| 1 | In-situ synthesis of TiC/Fe alloy composites with high strength and hardness by reactive sintering显示文摘Fe alloy composites reinforced with in-situ titanium carbide(Ti C) particles were fabricated by reactive sintering using different reactant C/Ti ratios of 0.8,0.9,1 and 1.1 to investigate the microstructure and mechanical properties of in-situ Ti C/Fe alloy composites.The microstructure showed that the in-situ synthesized Ti C particles were spherical with a size of 1–3 μm,irrespective of C/Ti ratio.The stoichiometry of in-situ Ti C increased from 0.85 to 0.88 with increasing C/Ti ratio from 0.8 to 0.9,but remained almost unchanged for C/Ti ratios between 0.9 and 1.1 due to the same driving force for carbon diffusion in Ti Cxat the common sintering temperature.The in-situ Ti C/Fe alloy composite with C/Ti = 0.9 showed improved mechanical properties compared with other C/Ti ratios because the presence of excess carbon(C/Ti = 1 and 1.1) resulted in unreacted carbon within the Fe alloy matrix,while insufficient carbon(C/Ti = 0.8)caused the depletion of carbon from the Fe alloy matrix,leading to a significant decrease in hardness.This study presents that the maximized hardness and superior strength of in-situ Ti C/Fe alloy composites can be achieved by microstructure control and stoichiometric analysis of the in-situ synthesized Ti C particles,while maintaining the ductility of the composites,compared to those of the unreinforced Fe alloy.Therefore,we anticipate that the in-situ synthesized Ti C/Fe alloy composites with enhanced mechanical properties have great potential in cutting tool,mold and roller material applications. | Junho Lee Dongju Lee Myung Hoon Song Wonhyuk Rhee Ho Jin Ryu Soon Hyung Hong | 2018 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2018,34,8: | 8 |
| 2 | Multiple-patterning colloidal lithography-implemented scalable manufacturing of heat-tolerant titanium nitride broadband absorbers in the visible to near-infrared显示文摘Broadband perfect absorbers have been intensively researched for decades because of their near-perfect absorption optical property that can be applied to diverse applications. Unfortunately, achieving large-scale and heat-tolerant absorbers has been remained challenging work because of costly and time-consuming lithography methods and thermolability of materials, respectively. Here, we demonstrate a thermally robust titanium nitride broadband absorber with >95% absorption efficiency in the visible and near-infrared region (400–900 nm). A relatively large-scale (2.5 cm × 2.5 cm) absorber device is fabricated by using a fabrication technique of multiple-patterning colloidal lithography. The optical properties of the absorber are still maintained even after heating at the temperatures >600 ∘C. | 3 | Molecular Mechanism of the Specificity of Protein Import into Chloroplasts and Mitochondria in Plant Cells显示文摘Plants possess both types of endosymbiotic organelles, chloroplasts and mitochondria. Transit peptides and presequences function as signal sequences for specific import into chloroplasts and mitochondria, respectively. However, how these highly similar signal sequences confer the protein import specificity remains elusive. Here, we show that mitochondrial- or chloroplast-specific import involves two distinct steps, specificity determination and translocation across envelopes, which are mediated by the N-terminal regions and functionally interchangeable C-terminal regions, respectively, of transit peptides and presequences. A domain harboring multiple-arginine and hydrophobic sequence motifs in the N-terminal regions of presequences was identified as the mitochondrial specificity factor. The presence of this domain and the absence of arginine residues in the N-terminal regions of otherwise common targeting signals confers specificity of protein import into mitochondria and chloroplasts, respectively. AtToc159, a chloroplast import receptor, also contributes to determining chloroplast import specificity. | 4 | S100A4 released from highly bone-metastatic breast cancer cells plays a critical role in osteolysis显示文摘Bone destruction induced by breast cancer metastasis causes severe complications,including death,in breast cancer patients.Communication between cancer cells and skeletal cells in metastatic bone microenvironments is a principal element that drives tumor progression and osteolysis.Tumor-derived factors play fundamental roles in this form of communication.To identify soluble factors released from cancer cells in bone metastasis,we established a highly bone-metastatic subline of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells.This subline(mtMDA)showed a markedly elevated ability to secrete S100A4 protein,which directly stimulated osteoclast formation via surface receptor RAGE.Recombinant S100A4 stimulated osteoclastogenesis in vitro and bone loss in vivo.Conditioned medium from mtMDA cells in which S100A4 was knocked down had a reduced ability to stimulate osteoclasts.Furthermore,the S100A4 knockdown cells elicited less bone destruction in mice than the control knockdown cells.In addition,administration of an anti-S100A4 monoclonal antibody(mAb)that we developed attenuated the stimulation of osteoclastogenesis and bone loss by mtMDA in mice.Taken together,our results suggest that S100A4 released from breast cancer cells is an important player in the osteolysis caused by breast cancer bone metastasis. | Haemin Kim Bongjun Kim Sang Il Kim Hyung Joon Kim Brian YRyu Junho Chung Zang Hee Lee Hong-Hee Kim | 2019 | Bone Research2019,7,4: | 2 |
