1Lessons in bridge damage learned from the Wenchuan earthquake显示文摘A strong earthquake occurred in Wenchuan County,Sichuan Province,China,on May 12,2008.Shortly after the earthquake,the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center of the Federal Highway Administration,in partnership with the Research Institute of Highways,the Ministry of Communication of China,led a reconnaissance team to conduct a post-earthquake bridge performance investigation of the transportation system in the earthquake affected areas.The U.S.transportation system reconnaissance team visited the area during July 20-24,2008.This paper presents the fi ndings and lessons learned by the team.W. 3Basic and clinical study of increased effect of partial anti-tumor agents by infusing sodium bicarbonate through target artery显示文摘Objective: To observe the influence of pH value on the proliferation of LAK cells and on the killing effect of rIL-2, IFN-ɑ2b, TNF-α, LAK cells and doxorubicin on malignant tumor cells, and investigate the possibility of increasing the efficacy of rIL-2 or IFN-ɑ2b and doxorubicin by infusing sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) through target arteries. Methods: Separating single nucleus cells from peripheral blood of healthy men, and observing the influence of pH on the activation of single nucleus cells by rIL-2. MTT assay was used to measure the killing effect of rIL-2, IFN-ɑ2b and TNF-α on 7404 cells and the increased effect of doxorubicin on rIL-2 and IFN-ɑ2b, the cytotoxity of LAK cells in different pH. Forty-two patients with advanced primary liver cancer were obtained by stratified random, NaHCO3, rIL-2/IFN-ɑ2b and doxorubicin were infused through target arteries. The efficacy was estimated after two cycles. Results: The conditions of pH 7.3 and pH 7.6 in vitro helped the proliferation of LAK cells and the killing effect of rIL-2, IFN-ɑ2b and LAK cells on 7404 cells. In the condition of pH 6.8 there was almost no killing effect for LAK cells. In the condition of pH 7.0, 7.2, 7.4 and 7.6, the killing rate of TNF-α to 7404 cells increased by degrees, and in pH 7.4 the killing effect was the optimum. After two cycles treatments in the 42 patients with advanced primary liver cancer, the response rate (CR+PR) was 88% (37/42). The median overall response and median overall survival were increased , and no complication associated with infusing sodium bicarbonate was observed. 4Mechanism of Metal Transfer in DE-GMAW显示文摘Modification of conventional gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process is of great potential to achieve high productivity with low cost and strong usability. Double-Electrode GMAW (DE-GMAW) is such a modified arc welding process which is formed by adding a bypass torch (gas tungsten arc welding torch) to a conventional GMAW system. The mechanism of metal transfer in DE-GMAW was proposed and verified in this paper. Experiments show that the critical current is decreased so that spray transfer can be obtained at a lower current level in DE-GMAW. Analysis of this significant change in metal transfer phenomena is conducted, and explanation is given out. It is found that the bypass arc in DE-GMAW lifts the anode point on the droplets such that the electromagnetic force becomes larger and squeezes the droplets so that spray transfer can take place under welding current lower than that in conventional GMAW.Kehai Li Chuansong Wu 2009Journal of Materials Science & Technology2009,25,3:3
5Effect of mechanical degradation of laminated elastomeric bearings and shear keys upon seismic behaviors of small-to-medium-span highway bridges in transverse direction显示文摘Laminated elastomeric bearings have been widely used for small-to-medium-span highway bridges in China, in which concrete shear keys are set transversely to prohibit large girder displacement. To evaluate bridge seismic responses more accurately, proper analytical models of bearings and shear keys should be developed. Based on a series of cyclic loading experiments and analyses, rational analytical models of laminated elastomeric bearings and shear keys, which can consider mechanical degradation, were developed. The effect of the mechanical degradation was investigated by examining the seismic response of a small-to-medium-span bridge in the transverse direction under a wide range of peak ground accelerations(PGA). The damage mechanism for small-to-medium-span highway bridges was determined, which can explain the seismic damage investigation during earthquakes in recent years. The experimental results show that the mechanical properties of laminated elastomeric bearings will degrade due to friction sliding, but the degree of decrease is dependent upon the influencing parameters. It can be concluded that the mechanical degradation of laminated elastomeric bearings and shear keys play an important role in the seismic response of bridges. 12Grey correlational and SSR analyses of cotton hybrids显示文摘Ten upland cotton strains exhibiting 3 fiber quality traits and 8 yield traits,were grown for two years in an investigation of the correlation between grey relational analysis(GRA) and genetic identity in heterosis of cotton hybrid. The aim was to establish the optimal approach for heterosis prediction and parent selection. Plant traits data were collected and analyzed for GRA. In addition,72 simple sequence repeat(SSR) markers were examined and 148 polymorphisms were detected. Correlation analysis of GRA,genetic identity,F1 fiber quality and yield heterosis was conducted. Significant differences were observed between the two analytic methods,whereas comparable predictions were given for yield heterosis. GRA for yield exhibited slightly higher correlation than genetic identity analysis,with a correlation coefficient of 0.49. GRA and genetic analysis exhibited overlapping yet distinct advantages in heterosis prediction.
