1A Possible Dynamic Mechanism for Rapid Production of the Extreme Hourly Rainfall in Zhengzhou City on 20 July 2021显示文摘In this study,the unprecedented extreme rainfall event during 19-20 July 2021,which caused devastating flooding in Zhengzhou City and its nearby areas,is examined based on observational data analysis and WRF model 40-h simulations on 1-km horizontal resolution.The results show that the model successfully reproduces(i)major synopticscale weather systems(i.e.,the western Pacific subtropical high,the Tibetan high,two typhoons,and the Huang-Huai cyclone),(ii)convective initiation along the east to north edge of the Songshan Mountain,where orographic lifting is obvious,and(iii)subsequent formation of the convective storm producing the extreme rainfall in Zhengzhou.In particular,the model generates the maximum rainfall rate of 233 mm h^(-1)and 40-h accumulated rainfall of 704 mm,corresponding well to the observed extreme values of 201.9 mm h^(-1)and 818 mm,at nearly observed timing and location.Importantly,the model reproduces an intense quasi-stationary,well-organized meso-γ-scale convective system,surrounded by an arc-shaped convergence zone,allowing the development of convective updrafts in a three-quarter circle around the convective system,in a way similar to“multidirectional pumping,”attracting all associated precipitation overlaid and concentrated into the same trailing region to generate the extreme hourly rainfall over Zhengzhou.Our study emphasizes the significant contribution of the unique dynamic structure of the well-organized meso-γ-scale convective system to the record-high hourly rainfall.A possible dynamic mechanism for short-time extreme rainfall production is proposed.That is,the arc-shaped convergence zone of the mesoscale convective system,acting like multidirectional lifting pumps,transports precipitation from different directions into the same region,and thus produces the extreme rainfall.The results gained herein may shed new light on better understanding and forecasting of short-time extreme rainfall.Jinfang YIN Haodong GU Xudong LIANG Miao YU Jisong SUN Yanxin XIE Feng LI Chong WU 2022Journal of Meteorological Research2022,36,1:17
2A rapid approach to convective aeroheating prediction of hypersonic vehicles显示文摘A rapid approach to hypersonic aeroheating predictions in the stagnation region and downstream is developed in the present paper.The engineering method is used to calculate inviscid hypersonic flowfields to reduce time cost,and a combination of the mass flow balance technique and the axisymmetric analog is proposed to account for the entropy swallowing effects.A three-dimensional linear method is derived to fit the vehicle surface flowfields.Then a new axisymmetric analog method based on linear flowfields and linear surface equations is developed,with the complexity and computational cost reduced dramatically.In the stagnation region,an implicit surface fitting is introduced to approximate the primary curvatures and a robust aeroheating prediction method is constructed.The proposed approach is verified on a variety of configurations including spherically blunted cone,double ellipsoid and aerospace vehicle.Numerical results indicate the followings:1)The approach predicts aeroheating in about one second and the results agree well with CFD simulations and wind-tunnel measurements;2)with the help of entropy correction,the precision is further improved in the streamline diverging regions on the vehicle surface,while little improvement is found after entropy correction in the regions where the streamlines do not diverge.ZHAO JiSong GU LiangXian MA HongZhong 2013Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,8:11

4Investigation into the Formation, Structure, and Evolution of an EF4 Tornado in East China Using a High-Resolution Numerical Simulation显示文摘Devastating tornadoes in China have received growing attention in recent years, but little is known about their formation, structure, and evolution on the tornadic scale. Most of these tornadoes develop within the East Asian monsoon regime, in an environment quite different from tornadoes in the U.S. In this study, we used an idealized, highresolution(25-m grid spacing) numerical simulation to investigate the deadly EF4(Enhanced Fujita scale category 4)tornado that occurred on 23 June 2016 and claimed 99 lives in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. A tornadic supercell developed in the simulation that had striking similarities to radar observations. The violent tornado in Funing County was reproduced, exceeding EF4(74 ms–1), consistent with the on-site damage survey. It was accompanied by a funnel cloud that extended to the surface, and exhibited a double-helix vorticity structure. The signal of tornado genesis was found first at the cloud base in the pressure perturbation field, and then developed both upward and downward in terms of maximum vertical velocity overlapping with the intense vertical vorticity centers. The tornado's demise was found to accompany strong downdrafts overlapping with the intense vorticity centers. One of the interesting findings of this work is that a violent surface vortex was able to be generated and maintained, even though the simulation employed a free-slip lower boundary condition. 6Sizing optimization for island microgrid with pumped storage system considering demand response显示文摘Currently, small islands are facing an energy supply shortage, which has led to considerable concern.Establishing an island microgrid is a relatively good solution to the problem. However, high investment costs restrict its application. In this paper, micro pumped storage(MPS) is used as an energy storage system(ESS) for islands with good geographical conditions, and deferrable appliance is treated as the virtual power source which can be used in the planning and operational processes.Household acceptance of demand response(DR) is indicated by the demand response participation degree(DRPD), and a sizing optimization model for considering the demand response of household appliances in an island microgrid is proposed. The particle swarm optimization(PSO) is used to obtain the optimal sizing of all major devices. In addition, the battery storage(BS) scheme is used as the control group. 8Color change characteristics of two shear-sensitive liquid crystal mixtures (BCN/192, BN/R50C) and their application in surface shear stress measurements显示文摘A previously determined surface shear stress measurement technique using shear-sensitive liquid crystal (SSLC) coating is extended for use in wind tunnel-like conditions. Simple and common everyday equipment is used in the measurement; in particular a tungsten halogen light bulb provides illumination. The color change characteristics of two SSLC mixtures, BCN192 and BN/ R50C, are investigated. BCN/192 is found sensitive to both magnitude and direction of the shear stress at different shear stress levels with little noise, and is suitable for surface shear stress distribution measurements. The spatial shear stress vector distribution beneath a tangential jet is obtained using BCN/192, although the magnitude is not fully calibrated. BN/R50C is found to be sensitive to shear stress magnitude, but only slightly sensitive to shear stress direction at both low and high levels. Moreover, jumps in the reflected hue are found when the viewing orientation is perpendicular to the shear stress direction. 9Quantitative Precipitation Forecast Experiment Based on Basic NWP Variables Using Deep Learning显示文摘The quantitative precipitation forecast(QPF)performance by numerical weather prediction(NWP)methods depends fundamentally on the adopted physical parameterization schemes(PS).However,due to the complexity of the physical mechanisms of precipitation processes,the uncertainties of PSs result in a lower QPF performance than their prediction of the basic meteorological variables such as air temperature,wind,geopotential height,and humidity.This study proposes a deep learning model named QPFNet,which uses basic meteorological variables in the ERA5 dataset by fitting a non-linear mapping relationship between the basic variables and precipitation.Basic variables forecasted by the highest-resolution model(HRES)of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts(ECMWF)were fed into QPFNet to forecast precipitation.Evaluation results show that QPFNet achieved better QPF performance than ECMWF HRES itself.The threat score for 3-h accumulated precipitation with depths of 0.1,3,10,and 20 mm increased by 19.7%,15.2%,43.2%,and 87.1%,respectively,indicating the proposed performance QPFNet improved with increasing levels of precipitation.The sensitivities of these meteorological variables for QPF in different pressure layers were analyzed based on the output of the QPFNet,and its performance limitations are also discussed.Using DL to extract features from basic meteorological variables can provide an important reference for QPF,and avoid some uncertainties of PSs.Kanghui ZHOU Jisong SUN Yongguang ZHENG Yutao ZHANG 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,9:3

11Optimization of Extraction Process of Yingshan Cloud Tea Polysaccharides by Response Surface Methodology显示文摘[Objectives] This study was conducted to explore the optimal process conditions for hot water extraction of polysaccharides from Yingshan cloud tea. [Methods] Based on single factor experiments, with the extraction rate of polysaccharides as the response value and liquid-to-solid ratio, extraction temperature and extraction time as investigation factors, the optimum extraction process for tea polysaccharides from Yingshan cloud tea was determined by Box-Behnken central componse design and response surface analysis method. [Results] Under the conditions of the liquid-to-solid ratio of 50∶1(ml/g), the extraction temperature at 94 ℃ and the extraction time of 210 min, the extraction rate of polysaccharides from Yingshan cloud tea reached 2.16%. 12Windtunnel studies of surface shear stress vector distribution measurement using shear sensitive liquid crystal coatings显示文摘Shear sensitive liquid crystal coating (SSLCC) can measure surface shear stress vector distribution efficiently with a high spa-tial resolution. The purpose of the present paper is to modify and extend the surface shear stress measurement technique de-termined by Reda et al. to wind tunnel studies. All the facilities employed in the technique are very common and simple. The measurement technique is applied to surface flow beneath a tangential jet and surface flow in a turbulence wedge generated by a small cylinder in windtunnel flow. 14On the Diurnal Cycle of Heavy Rainfall over the Sichuan Basin during 10–18 August 2020显示文摘A sustained heavy rainfall event occurred over the Sichuan basin in southwest China during 10–18 August 2020,showing pronounced diurnal rainfall variations with nighttime peak and afternoon minimum values,except on the first day.Results show that the westward extension of the anomalously strong western Pacific subtropical high was conducive to the maintenance of a southerly low-level jet(LLJ)in and to the southeast of the basin,which favored continuous water vapor transport and abnormally high precipitable water in the basin.The diurnal cycle of rainfall over the basin was closely related to the periodic oscillation of the LLJ in both wind speed and direction that was caused by the combination of inertial oscillation and terrain thermal forcing.The nocturnally enhanced rainfall was produced by moist convection mostly initiated during the evening hours over the southwest part of the basin where high convective available potential energy with moister near-surface moist air was present.The convective initiation took place as cold air from either previous precipitating clouds from the western Sichuan Plateau or a larger-scale northerly flow met a warm and humid current from the south.It was the slantwise lifting of the warm,moist airflow above the cold air,often facilitated by southwest vortices and quasi-geostrophic ascent,that released the convective instability and produced heavy rainfall.Rudi XIA Yali LUO Da-Lin ZHANG Mingxin LI Xinghua BAO Jisong SUN 2021Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2021,38,12:2
15Preparation of high selectivity silicalite-1 membranes by two-step in situ hydrothermal synthesis显示文摘High selectivity silicalite-1 membranes were synthesized on silica tubes by in situ hydrothermal synthesis. Using a two-step synthesis, a membrane with a separation factor of 99 was prepared for separating an ethanol/water mixture at 60°C. The average (n = 4) flux and separation factor of the membranes were 0.47 kg m-2 h-1 and 89, respectively. The membranes exhibited high reproducibility, and the relative standard deviation of the average (n = 4) flux and separation factor were only 5.3% and 9.2%, respectively.
