Chitosan and chemically modified chitosan beads for acid dyes sorption显示文摘The capabilities of chitosan and chitosan-EGDE(ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether) beads for removing Acid Red 37(AR 37) and Acid Blue 25(AB 25) from aqueous solution were examined.Chitosan beads were cross-linked with EGDE to enhance its chemical resistance and mechanical strength.Experiments were performed as a function of pH,agitation period and concentration of AR 37 and AB 25.It was shown that the adsorption capacities of chitosan for both acid dyes were comparatively higher than those of chitosan-EGDE.This is mainly because cross-linking using EGDE reduces the major adsorption sites-NH3+ on chitosan.Langmuir isotherm model showed the best conformity compared to Freundlich and BET.The kinetic experimental data agreed very well to the pseudo second-order kinetic model. The desorption study revealed that after three cycles of adsorption and desorption by NaOH and HCl,both adsorbents retained their promising adsorption abilities.FT-IR analysis proved that the adsorption of acid dyes onto chitosan-based adsorbents was a physical adsorption. Results also showed that chitosan and chitosan-EGDE beads were favourable adsorbers and could be employed as low-cost alternatives for the removal of acid dyes in wastewater treatment. | AZLAN Kamari WAN SAIME Wan Ngah LAI KEN Liew | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,3: | 18
Shale hydration inhibition characteristics and mechanism of a new amine-based additive in water-based drilling fluids显示文摘In this work, shale hydration Inhibition performance of tallow amine ethoxylate as a shale stabilizer in water based drilling fluid, was investigated through these tests:bentonite hydration inhibition test, bentonite sedimentation test, drill cutting recovery test, dynamic linear swelling test, wettability test, isothermal water adsorption test, and zeta potential test. The results showed that bentonite particles are not capable of being hydrated or dispersed in the mediums containing tallow amine ethoxylate;tallow amine ethoxylate had shown a comparable and competitive inhibition performance with potassium chloride as a common shale stabilizer in drilling industry. Some amine functional groups exist in tallow amine ethoxylate structure which are capable of forming hydrogen bonding with surfaces of bentonite particles. This phenomenon decreased the water adsorption on bentonite particles'surfaces which results in reduction of swelling.Tallow amine ethoxylate is also compatible with other common drilling fluid additives. | Pezhman Barati Khalil Shahbazi Mosayyeb Kamari Amir Aghajafari | 2017 | Petroleum2017,3,4: | 5
Estimation of rock uniaxial compressive strength for an Iranian carbonate oil reservoir: Modeling vs. artificial neural network application显示文摘Estimation of rock mechanic parameters is an important issue in reservoir management.Uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)and elastic modulus are the most important factors in determining the rock mechanic parameters in petroleum engineering studies.Accessibility to the parameters in fields such as designing fracture, analyzing of wellbore stability and drilling programming are very useful. The most accurate method to assign the aforementioned parameters is measuring these parameters in a laboratory.Laboratory determination of these parameters is problematic work due to technology issues, lack of laboratory equipment and coring problems in oil and gas wells,so indirect estimation of these parameters is required.Using well log data is the cheapest and most available approach in order to indirectly estimate these parameters. In this investigation, different models including multiple linear regression(MLR)and artificial neural network(ANN)(i.e.,multi linear perceptron(MLP)and radial basis function(RBF))were utilized for prediction of UCS via the three parameters of porosity, density and water saturation. These data were obtained from analysis of sonic, neutron, gamma ray and electric logs. The best results were obtained from a 3-15-1 MLP network which included one hidden layer and 15 neurons from the hidden layer using the trial and error method, and a 3-17-1 RBF which included 17 hidden neurons and a spread ò of 1.6.The core data from one of the carbonate Iranian oil fields(Asmari reservoir)were utilized for training, validation and testing of the networks, and correlation coefficients of 0.68,0.90 and 0.83 were obtained for MLR,MLP and RBF,respectively. | Maryam Hassanvand Siyamak Moradi Moslem Fattahi Ghasem Zargar Mosayyeb Kamari | 2018 | Petroleum Research2018,3,4: | 3
Insight into selection of appropriate formulation for colloidal gas aphron(CGA)-based drilling fluids显示文摘Application of light-weight drilling fluids is essential to develop depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs.Recently, colloidal gas aphron(CGA)-based fluids have been introduced for such applications due to their ability in controlling fluid losses. In this work,a comprehensive experimental study was performed to choose the best formulation for CGA fluids by implementing static stability tests, rheological behavior measurements, and bubble size analyses of CGAs.Xanthan gum polymer and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate(SDBS),an anionic surfactant, and cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB),a cationic surfactant, were utilized to prepare CGAs.For the range of experiments conducted, the performance of CGA fluids prepared with SDBS was improved by increasing the polymer and surfactant concentrations. However, for CTAB,it was improved by an increase in the polymer concentration and a decrease in the surfactant concentration. The formation of white, long hair-like precipitates observed at high levels of CTAB caused CGA fluid to become rapidly unstable. Also,it was observed that the size of CGAs was significantly influenced by the polymer and surfactant concentrations. The most stable bubbles were formed at 6.86 g/L of polymer concentration. The results of this study provide insights into appropriate formulation for CGA-based fluids which could be potentially applicable in drilling operations. | Mohsen Pasdar Ezatallah Kazemzadeh Ehsan Kamari Mohammad Hossein Ghazanfari Mohammad Soleymani | 2020 | Petroleum Science2020,17,3: | 2
Effects of modified graphene oxide(GO) nanofluid on wettability and IFT changes: Experimental study for EOR applications显示文摘The application of nanoparticles(NPs) in enhanced oil recovery(EOR) offers a practical approach to resolving some surface-related problems encountered in contemporary technological processes. In this study, graphene oxide nanosheets(GONs) were synthesized by Hummer's method and, then, were subjected to surface modification by hexamethyldisilazane(HMDS) and diazonium sulfonic(DS) compounds. The new combination was known as GO-Su-HMDS. The potential stability of GO-Su-HMDS nanofluids(NFs) was investigated using the zeta(ζ) potential test. A comparative study of the effect of the synthesized NFs on wettability alteration of the reservoir rock was performed using interfacial tension(IFT) and contact angle experiments. According to the results of this study, the contact angle decreased from the initial value of 161.(oil wet) to 35.(water wet). In addition, IFT decreased from18.45 mN/m for deionized(DI) water to 8.8 mN/m for 500 ppm GO-Su-HMDS NF. Moreover, the results of flooding experiments showed that the NPs of a GO-Su-HMDS concentration of 400 and 500 ppm could increase the oil recovery by 20% and 19%, respectively. The experimental results showed that GO-SuHMDS NFs with a concentration of 500 ppm have the best efficiency in terms of altering the wettability of the rock from oil wet to water wet. Thus, it can be said that this nanofluid can reduce the contact angle and IFT and also increase the sweeping efficiency of oil. | Ehsan Jafarbeigi Farhad Salimi Ehsan Kamari Mohsen Mansouri | 2022 | Petroleum Science2022,19,4: | 2
