1Determination of calorie and protein intake among acute and sub-acute traumatic brain injury patients显示文摘Purpose:Malnutrition is a common problem among hospitalized patients,especially among traumatic brain injury(TBI)patients.It is developed from hypermetabolism and the condition may worsen under the circumstance of underfeeding or incompatible dietary management.However,the data of nutrient intake especially calorie and protein among TBI patients were scarce.Hence,this study aimed to determine the calorie and protein intake among acute and sub-acute TBI patients receiving medical nutrition therapy in hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah,Terengganu.Methods:This observational study involved 50 patients recruited from the neurosurgical ward.Method of 24 h dietary recall was utilized and combined with self-administered food diaries for 2-8 days.Food consumptions including calorie intake and protein intake were analyzed using Nutritionist PRO™(Woodinville,USA)and manual calculation based on the Malaysian food composition database(2015).Results:Patients consisted of 56%males and 44%females with the median age of 28.0(IQR=22.8-36.5)years,of which 92%were diagnosed as mild TBI and the remaining(8%)as moderate TBI.The Glasgow coma scale(GCS)was adopted to classify TBI severity with the score 13-15 being mild and 9-12 being moderate.The median length of hospital stay was 2(IQR=2.0e3.3)days.Calorie and protein intake improved significantly from day 1 to discharge day.However,the intake during discharge day was still considered as suboptimal,i.e.75%of calorie requirement,whilst the median protein intake was only 61.3%relative to protein requirement.Moreover,the average percentages of calorie and protein intakes throughout hospitalization were remarkably lower,i.e.52.2%and 41.0%,respectively.Conclusion:Although the calorie and protein intakes had increased from baseline,hospitalized TBI patients were still at a risk to develop malnutrition as the average intakes were considerably low as compared to their requirements.Optimum nutrient intakes especially calorie and protein are crucial to ensure optimum recovery process as well as to minimize risks of infection and complications.Mohd Ibrahim Abdullah Aryati Ahmad Sharifah Wajihah Wafa Syed Saadun Tarek Wafa Ahmad Zubaidi Abdul Latif Noor Aini Mohd Yusoff Muhammad Khalis Jasmiad Nujaimin Udin Kartini Abdul Karim 2020Chinese Journal of Traumatology2020,23,5:3

10Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Jeffrey fluid over a stretching vertical surface in a porous medium显示文摘This paper presents the study of steady two-dimensional mixed convection boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a Jeffrey fluid over a stretched sheet immersed in a porous medium in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations with the aid of similarity transformation, which are then solved numerically using an implicit finite difference scheme. 14Antimicrobial effect of Malaysian vegetables against enteric bacteria显示文摘Objective: To investigate the antibacterial activities of green vegetables(pennywort,mint, garlic, parsley and celery) against four common enteric bacteria [Salmonella enterica(ATCC 25957)(S. enterica), Shigella flexneri(ATCC 12022)(S. flexneri),Escherichia coli(ATCC 43889)(E. coli) and Enterobacter cloacae(ATCC 13047)(E. cloacae)] as an alternative medicine for controlling food borne diarrhea disease and the synergistic effect of green vegetables against those bacteria.Methods: Five common vegetables(pennywort, mint, garlic, parsley and celery) were purchased and extracted. The antimicrobial activities of these extracts were tested against four common enteric bacteria(S. enterica, S. flexneri, E. coli and E. cloacae). Ten different concentrations of the extracts(from 640 to 1.25 mg/m L) were prepared and used for the study. The minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) was determined by the broth dilution method. The antimicrobial activities were assessed by using both well diffusion and disc diffusion methods.Results: Garlic extract showed excellent inhibitory effects on all enteric bacteria. Other plants(parsley, celery, mint and pennywort) were not effective against enteric bacteria.The MIC of garlic against S. flexneri and E. cloacae was 40 mg/m L. The MIC of S. enterica and E. coli were 20 and 10 mg/m L, respectively. The performance of the well diffusion method was better than that of the disc diffusion method with clear and sharp inhibition zones of tested bacteria against plant extracts.Conclusions: Garlic had excellent antimicrobial effects against enteric bacteria and was recommended to be given to patients with gastroenteritis. The other vegetables(pennywort, mint, parsley and celery) showed no inhibitory effects on enteric bacteria but still can be used for its richness in vitamins and fibers. 17Multi-Floor Indoor Trajectory Reconstruction Using Mobile Devices显示文摘An indoor trajectory is the path of an object moving through corridors and stairs inside a building.There are various types of technologies that can be used to reconstruct the path of a moving object and detect its position.GPS has been used for reconstruction in outdoor environments,but for indoor environments,mobile devices with embedded sensors are used.An accelerometer sensor and a magnetometer sensor are used to detect human movement and reconstruct the trajectory on a single floor.In an indoor environment,there are many activities that will create the trajectory similar to an outdoor environment,such as passing along the corridor,going from one room to another,and other activities.We need to analyse trajectories to obtain the movement patterns,understand themost frequently visited places or paths used aswell as the least frequented ones.Furthermore,we can utilize movement patterns to obtain a better building design and layout.The latest studies focus on reconstructing the trajectory on a single floor.However,actual indoor environments are comprised of multi-floors and multibuildings.The purpose of this paper is to reconstruct a trajectory in an indoor multi-floor environment.We have conducted extensive experiments to evaluate the performance of our proposed algorithms in a campus building.The result of our experiment shows that the height of the building can be detected using a barometer sensor that gives an atmospheric pressure reading which is then transformed by setting the range value according to the number of floors,enabling the sensors to detect activity in a multi-floor building.The readings obtained from the magnetometer sensor can be used to reconstruct the trajectory similar to the real path based on the direction and degree of direction.The system accuracy in recognizing steps in a multi-floor building is about 84%.Sultan Alamri Kartini Nurfalah Kiki Adhinugraha 2021Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2021,,9:0
18Synthesis of novel magneto-hybrid polyoxometalate composite membrane with simultaneous photocatalytic self-cleaning and antifouling functionalities显示文摘Membrane technology is ideal for removing aqueous humic acid,but humic acid deposits cause membrane fouling,a significant challenge that limits its application.Herein,this work proposed an alternative approach to the controllably magnetically induced magnetohybrid polyoxometalate(magneto-HPOM)nanocomposite migration toward the polyethersulfone(PES)membrane surface under a magnetic field to enhance the self-cleaning and antifouling functionalities of the membrane.Before incorporating magneto-HPOM nanocomposite into the PES casting solution,functionalized magnetite nanoparticles(F-MNP)were first coated with HPOM photocatalyst to fabricate a magneto-HPOM-PES membrane.It was shown that the apparent impacts of this novel magneto-HPOM-PES membrane on the hydrophilic behavior and photocatalytic properties of the magneto-HPOM nanocomposite improve the hydrophilicity,separation performance,antifouling and self-cleaning properties of the membrane compared with neat PES membrane.Furthermore,after exposure to ultraviolet light,the magneto-HPOM-PES membrane can be recovered after three cycles with a flux recovery ratio of 107.95%,100.06%,and 95.56%,which is attributed to the temporal super hydrophilicity effect.Meanwhile,the magneto-HPOM-PES membrane could efficiently maintain 100%humic acid rejection for the first and second cycles and 99.81%for the third cycle.This study revealed a novel approach to fabricating membranes with high antifouling and self-cleaning properties for water treatment.Nee Nee Tan Qi Hwa Ng Siti Kartini Enche Ab Rahim Abdul Latif Ahmad Peng Yong Hoo Thiam Leng Chew 2023Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering2023,17,10:0
19Integrated adsorption and photocatalytic removal of methylene blue dye from aqueous solution by hierarchical Nb_(2)O_(5)@PAN/PVDF/ANO composite nanofibers显示文摘This work presents the development of hierarchical niobium pentoxide(Nb_(2)O_(5))-based composite nanofiber membranes for integrated adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue(MB)pollutants from aqueous solutions.The Nb_(2)O_(5) nanorods were vertically grown using a hydrothermal process on a base electrospun nanofibrous membrane made of polyacrylonitrile/polyvinylidene fluoride/ammonium niobate(V)oxalate hydrate(Nb_(2)O_(5)@PAN/PVDF/ANO).They were characterized using field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD)analysis,and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy.These composite nanofibers possessed a narrow optical bandgap energy of 3.31 eV and demonstrated an MB degradation efficiency of 96%after 480 min contact time.The pseudo-first-order kinetic study was also conducted,in which Nb_(2)O_(5)@PAN/PVDF/ANO nanofibers have kinetic constant values of 1.29×10^(-2) min^(-1) and 0.30×10^(-2) min^(-1) for adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of MB aqueous solutions,respectively.These values are 17.7 and 7.8 times greater than those of PAN/PVDF/ANO nanofibers without Nb_(2)O_(5) nanostructures.Besides their outstanding photocatalytic performance,the developed membrane materials exhibit advantageous characteristics in recycling,which subsequently widen their practical use in environmental remediation applications.Aditya Rianjanu Kurniawan Deny Pratama Marpaung Elisabeth Kartini Arum Melati Rizky Aflaha Yudha Gusti Wibowo I Putu Mahendra Nursidik Yulianto Januar Widakdo Kuwat Triyana Hutomo Suryo Wasisto Tarmizi Taher 2024Nano Materials Science2024,6,1:0
