1A potential strategy for treating atherosclerosis: improving endothelial function via AMP-activated protein kinase显示文摘Endothelial dysfunction is caused by many factors, such as dyslipidemia, endoplasmic reticulum(ER) stress, and inflammation.It has been demonstrated that endothelial dysfunction is the initial process of atherosclerosis. AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK) is an important metabolic switch that plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism and inflammation. However, recent evidence indicates that AMPK could be a target for atherosclerosis by improving endothelial function. For instance, activation of AMPK inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species induced by mitochondrial dysfunction, ER stress, and NADPH oxidase. Moreover, activation of AMPK inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory factors induced by dyslipidemia and hyperglycemia and restrains production of perivascular adipose tissue-released adipokines. AMPK activation prevents endothelial dysfunction by increasing the bioavailability of nitric oxide. Therefore, we focused on the primary risk factors involved in endothelial dysfunction, and summarize the features of AMPK in the protection of endothelial function, by providing signaling pathways thought to be important in the pathological progress of risk factors.Feng Gao Jiemei Chen Haibo Zhu 2018Science China(Life Sciences)2018,61,9:8
2Synergistic effect of N- and F-codoping on the structure and photocatalytic performance of TiO_2显示文摘Three types of Ti O2 nanostructures were synthesized via a facile hydrolysis method at195 °C. Effects of the preparation method and doping with N and F on the crystal structure and photocatalytic performance of Ti O2 were investigated. The nanomaterials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller porosimetry, ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and fluorescent emission spectra. Their photo-catalytic activity was examined by the photodegradation of methylene blue in aqueous solution under both ultra-violet and visible light irradiation. The results show that nitrogen and fluorine co-doped anatase Ti O2 had the characteristics of a smaller crystalline size, broader light absorption spectrum and lower charge recombination than pure Ti O2. Most importantly, more efficient photocatalytic activity under both ultra-violet and visible light was observed. 4Stress Effects of Chlorate on Longan(Dimocarpus longan Lour.)Trees: Changes in Nitrogen and Carbon Nutrition显示文摘Three-year-old potted longan(Dimocarpus longan Lour.cv.Shixia)trees were treated with potassium chlorate and effects on nitrogen and carbon nutrition were examined.The results showed that potassium chlorate at 10 and 20 g per pot failed to induce flower but suppressed shoot growth and caused leaf chlorosis and drop.The treatment significantly inhibited nitrate reductase but increased nitrogen concentration in the leaves and buds.Concentration of soluble amino acids in the leaves of treated trees increased within 14 days and then declined to the control level,while it increased constantly in buds.In both organs,the amino acid increase was an all-round one,with all the tested 21 amino acids increased.However,soluble proteins in the leaves were slightly increased by chlorate,indicating that de novo synthesis of amino acids was activated.Chlorate reduced photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance but slightly increased CO2 concentration in the mesophyll,suggesting that chlorate treatment damaged photosynthetic apparatus.The damage was reflected by the destruction of thylakoids and grana in the chloroplasts.Chlorate also caused depletion of starch with significant accumulation of soluble sugars in the leaves.Accumulation of sugars and soluble amino acids indicates osmotic adjustment in response to the stress caused by chlorate treatment.LU Jiemei YANG Ruitao WANG Huicong HUANG Xuming 2017Horticultural Plant Journal2017,3,6:4
5Two novel bocaparvovirus species identified in wild Himalayan marmots显示文摘Bocaparvovirus(BOV) is a genetically diverse group of DNA viruses and a possible cause of respiratory, enteric, and neurological diseases in humans and animals. Here, two highly divergent BOVs(tentatively named as Himalayan marmot BOV,HMBOV1 and HMBOV2) were identified in the livers and feces of wild Himalayan marmots in China, by viral metagenomic analysis. Five of 300 liver samples from Himalayan marmots were positive for HMBOV1 and five of 99 fecal samples from these animals for HMBOV2. Their nearly complete genome sequences are 4,672 and 4,887 nucleotides long, respectively, with a standard genomic organization and containing protein-coding motifs typical for BOVs. Based on their NS1, NP1, and VP1,HMBOV1 and HMBOV2 are most closely related to porcine BOV SX/1-2(approximately 77.0%/50.0%, 50.0%/53.0%, and79.0%/54.0% amino acid identity, respectively). Phylogenetic analysis of these three proteins showed that HMBOV1 and HMBOV2 formed two distinctly independent branches in BOVs. According to these results, HMBOV1 and HMBOV2 are two different novel species in the Bocaparvovirus genus. Their identification expands our knowledge of the genetic diversity and evolution of BOVs. 6Cobalt sulfides as efficient catalyst towards oxygen reduction reactions显示文摘Developing low-cost and high performance catalysts to replace precious metal based catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) is one of the most feasible ways to promote the commercial application of fuel cells.In this work,flower-like CoS and octahedral CoS_2 are synthesized by a facile one-pot hydrothermal method without any adjunction of surfactants or follow-up thermolysis,their catalytic performance towards ORR in alkaline electrolyte are comparatively investigated.The results reveal that CoS_2 outperforms CoS owing to the higher electron density around S-S bond of S_2^(2-) in the crystal structure,which promotes the adsorption of oxygen on catalyst surface and facilitates the breakage of O-O bond in oxygen,leading to direct 4-electron transfer ORR.When CoS_2 particles are dispersed on the surface of rGO with large surface area,their ORR performance could be further improved.Shuo Yao Taizhong Huang Hengyi Fang Jiemei Yu Mayilvel Dinesh Meganathan Zhaoxin Cui Xianxia Yuan 2020Chinese Chemical Letters2020,31,2:3
7Applicability of the Welch method for examining self-noise level parameters for broadband seismometers显示文摘Seismometer self-noise levels were determined using Sleeman's three-sensor method in combination with the Welch method for different parameter combinations. The self-noise levels decreased with the increasing segment window length, which is equivalent to the subwindow length, and with the increasing segment overlap rate for different frequency points at a fixed band. After the statistical examination of 9800 different parameter combinations, a zone of reasonable self-noise calculation parameter combinations was identified. 8Rapid and simultaneous analysis of multiple wine quality indicators through near-infrared spectroscopy with twice optimization for wavelength model显示文摘Alcohol,total sugar,total acid,and total phenol contents are the main indicators of wine quality detection.This study aims to establish simultaneous analysis models for the four indicators through near-infrared(NIR)spectroscopy with wavelength optimization.A Norris derivative filter(NDF)platform with multiparameter optimization was established for spectral pretreatment.The optimal parameters(i.e.,derivative order,number of smoothing points,and number of differential gaps)were(2,9,3)for alcohol,(1,19,5)for total sugar,(1,17,11)for total acid,and(1,1,1)for total phenol.The equidistant combinationpartial least squares(EC-PLS)was used for large-scale wavelength screening.The wavelength step-by-step phaseout PLS(WSP-PLS)and exhaustive methods were used for secondary optimization.The final optimization models for the four indicators included 7,10,15,and 13 wavelengths located in the overtone or combination regions,respectively.In an independent validation,the root mean square errors,correlation coefficient for prediction(i.e.,SEP and RP),and ratio of performance-to-deviation(RPD)were 0.41 v/v,0.947,and 3.2 for alcohol;1.48 g/L,0.992,and 6.8 for total sugar;0.68 g/L,0.981,and5.1 for total acid;and 0.181 g/L,0.948,and 2.9 for total phenol.The results indicate high correlation,low error,and good overall prediction performance.Consequently,the established reagent-free NIR analytical models are important in the rapid and real-time quality detection of the wine fermentation process and finished products.The proposed wavelength models provide a valuable reference for designing small dedicated instruments.Jiemei CHEN Sixia LIAO Lijun YAO Tao PAN 2021Frontiers of Optoelectronics2021,14,3:2
9New strategy for virus discovery:viruses identified in human feces in the last decade显示文摘Emerging and re-emerging viruses continue to surface all over the world.Some of these viruses have the potential for rapid and global spread with high morbidity and mortality,such as the SARS coronavirus outbreak.It is extremely urgent and important to identify a novel virus near-instantaneously to develop an active preventive and/or control strategy.As a cultureindependent approach,viral metagenomics has been widely used to investigate highly divergent and completely new viruses in humans,animals,and even environmental samples in the past decade.A new model of Koch's postulates,named the metagenomic Koch's postulates,has provided guidance for the study of the pathogenicity of novel viruses.This review explains the viral metagenomics strategy for virus discovery and describes viruses discovered in human feces in the past 10 years using this approach.This review also addresses issues related to the metagenomic Koch's postulates and the challenges for virus discovery in the future.XIE GuangCheng YU JieMei DUAN ZhaoJun 2013Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,8:2

11Preparation of polysulfone-based block copolymer ultrafiltration membranes by selective swelling and sacrificing nanofillers显示文摘Selective swelling of block copolymers of polysulfone-b-poly(ethylene glycol)is an emerging strategy to prepare new types of polysulfone ultrafiltration membranes.Herein,we prepared nanoporous polysulfoneb-poly(ethylene glycol)ultrafiltration membranes by selective swelling and further promoted their porosity and ultrafiltration performances by using CaCO_(3) nanoparticles as the sacrificial nanofillers.Different contents of CaCO_(3) nanoparticles were doped into the solution of polysulfone-b-poly(ethylene glycol),and thus obtained suspensions were used to prepare both self-supported and bi-layered composite structures.Selective swelling was performed on the obtained block copolymer structures in the solvent pair of ethanol/acetone,producing nanoporous membranes with poly(ethylene glycol)lined along pore walls.The CaCO_(3) nanoparticles dispersed in polysulfoneb-poly(ethylene glycol)were subsequently etched away by hydrochloric acid and the spaces initially occupied by CaCO_(3) provided extra pores to the block copolymer layers.The porosity of the membranes was increased with increasing CaCO_(3) content up to 41%,but further increase in the CaCO_(3) content led to partial collapse of the membrane.The sacrificial CaCO_(3) particles provided extra pores and enhanced the connectivity between adjacent pores.Consequently,the membranes prepared under optimized conditions exhibited up to 80%increase in water permeance with slight decrease in rejection compared to neat membranes without the use of sacrificial CaCO_(3) particles.Shanshan Zhang Jiemei Zhou Zhaogen Wang Jianzhong Xia Yong Wang 2022Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering2022,16,5:1

13Equidistant combination wavelength screening and step-by-step phase-out method for the near-infrared spectroscopic analysis of serum urea nitrogen显示文摘We applied near-infrared(NIR)spectroscopy with chemometrics for the rapid and reagent-fee analysis of serum urea nitrogen(SUN).The modeling is based on the average effect of multiple sample partitions to achieve parameter selection with stability.A multiparameter optimization platform with Norris derivative filter-partial least squares(Norris-PLS)was developed to select the most suitable mode(d=2,s=33,g=15).Using equidistant combination PLS(EC-PLS)with four parameters(initial wavelength I,number of wavelengths N,number of wavelength gaps G and latent variables LV),we performed wavelength screening after eliminating high-absorption wavebands.The optimal EC-PLS parameters were I=1228 nm,N=26,G=16 and LV=12.The root-mean square error(SEP),correlation coefficient(R_(p))for prediction and ratio of performance-to-deviation(RPD)for validation were 1.03 mmol L^(-1),0.992 and 7.6,respectively.We proposed the wavelength step-by-step phase-out PLS(WSP-PLS)to remove redun-dant wavelengths in the top 100 EC-PLS models with improved prediction performance.The combination of 19 wavelengths was identifed as the optimal model for SUN.The SEP,Rp and RPD in validation were 1.01 mmol L^(-1),0.992 and 7.7,respectively.The prediction effect and wavelength complexity were better than those of EC-PIS.Our results showed that NIR spectroscopy combined with the EC-PLS and WSP-PLS methods enabled the high-precision analysis ofSUN.WSP-PLS is a secondary optimization method that can further optimize any wavelength moc odel obtained through other continuous or discrete strategies to establish a simple and better model.Yihui Yang Fenfen Lei Jing Zhang Lijun Yao Jiemei Chen Tao Pan 2019Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences2019,,6:1

16Moving-window bis-correlation coefficients method for visible and near-infrared spectral discriminant analysis with applications显示文摘The moving window bis corelation coefficients(MW BiCC)was proposed and employed for the discriminant analysis of transgenic sugarcane leaves and B-thalassemia with visible and near-infrared(Vis NIR)spectroscopy.The well-performed moving window principal component analysis linear discriminant analysis(MWPCA-LDA)was also conducted for comparison.A total of 306 transgenic(positive)and 150 nont ransgenic(negative)leave samples of sugarcane were collected and divided to calibration,prediction,and validation.The diffuse reflection spectra were corected using Savitzky-Golay(SG)smoothing with first-order derivative(d=1),third-degree polynomial(p=3)and 25 smpothing points(m=25).The selected waveband was 736-1054nm with MW-BiCC,and the positive and negative validation recognition rates(V_REC^(+),VREC^(-))were 100%,98.0%,which achieved the same effect as MWPCA-LDA.Another example,the 93 B-thalassemia(positive)and 148 nonthalassemia(negative)of human hemolytic samples were colloctod.The transmission spectra were corrected using SG smoothing withd=1,p=3 and m=53.Using M W-BiCC,many best wavebands were selected(e.g.,1116-1146,17941848 and 22842342nm).The V_REC^(+)and V_REC^(-)were both 100%,which achieved the same effect as MW-PCA-LDA.Importantly,the BICC only required ca lculating correlation cofficients between the spectrum of prediction sample and the average spectra of two types of calibration samples.Thus,BiCC was very simple in algorithm,and expected to obtain more applications.The results first confirmed the feasibility of distinguishing B-thalassemia and normal control samples by NIR spectroscopy,and provided a promising simple tool for large population thalassemia screening.Lijun Yao Weiqun Xu Tao Pan Jiemei Chen 2018Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences2018,,2:1
