| 3 | Alterations of natural killer cells in traumatic brain injury显示文摘To investigate the relationship between natural killer(NK) cells and traumatic brain injury(TBI), we tracked an established phenotype of circulating NK cells at several time points in patients with different grades of TBI. In serial peripheral blood samples, NK cells were prospectively measured by flow cytometry of CD3-CD56+ lymphocytes. Compared to healthy controls, TBI patients had reductions in both the percentage and the absolute number of NK cells. Furthermore, the magnitude of NK cell reduction correlated with the degree of TBI severity at several time points. That is, NK cell population size was independently associated with lower Glasgow Coma Scale scores. In addition, at some time points, a positive correlation was found between the NK cell counts and Glasgow Outcome Scale scores. | 4 | A novel graphene oxide-carbon nanotubes anchored α-FeOOH hybrid activated persulfate system for enhanced degradation of Orange Ⅱ显示文摘Persulfate activation has been applied as one of the efficient advanced oxidation processes(AOPs) to remediate polluted environments. In this study, a novel α-FeOOH anchored by graphene oxide(GO)-carbon nanotubes(CNTs) aerogel(α-FeOOH@GCA) nanocomposite activated persulfate system(α-FeOOH@GCA + K2S2O8) was applied for decolorization of Orange Ⅱ(OⅡ). The decolorization of OⅡ was remarkably enhanced to a level of ~ 99% in this system compared with that of pristine α-FeOOH(~ 44%) or GO-CNTs(~18%). The enhanced catalytic activity of α-FeOOH@GCA was due to the formation of a heterojunction byα-FeOOH and GO-CNTs as confirmed by the presence of Fe–O–C chemical bonds. The degradation intermediates of OⅡ were comprehensively identified. The proposed degradation pathway of OⅡ begins with the destruction of the conjugated structures of OⅡ by the dominant reactive oxygen species, surface-bound SO4·-. The decolorization efficiency of OⅡ by the α-FeOOH@GCA activated persulfate system decreased from the first to third cycle of recycling. Ultraviolet(UV) irradiation or introduction of a small amount of Fe2+ could restore the activation of this system. | 5 | Telmisartan prevents high-fat diet-induced hypertension and decreases perirenal fat in rats显示文摘We sought to investigate the effects of telmisartan on high-fat diet-induced hypertension and to explore the possible underlying mechanisms.Rats receiving high-fat diet were randomly divided into two groups,the telmisartan group(n = 9) and the high-fat diet group(n = 10).The control group consisted of age-matched rats on a regular diet(n = 10).At the end of the treatment,the body weight,blood pressure,insulin sensitivity and serum adiponectin levels of all rats were examined,and their visceral fat was extracted and weighed.Our results showed that telmisartan improved insulin resistance and dyslipidemia and increased serum adiponectin levels.Telmisartan also lowered both systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure,and decreased the accumulation of perirenal fat associated with high-fat diet.Furthermore,telmisartan increased adiponectin mRNA expression in the perirenal fat.Correlation analysis showed that both systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were positively correlated with perirenal fat.These effects of telmisartan may be mediated through decreases in perirenal fat and contributed to the improvement of perirenal fat function.Our findings suggested a strong link between perirenal fat and high-fat diet-induced hypertension,and identified telmisartan as a potential drug for the treatment of obesity-related hypertension. | Yaping Wang Yan Song Meng Suo Xin Jin Gang Tian | 2012 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2012，26，3： | 3 |

| 10 | Arsenic exposure and glutamate-induced gliotransmitter release from astrocytes显示文摘The present study used cultures of primary astrocytes, isolated from neonatal rats, to verify the hypothesis that arsenite-induced neurotoxicity can influence neuronal function by altering glutamate-induced gliotransmitter release. Primary astrocytes were exposed to 0, 2.5, 5, 10, 20 or 30 μM arsenite for 24 hours. Cell viability and morphological observations revealed that 5 μM arsenic exposure could induce cytotoxicity. Cells were then cultured in the presence of 0, 2.5, 5, or 10 μM arsenite for 24 hours and stimulated with 25 μM glutamate for 10 minutes. Results showed that [Ca2+]i in astrocytes exposed to 5 and 10 μM arsenite was significantly increased and levels of D-serine, γ-aminobutyric acid and glycine in cultures exposed to 2.5-10 μM arsenite were also increased. However, glutamate levels in the media were significantly increased only after treatment with 10 μM arsenite.
