| 2 | Development status of high power fiber lasers and their coherent beam combination显示文摘High-power fiber laser has been emerged great potential in a wide range of applications and becomes a robust candidate for high energy solid state laser system. To further increase the output brightness of single-channel fiber laser, high-brightness pump sources and high-power-handling passive components should be fabricated and utilized in the fiber laser systems, in addition to the advanced techniques for multiple nonlinear effects managements. The state-of-the-art high power fiber lasers are reviewed, in terms of narrow-linewidth fiber lasers, broadband fiber lasers and fiber lasers at 2 μm. Coherent beam combining is a promising technique to obtain higher output power while maintaining excellent beam quality simultaneously,which breaks through the bottlenecks of single-channel fiber laser. Based on a series of key techniques for coherent beam combining, high-power coherent beam combining of fiber lasers could be enabled with high combining efficiency. In this paper, we review the progress of high-power fiber lasers and their coherent beam combining in the recent decade, particularly the relevant work in our group. | 3 | 1.3 kW monolithic linearly polarized single-mode master oscillator power amplifier and strategies for mitigating mode instabilities显示文摘We report on the high-power amplification of a 1064 nm linearly polarized laser in an all-fiber polarizationmaintained master oscillator power amplifier,which can operate at an output power level of 1.3 kW.The beam quality(M^2) was measured to be <1.2 at full power operation.The polarization extinction rate of the fiber amplifier was measured to be above 94% before mode instabilities(MIs) set in,which reduced to about 90% after the onset of MI.The power scaling capability of strategies for suppressing MI is analyzed based on a semianalytical model,the theoretical results of which agree with the experimental results.It shows that mitigating MI by coiling the gain fiber is an effective and practical method in standard double-cladding large mode area fiber,and,by tight coiling of the gain fiber to the radius of 5.5 cm,the MI threshold can be increased to three times higher than that without coiling or loose coiling.Experimental studies have been carried out to verify the idea,which has proved that MI was suppressed successfully in the amplifier by proper coiling. | Rumao Tao Pengfei Ma Xiaolin Wang Pu Zhou Zejin Liu | 2015 | Photonics Research2015,3,3: | 15 |
| 4 | High power all-fiberized and narrow-bandwidth MOPA system by tandem pumping strategy for thermally induced mode instability suppression显示文摘An all-fiberized and narrow-bandwidth master oscillator power amplification(MOPA) system with record output power of 4 kW level and slope efficiency of 78% is demonstrated. Tandem pumping strategy is tentatively introduced into the narrow-bandwidth MOPA system for thermally induced mode instability(TMI) suppression. The stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS) effect is balanced by simply using one-stage phase modulation technique. With different phase modulation signals, SBS limited output powers of 336 W, 1.2 kW and 3.94 kW are respectively achieved with spectral bandwidths accounting for 90% power of ~0.025, 0.17 and ~0.89 nm. Compared with our previous 976 nm pumping system, TMI threshold is overall boosted to be >5 times in which tandem pumping increases the TMI threshold of >3times. The beam quality(M~2 factor) of the output laser is well within 1.5 below the TMI threshold while it is ultimately saturated to be 1.86 with the influence of TMI at maximal output power. Except for SBS and TMI, stimulated Raman scattering(SRS) effect will be another challenge for further power scaling. | 5 | High power linearly polarized fiber laser:Generation, manipulation and application显示文摘Linearly-polarized(LP) fiber lasers, which could find wide potential applications such as coherent detection, coherent/spectral beam combining, nonlinear frequency conversion, have been a research focus in recent years. In this paper, we will present a general review on the achievements of various kinds of high power LP fiber laser and its applications for the first time. The recent progress in high power LP fiber oscillator, including fiber oscillator based on active fiber, Raman fiber laser and Random distributed feedback fiber laser are summarized. Power scaling of LP fiber laser by using active-fiber based power amplifier, passive-fiber based Raman amplifier, and active/passive fiber based hybrid fiber amplifier has been achieved. Polarization-maintained active fiber based power amplifier and non-polarization-maintained active fiber based power amplifier incorporating active polarization control are specially introduced in detail. High power LP fiber laser with diversified property, such as narrow-linewidth, wavelength-tunable and ultrashort pulse operation, are summarized. | 6 | Urban flood inundation and damage assessment based on numerical simulations of design rainstorms with different characteristics显示文摘In the context of global climate change and urbanization,urban flooding is an important type of natural disaster that affects urban development,especially in China,which is experiencing rapid urbanization.In the past 10 years,urban flooding events have caused huge disaster losses in Chinese cities.This has resulted in significant negative effects on the urban infrastructure,socioeconomic systems,and urban residents,thus causing widespread concern.Studies have confirmed the change in extreme rainstorms is due to the changing environments in many cities globally.Conducting studies on the impact of these rainstorms with different characteristics for urban flooding is valuable for coping with unfavorable situations.In addition,numerical simulations provide an economical and viable means to perform these studies.This paper presents a numerical model of Xiamen Island in China.Simulations were conducted for 12 design rainstorm events with different return periods,rain patterns,and durations.The results indicate that,in the case of an equal rainfall amount,the rainfall intensity is the key factor that affects the inundated area,depth,and damages.However,the rainfall intensity is not the only determining factor;the rainfall pattern also affects the inundations.In regard to the rainfall pattern,a higher rainfall peak coefficient usually leads to severe urban inundation and damage.As a result,the lag time would be shorter,which may further exacerbate the impact of urban flood disasters.The results of this study provide insights into managing flood risks,developing urban flood prevention strategies,and designing flood prevention measures. | MEI Chao LIU JiaHong WANG Hao LI ZeJin YANG ZhiYong SHAO WeiWei DING XiangYi WENG BaiSha YU YingDong YAN DianYi | 2020 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2020,63,11: | 5 |
| 7 | Propagation of high-power fiber laser with high-order-mode content显示文摘Propagation properties of high-power fiber laser with high-order-mode(HOM) content are studied numerically for the first time to the best of our knowledge. The effect of HOM on the propagation property is evaluated by the power in the bucket(PIB) metric. It is shown that PIB is mainly dependent on HOM content rather than the relative phase between the fundamental mode and HOM. The PIB in vacuum is more than 80% when the power fraction of the HOM is controlled to be less than 50% at 5 km. The relative phase has an impact on the peak intensity position and concentration of the far-field intensity distribution. If an adaptive optics system is used to correct the peak intensity deviation, the results indicate that there exists a maximal value of PIB as relative phase increases. Such effect is weakened when propagating in turbulence. Compared to the laser beams without HOM, laser beams with HOM content are less influenced by the turbulence and can reduce average intensity fluctuation. | 9 | Highly efficient continuous-wave mid-infrared generation based on intracavity difference frequency mixing显示文摘We report on a new scheme for efficient continuous-wave(CW)mid-infrared generation using difference frequency generation(DFG)inside a periodically poled lithium niobate(PPLN)-based optical parametric oscillator(OPO).The pump sources were two CW fiber lasers fixed at 1018 nm and 1080 nm.One worked as the assisted laser to build parametric oscillation and generate an oscillating signal beam while the other worked at low power(3 W)to induce DFG between it and the signal beam.The PPLN temperature was appropriately adjusted to enable OPO and DFG to synchronously meet phase-matching conditions.Finally,both low-power 1018 nm and 1080 nm pump beams were successfully converted to 3.1μm and 3.7μm idler beams,respectively.The conversion efficiencies of the 1018 nm and 1080 nm pumped DFG reached 20% and 15%,respectively,while their slope efficiencies reached 19.6% and 15%.All these data were comparable to the OPOs pumped by themselves and never realized before in traditional CW DFG schemes.The results reveal that high-efficiency frequency down-conversion can be achieved with a low-power nearinfrared pump source. | Cheng Xi Peng Wang Xiao Li Zejin Liu | 2019 | High Power Laser Science and Engineering2019,7,4: | 2 |

| 11 | Toward high-power nonlinear fiber amplifier显示文摘Stimulated Raman scattering(SRS) effect is considered to be one of the main obstacles for power scaling in general-type fiber lasers. Different from previous techniques that aim at suppressing SRS, nonlinear fiber amplifier(NFA), which manipulates and employs the SRS for power scaling in rare-earth-doped fiber, is under intensive research in recent years.In this paper, the authors will present an all-round study on this new kind of high-power fiber amplifier. A theoretical model is proposed based on the rate equation and amplified spontaneous emission(ASE), with random noise taken into account. By numerical solving of the theoretical model, the power scaling potential, heat analysis and advantages in suppressing the undesired backscattering light are quantificationally analyzed for the first time. Then two different types of high-power NFAs are demonstrated individually. Firstly, a laser diode pumped NFA has reached kilowatt output power,and the results agree well with theoretical predictions. Secondly, a tandem-pumped NFA is proposed for the first time and validated experimentally, in which 1.5 kW output power has been achieved. | 13 | Analysis of driving forces of water demand in Jing-Jin-Ji district in recent years based on water demand field theory显示文摘In recent years,urbanization has accelerated and the gap between urban water supply and demand has become more significant.This phenomenon has led to greater demands on urban water resource management. Thus,analyses of the forces that drive urban water demand growth can help efficient management of urban water resources. 'Jing-Jin-Ji' refers to the district composed of Beijing and Tianjin,municipality as well as Hebei Province,which is among the political and economic centers of China. The traditional analysis of driving force for water resources often consider cities as independent individuals and ignores the interaction between them. Such method cannot describe the spatial distribution of regional water demand. In this study,the water demand field theory is used to construct water demand and social development fields for the Jing-Jin-Ji district with relevant indicators. The distribution trends of the two fields,and the correlation of their intensities,are then analyzed. Principal component analysis is used to specifically determine the forces that drive water demand at different stages of development.Results indicate that the water demand field theory can accurately describe spatial variations in water demand intensity in the study area. The main driving force for water demand in the Jing-Jin-Ji district from 2000 to 2014 is the growth of urban population. However,in 2015 and 2016,'GDP of the tertiary industry' overtook it. | 16 | Lattice instability of V_2AlC at high pressure显示文摘We investigate the elastic and thermodynamic properties of nanolaminate V2 AlC by using the ab initio pseudopotential total energy method. The axial compressibility shows that the c axis is always stiffer than a axis. The elastic constants revealed the structural instability at about 500 and 732 GPa. Furthermore, elastic constants C44 reached its maximum at about 550 GPa, differing with the other four C11 , C12 , C13 and C33 constants. The Poisson's ratio investigations demonstrated that a higher ionic or weaker covalent contribution in intra-atomic bonding and the degree of ionicity increases with pressure. The G/B and B/C44 investigations revealed that V2 AlC is brittle and the brittleness decreases with pressure. Also, we found that V2 AlC is elastic anisotropic materials and the degree of anisotropy rapidly rises with pressure. | 17 | Investigation on extreme frequency shift in silica fiber-based high-power Raman fiber laser显示文摘In this paper, we experimentally investigated the extreme frequency shift in high-power Raman fiber laser(RFL). The RFL was developed by using a pair of fiber Bragg gratings with fixed and matched central wavelength(1120 nm)combined with a piece of 31-m-long polarization maintaining(PM) passive fiber adopted as Raman gain medium.The pump source was a homemade high-power, linearly polarized(LP) wavelength-tunable master oscillator power amplifier(MOPA) source with ~25 nm tunable working range(1055–1080 nm). High-power and high-efficiency RFL with extreme frequency shift between the pump and Stokes light was explored. It is found that frequency shift located within 10.6 THz and 15.2 THz can ensure efficient Raman lasing, where the conversion efficiency is more than 95% of the maximal value, 71.3%.
