchange, respectively. However, the regulation of proximal–distal patterning at the embryonic stage of human lung development is largely unknown. Here we investigated the early lung development of human embryos at weeks 4–8 post fertilization (Carnegie stages 12–21) using single-cell RNA sequencing, and obtained a transcriptomic atlas of 169,686 cells. We observed discernible gene expression patterns of proximal and distal epithelia at week 4, upon the initiation of lung organogenesis. Moreover, we identified novel transcriptional regulators of the patterning of proximal (e.g., THRB and EGR3) and distal (e.g., ETV1 and SOX6) epithelia. Further dissection revealed various stromal cell populations, including an early-embryonic BDNF+ population, providing a proximal–distal patterning niche with spatial specificity. In addition, we elucidated the cell fate bifurcation and maturation of airway and vascular smooth muscle progenitor cells at the early stage of lung development. Together, our study expands the scope of human lung developmental biology at early embryonic stages. The discovery of intrinsic transcriptional regulators and novel niche providers deepens the understanding of epithelial proximal–distal patterning in human lung development, opening up new avenues for regenerative medicine. | Shangtao Cao Huijian Feng Hongyan Yi Mengjie Pan Lihui Lin Yao Santo Zhang Ziyu Feng Weifang Liang Baomei Cai Qi Li Zhi Xiong Qingmei Shen Minjing Ke Xing Zhao Huilin Chen Qina He Mingwei Min Quanyou Cai He Liu Jie Wang Duanqing Pei Jiekai Chen Yanlin Ma | 2023 | Cell Research2023,33,6: | 0
