| 1 | Advanced characterization of pores and fractures in coals by nuclear magnetic resonance and X-ray computed tomography显示文摘This paper demonstrates capabilities of low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and microfocus X-ray computed tomography (μCT) in advanced, nondestructive, and quantitative characterization of pore types, producible porosity, pore structure, and spatial disposition of pore-fractures in coals. Results show that the NMR transverse relaxation time (T2) at 0.5–2.5, 20–50, and >100 ms correspond to pores of <0.1 μm, >0.1 μm, and fractures, respectively. A much higher T2 spectrum peak reflects a much better development of pores (or fractures) corresponding to the T2, and vice versa. Three basic components in coals, i.e., the pores (or fractures), coal matrix, and minerals have their distinctive range of CT numbers. Among these, the CT number of pores is commonly less than 600 HU. The producible porosity, which is a determination of permeability, can be calculated by T2 cutoff value (T2C) of coal NMR. The coal pore structure can be efficiently estimated by the newly proposed 'T2C based model'. | 2 | Combined interventional therapies of hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most commonmalignancies in the world, responsible for an estimated one million deaths annually. It has a poor prognosis due to its rapid infiltrating growth and complicating liver cirrhosis.Surgical resection, liver transplantation and cryosurgery are considered the best curative options, achieving a high rate of complete response, especially in patients with small HCC and good residual liver function. In nonsurgery, regional interventional therapies have led to a major breakthrough in the management of unresectable HCC, which include transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI), radiofrequency ablation (RFA), microwave coagulation therapy (MCT), laser-induced thermotherapy (LITT), etc. As a result of the technical development of locoregional approaches for HCC during the recent decades,the range of combined interventional therapies has been continuously extended. | 3 | Combined transarterial chemoembolization and arterial administration of Bletilla striata in treatment of liver tumor in rats显示文摘AIM: To evaluate and compare the effect of combined transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and arterial administration of Bletilla striata (a Chinese traditionalmedicine against liver tumor) versusTACE alone for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in ACI rats.METHODS: Subcapsular implantation of a solid Morris hepatoma 3 924A (2 mm3) in the liver was carried out in 30 male ACI rats. Tumor volume (V1) was measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on day 13 after implantation. The following different agents of interventional treatment were injected after retrograde catheterization via gastroduodenal artery (on day 14), namely, (A) TACE (0.1 mg mitomycin +0.1 mi Lipiodol) + Bletilla striata (1.0 mg) (n= 10); (B) TACE + Blebilla stnata(1.0 mg) + ligation of hepatic artery (n=10),(C) TACE alone (control group, n=10). Tumor volume (V2)was assessed by MRI (on day 13 after treatment) and the tumor growth ratio (V2/V1) was calculated.RESULTS: The mean tumor volume before (V1) and after (V2) treatment was 0.0355 cm3 and 0.2248 cm3 in group A,0.0374 cm3 and 0.0573 cm3 in group B, 0.0380 cm3 and 0.3674 cm3 in group C, respectively. The mean ratio (V2/V1)was 6.2791 in group A, 1.5324 in group B and 9.1382 in group C. Compared with the control group (group C), group B showed significant inhibition of tumor growth (P<0.01),while group A did not (P>0.05). | 4 | Adsorption/desorption of toluene on a hypercrosslinked polymeric resin in a highly humid gas stream显示文摘In many sources of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), large amounts of water vapor come from the air and the reactors. The relative humidity (RH) of exhaust gas is normally >60% and is supersaturated. Maintaining the property of adsorbent on VOCs in a highly humid gas stream is a serious industrial problem. In this study, the adsorption/desorption behavior of toluene in a micro-mesoporous polymeric resin was investigated in a highly humid environment to explore the influence of abound water vapor on resin adsorption and regeneration. This resin could selectively adsorb toluene at an RH of 80%, and its adsorption property was unaffected by the presence of water vapor. In the case of humidity saturation, the resin displayed a high adsorption capacity at a moisture content of <30%. Therefore, the polymer resin is an excellent water-resistant adsorbent of VOCs. In the regenerative experiment, the resin maintained its original adsorption capability after four adsorption/ desorption cycles of toluene purging with nitrogen gas at 120℃. | 6 | Scale-Dependent Nature of Porosity and Pore Size Distribution in Lacustrine Shales: An Investigation by BIB-SEM and X-Ray CT Methods显示文摘Due to heterogeneous pore distributions within shales,petrophysical properties of shales determined by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray computed tomography(CT) methods strongly depend on the observed domain size(analysis scale). In this paper,the influence of the analysis scale on areal and bulk porosities and pore size distribution(PSD) for lacustrine shales from the Dongying sag of Bohai Bay Basin,China were investigated using broad ion beam(BIB)-SEM and X-ray CT methods.The BIB-SEM cross-sections with high imaging resolution(10 nm/pixel) and a large field of view(>1 mm2)mainly describe the 2 D nanoscale pore system in the two shales(samples F41#-2 and Y556#-1),while CTbased 3 D reconstructions with resolutions of 0.42(F41#-1) and 0.5 μm/pixel(H172#-1) reflect the 3 D submicron pore system. The results indicate that the areal(bulk) porosity exhibits a multiple power-law distribution with increasing analysis area(volume),which can be used to extrapolate the porosity of a given area(volume). Based on SEM and CT investigations,the sizes of the minimum representative elementary areas(REAs) and volumes(REVs) were determined respectively,which are closely associated with the heterogeneousness of the pore system. Minimum REAs are proposed to be 2.93×10~4(F41#-2) and 0.91×10~4μm2(Y556#-1),and minimum REVs are 0.016(F41#-1) and 0.027 mm^3(H172#-1). As the analyzed areas(volumes) are larger than the minimum REA(REV),obtained 2 D(3 D) PSDs are comparable to each other and can be considered to reflect the shale PSD. | 7 | Pore structure of selected Chinese coals with heating and pressurization treatments显示文摘Pore structure of Chinese coals with heating and pressurization treatments was studied using small angle X-ray scattering(SAXS),N2adsorption/desorption isotherms and scanning electron microscope(SEM).SAXS was performed for some samples after heat treatment at seven elevated temperatures from 25 to 250°C at 0 MPa and for other samples with hydrostatic pressure treatment at 0,5,10,15 and 20 MPa at the room temperature.The results show that N2adsorption isotherm together with SAXS could be a comprehensive method to evaluate the pore shape and the pore size distribution:the pore shapes are generally spherical for low rank coal and they are mainly ellipsoidal for high rank coal.All these measurements were then interpreted using the fractal theory to reveal relationship between surface fractals and coal rank,and the evolution of surface fractals under heating and pressurization treatments.The results show that surface fractal dimension(Ds)changes with different treating temperature and pressure and maximum vitrinite reflectance(Ro,m).Especially in the bituminous stage,Ds shows an increasing trend with Ro,m under varied temperatures.Moreover,Ds shows an increasing trend with increasing temperature before 200°C,and a decreasing trend after 200°C.Furthermore,the results show that Ds has a more complex relationship with Ro,m under varied treating temperature than that under varied treating pressure. | CAI YiDong LIU DaMeng PAN ZheJun YAO YanBin LI JunQian QIU YongKai | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,7: | 5 |
| 8 | Carbon isotope fractionation during shale gas transport: Mechanism, characterization and significance显示文摘The gas in-place(GIP)content and the ratio of adsorbed/free gas are two key parameters for the assessment of shale gas resources and have thus received extensive attention.A variety of methods have been proposed to solve these issues,however none have gained widespread acceptance.Carbon isotope fractionation during the methane transport process provides abundant information,serving as an effective method for differentiating the gas transport processes of adsorbed gas and free gas and ultimately evaluating the two key parameters.In this study,four stages of methane carbon isotope fractionation were documented during a laboratory experiment that simulated gas transport through shale.The four stages reflect different transport processes:the free gas seepage stage(Ⅰ),transition stage(Ⅱ),adsorbed gas desorption stage(Ⅲ)and concentration diffusion stage(Ⅳ).Combined with the results of decoupling experiments,the isotope fractionation characteristics donated by the single effect(seepage,adsorption-desorption and diffusion)were clearly revealed.We further propose a technique integrating the Amoco curve fit(ACF)method and carbon isotope fractionation(CIF)to determine the dynamic change in adsorbed and free gas ratios during gas production.We find that the gases produced in stage Ⅰ are primarily composed of free gas and that carbon isotope ratios of methane(δ13C1)are stable and equal to the ratios of source gas(13C 10).In stage Ⅱ,the contribution of free gas decreases,while the proportion of adsorbed gas increases,and the δ13C1 gradually becomes lighter.With the depletion of free gas,the adsorbed gas contribution in stage Ⅲ reaches 100%,and the δ13C1 becomes heavier.Finally,in stage Ⅳ,the desorbed gas remaining in the pore spaces diffuses out under the concentration difference,and the δ13C1 becomes lighter again and finally stabilizes.In addition,a kinetic model for the quantitative description of isotope fractionation during desorption and diffusion was established. | Wenbiao LI Shuangfang LU Junqian LI Pengfei ZHANG Siyuan WANG Wenjun FENG Yongbo WEI | 2020 | Science China Earth Sciences2020,63,5: | 4 |

| 10 | Effects of stress dependent electrochemical reaction on voltage hysteresis of lithium ion batteries显示文摘Intercalation of lithium ions into the electrodes of lithium ion batteries is affected by the stress of active materials, leading to energy dissipation and stress dependent voltage hysteresis. A reaction-diffusion-stress coupling model is established to investigate the stress effects under galvanostatic and potentiostatic operations. It is found from simulations that the stress hysteresis contributes to the voltage hysteresis and leads to the energy dissipation. In addition, the stress induced voltage hysteresis is small in low rate galvanostatic operations but extraordinarily significant in high rate cases. In potentiostatic operations, the stresses and stress induced overpotentials increase to a peak value very soon after the operation commences and decays all the left time. Therefore,a combined charge-discharge operation is suggested, i.e., first the galvanostatic one and then the potentiostatic one. | 12 | Agricultural Risk Factors Influence Microbial Ecology in Honghu Lake显示文摘Agricultural activities, including stock-farming, planting industry, and fish aquaculture,can affect the physicochemical and biological characters of freshwater lakes. However, the effects of pollution producing by agricultural activities on microbial ecosystem of lakes remain unclear.Hence, in this work, we selected Honghu Lake as a typical lake that is influenced by agriculture activities. We collected water and sediment samples from 18 sites, which span a wide range of areas from impacted and less-impacted areas. We performed a geospatial analysis on the composition of microbial communities associated with physicochemical properties and antibiotic pollution of samples. The co-occurrence networks of water and sediment were also built and analyzed. Our results showed that the microbial communities of impacted and less-impacted samples of water were largely driven by the concentrations of TN, TP, NO_3^--N, and NO_2^--N, while those of sediment were affected by the concentrations of Sed-OM and Sed-TN. Antibiotics have also played important roles in shaping these microbial communities: the concentrations of oxytetracycline and tetracycline clearly reflected the variance in taxonomic diversity and predicted functional diversity between impacted and less-impacted sites in water and sediment samples, respectively. Furthermore, for samples from both water and sediment, large differences of network topology structures between impacted and less-impacted were also observed. | 14 | Two-way coupled analysis of lithium diffusion and diffusion induced finite elastoplastic bending of bilayer electrodes in lithium-ion batteries显示文摘A fully coupling model for the diffusion induced finite elastoplastic bending of bilayer electrodes in lithium-ion batteries is proposed. The effect of the mechanical stress on the lithium diffusion is accounted for by the mechanical part of the chemical potential derived from the Gibbs free energy along with the logarithmic stress and strain. Eight dimensionless parameters, governing the stress-assisted diffusion and the diffusion induced elastoplastic bending, are identified. It is found that the finite plasticity starting from the interface of the bilayer increases the chemical potential gradient and thereby facilitates the lithium diffusion. The full plastic flow makes the abnormal lithium concentration distribution possible, i.e., the concentration at the lithium inlet can be lower than the concentration at the interface(downstream). | 15 | PREDICTIVE APPROACH TO FAILURE OF COMPOSITE LAMINATES WITH EQUIVALENT CONSTRAINT MODEL显示文摘This work established a new analytical model based upon the equivalent constraint model(ECM)to constitute an available predictive approach for analyzing the ultimate strength and simulating the stress/strain response of general symmetric laminates subjected to combined loading,by taking into account the effect of matrix cracking.The ECM was adopted to mainly predict the in-plane stiffness reduction of the damaged laminate.Basic consideration that progressive matrix cracking provokes a re-distribution of the stress fields on each lamina within laminates, which greatly deteriorates the stress distributed in the primary load-bearing lamina and leads to the final failure of the laminates,is introduced for the construction of the failure criterion.
