| 1 | Collapse simulation of a super high-rise building subjected to extremely strong earthquakes显示文摘In recent years, super high-rise buildings (>500 m) are developing very quickly and become an important frontier of civil engineering. The collapse resistance of super high-rise buildings subjected to extremely strong earthquake is a critical problem that must be intensively studied. This paper builds up a nonlinear finite element model of the tallest building in China, Shang- hai Tower (632 m), and proposes the modeling method and failure criteria for different structural elements. The dynamic char- acters of this building are then analyzed, and the possible failure modes and collapse processes due to earthquakes are pre- dicted, as well as the corresponding collapse mechanism. | 2 | An improved ground motion intensity measure for super high-rise buildings显示文摘Ground motion intensity measure (IM) is an important part in performance-based seismic design. A reasonable and efficient IM can make the prediction of the structural seismic responses more accurate. Therefore, a more reasonable IM for super high-rise buildings is proposed in this paper. This IM takes into account the significant characteristic that higher-order vibration modes play important roles in the seismic response of super high-rise buildings, as well as the advantages of some existing IMs. The key parameter of the proposed IM is calibrated using a series of time-history analyses. The collapse simulations of two super high-rise buildings are used to discuss the suitability of the proposed IM and some other existing IMs. The results indicate that the proposed IM yields a smaller coefficient of variation for the critical collapse status than other existing IMs and performs well in reflecting the contribution of higher-order vibration modes to the structural response. | 3 | Evaluation of collapse resistance of RC frame structures for Chinese schools in seismic design categories B and C显示文摘According to the Code for Seismic Design of Buildings (GB50011-2001), ten typical reinforced concrete (RC) frame structures, used as school classroom buildings, are designed with different seismic fortification intensities (SFIs) (SFI=6 to 8.5) and different seismic design categories (SDCs) (SDC=B and C). The collapse resistance of the frames with SDC=B and C in terms of collapse fragility curves are quantitatively evaluated and compared via incremental dynamic analysis (IDA). The results show that the collapse resistance of structures should be evaluated based on both the absolute seismic resistance and the corresponding design seismic intensity. For the frames with SFI from 6 to 7.5, because they have relatively low absolute seismic resistance, their collapse resistance is insufficient even when their corresponding SDCs are upgraded from B to C. | 6 | Influence of soil——structure interaction on seismic collapse resistance of super-tall buildings显示文摘Numerous field tests indicate that the soilestructure interaction(SSI) has a significant impact on the dynamic characteristics of super-tall buildings,which may lead to unexpected structural seismic responses and/or failure.Taking the Shanghai Tower with a total height of 632 m as the research object,the substructure approach is used to simulate the SSI effect on the seismic responses of Shanghai Tower.The refined finite element(FE) model of the superstructure of Shanghai Tower and the simplified analytical model of the foundation and adjacent soil are established.Subsequently,the collapse process of Shanghai Tower taking into account the SSI is predicted,as well as its final collapse mechanism.The influences of the SSI on the collapse resistance capacity and failure sequences are discussed.The results indicate that,when considering the SSI,the fundamental period of Shanghai Tower has been extended significantly,and the collapse margin ratio has been improved,with a corresponding decrease of the seismic demand.In addition,the SSI has some impact on the failure sequences of Shanghai Tower subjected to extreme earthquakes,but a negligible impact on the final failure modes. | Mengke Li Xiao Lu Xinzheng Lu Lieping Ye | 2014 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2014,6,5: | 4 |

| 8 | Regional seismic-damage prediction of buildings under mainshock-aftershock sequence显示文摘Strong aftershocks generally occur following a significant earthquake.Aftershocks further damage buildings weakened by mainshocks.Thus,the accurate and efficient prediction of aftershock-induced damage to buildings on a regional scale is crucial for decision making for post-earthquake rescue and emergency response.A framework to predict regional seismic damage of buildings under a mainshock-aftershock(MS-AS)sequence is proposed in this study based on city-scale nonlinear time-history analysis(THA).Specifically,an MS-AS sequence-generation method is proposed to generate a potential MS-AS sequence that can account for the amplification,spectrum,duration,magnitude,and site condition of a target area.Moreover,city-scale nonlinear THA is adopted to predict building seismic damage subjected to MS-AS sequences.The accuracy and reliability of city-scale nonlinear THA for an MS-AS sequence are validated by as-recorded seismic responses of buildings and simulation results in published literature.The town of Longtoushan,which was damaged during the Ludian earthquake,is used as a case study to illustrate the detailed procedure and advantages of the proposed framework.The primary conclusions are as follows.(1)Regional seismic damage of buildings under an MS-AS sequence can be predicted reasonably and accurately by city-scale nonlinear THA.(2)An MS-AS sequence can be generated reasonably by the proposed MS-AS sequencegeneration method.(3)Regional seismic damage of buildings under different MS-AS scenarios can be provided efficiently by the proposed framework,which in turn can provide a useful reference for earthquake emergency response and scientific decision making for earthquake disaster relief. | Xinzheng LU Qingle CHENG Zhen XU Chen XIONG | 2021 | Frontiers of Engineering Management2021,8,1: | 3 |
