| 1 | Effect of mini-cutting size on adventitious rooting and morphophysiological quality of Ilex paraguariensis plantlets显示文摘As the energizing and therapeutic effects of infusions of mate(Ilex paraguariensis A.St.-Hil)leaves are increasingly recognized,rising global consumption is also increasing the demand for plantlets with high genetic and morphological qualities.Mini-cuttings are an alternative for clonal plantlets;however,more details are needed on factors that affect the success of this technique.Here,toward maximizing production,we evaluated adventitious rooting competence of mini-cuttings of different sizes and the morphophysiological quality of the resultant plantlets.Small(one bud;length up to 2.5 cm),medium(multiple buds;length 2.6–5.0 cm),and large(multiple buds;length 5.1–10.0 cm)mini-cuttings were planted in a mixture of commercial substrate,vermiculite,and coarse sand(1:1:1 v:v:v),grown in a humidity chamber,then evaluated after 45,60,75,and 90 days for survival,percentage of callus and shoot formation,number and length of shoots,percentage of rooted cuttings,and number and length of roots.Any rooted mini-cuttings were then cultivated in commercial substrate and subsurface soil(2:1 v:v)and evaluated after 30,60,90 and 120 days of cultivation for morphophysiology of the plantlets,percentage of survival,number of leaves,shoot height,stem diameter,and ratio of shoot height to stem diameter.After 120 days,the plantlets were evaluated for the ratio of shoot and root dry mass,total length,surface area,total volume,and mean diameter of roots and Dickson quality index.Adventitious rooting of the mini-cuttings and the morphophysiological quality of the plantlets were not influenced by the size of the vegetative propagule.Therefore,single-bud mini-cuttings have similar adventitious rooting competence,and result in plantlets with adequate morphophysiological quality,based upon leaf development,shoot height,stem diameter and length,and surface area,volume and diameter of roots.Single-bud mini-cuttings up to 2.5 cm long can thus be used to maximize production of mate plantlets by mini-cuttings. | Nathalia Pimentel Denise Gazzana Janaina de Fatima Spanevello Kelen Haygert Lencina Dilson Antônio Bisognin | 2021 | Journal of Forestry Research2021,32,2: | 3 |
| 2 | The influence of canopy-layer composition on understory plant diversity in southern temperate forests显示文摘Background: Understory plants represents the largest component of biodiversity in most forest ecosystems and plays a key role in forest functioning.Despite their importance, the influence of overstory-layer composition on understory plant diversity is relatively poorly understood within deciduous-evergreen broadleaved mixed forests.The aim of this work was to evaluate how tree overstory-layer composition influences on understory-layer diversity in three forest types(monospecific deciduous Nothofagus pumilio(Np), monospecific evergreen Nothofagus betuloides(Nb), and mixed N.pumilio-N.betuloides(M) forests), comparing also between two geographical locations(coast and mountain) to estimate differences at landscape level.Results: We recorded 46 plant species: 4 ferns, 12 monocots, and 30 dicots.Canopy-layer composition influences the herb-layer structure and diversity in two different ways: while mixed forests have greater similarity to evergreen forests in the understory structural features, deciduous and mixed were similar in terms of the specific composition of plant assemblage.Deciduous pure stands were the most diverse, meanwhile evergreen stands were least diverse.Lack of exclusive species of mixed forest could represent a transition where evergreen and deciduous communities meet and integrate.Moreover, landscape has a major influence on the structure, diversity and richness of understory vegetation of pure and mixed forests likely associated to the magnitude and frequency of natural disturbances, where mountain forest not only had highest herb-layer diversity but also more exclusive species.Conclusions: Our study suggests that mixed Nothofagus forest supports coexistence of both pure deciduous and pure evergreen understory plant species and different assemblages in coastal and mountain sites.Maintaining the mixture of canopy patch types within mixed stands will be important for conserving the natural patterns of understory plant composition in southern beech mixed forests. | Luciana Mestre Monica Toro-Manriquez Rosina Soler Alejandro Huertas-Herrera Guillermo Martinez-Pastur Maria Vanessa Lencinas | 2017 | Forest Ecosystems2017,4,2: | 3 |

| 20 | Colonic preparation before colonoscopy in constipated and non-constipated patients:A randomized study显示文摘AIM: To compare the efficacy of different doses of sodium phosphate(NaP) and polyethylenglicol(PEG) alone or with bisacodyl for colonic cleansing in constipated and non-constipated patients.METHODS: Three hundred and forty-nine patients,older than 18 years old,with low risk for renal damage and who were scheduled for outpatient colonoscopy were randomized to receive one of the following preparations(prep): 90 mL of NaP(prep 1);45 mL of NaP + 20 mg of bisacodyl(prep 2);4 L of PEG(prep 3) or 2 L of PEG + 20 mg of bisacodyl(prep 4).Randomization was stratified by constipation.Patients,endoscopists,endoscopists' assistants and data analysts were blinded.A blinding challenge was performed to endoscopist in order to reassure blinding.The primary outcome was the efficacy of colonic cleansing using a previous reported scale.Secondary outcomes were tolerability,compliance,side effects,endoscopist perception about the necessity to repeat the study due to an inadequate colonic preparation and patient overall perceptions.RESULTS: Information about the primary outcome was obtained from 324 patients(93%).There were no significant differences regarding the preparation quality among different groups in the overall analysis.Compliance was higher in the NaP preparations being even higher in half-dose with bisacodyl: 94%(prep 1),100%(prep 2),81%(prep 3) and 87%(prep 4)(2 vs 1,3 and 4,P < 0.01;1 vs 3,4,P < 0.05).The combination of bisacodyl with NaP was associated with insomnia(P = 0.04).In non-constipated patients the preparation quality was also similar between different groups,but endoscopist appraisal about the need to repeat the study was more frequent in the half-dose PEG plus bisacodyl than in whole dose NaP preparation: 11%(prep 4) vs 2%(prep 1)(P < 0.05).Compliance in this group was also higher with the NaP preparations: 95%(prep 1),100%(prep2) vs 80%(prep 3)(P < 0.05).Bisacodyl was associated with abdominal pain: 13%(prep 1),31%(prep 2),21%(prep 3) and 29%(prep 4),(2,4 vs 1,2,P < 0.05).In constipated patients the combination of NaP plus bisacodyl presented higher rates of satisfactory colonic cleansing than whole those PEG: 95%(prep 2) vs 66%(prep 3)(P = 0.03).Preparations containing bisacodyl were not associated with adverse effects in constipated patients.CONCLUSION: In non-constipated patients,compliance is higher with NaP preparations,and bisacodyl is related to adverse effects.In constipated patients NaP plus bisacodyl is the most effective preparation. | Lisandro Pereyra Daniel Cimmino Carlos González Malla Mariano Laporte Nicolás Rotholtz Carlos Peczan Sandra Lencinas Silvia Pedreira Hugo Catalano Luis Boerr | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,31: | 1 |
