1Ideotype root architecture for efficient nitrogen acquisition by maize in intensive cropping systems显示文摘The use of nitrogen(N) fertilizers has contributed to the production of a food supply sufficient for both animals and humans despite some negative environmental impact.Sustaining food production by increasing N use efficiency in intensive cropping systems has become a major concern for scientists,environmental groups,and agricultural policymakers worldwide.In high-yielding maize systems the major method of N loss is nitrate leaching.In this review paper,the characteristic of nitrate movement in the soil,N uptake by maize as well as the regulation of root growth by soil N availability are discussed.We suggest that an ideotype root architecture for efficient N acquisition in maize should include(i) deeper roots with high activity that are able to uptake nitrate before it moves downward into deep soil;(ii) vigorous lateral root growth under high N input conditions so as to increase spatial N availability in the soil;and(iii) strong response of lateral root growth to localized nitrogen supply so as to utilize unevenly distributed nitrate especially under limited N conditions.MI GuoHua,CHEN FanJun,WU QiuPing,LAI NingWei,YUAN LiXing & ZHANG FuSuo* Key Laboratory of Plant Nutrition,MOA Key Laboratory of Plant-Soil Interaction,MOE College of Resources and Environmental Science,China Agricultural University,Beijing 100193,China 2010Science China(Life Sciences)2010,53,12:35
2Experiment on impedance adaptation of under-actuated gripper using tactile array under unknown environment显示文摘The experiment on impedance adaptation to achieve stable grasp for an under-actuated gripper grasping different unknown objects with tactile array is conducted. Under-actuated gripper has a wildly application in the field of space robot and industrial robot because of its better shape-adaptation. However it is difficult to achieve stable grasp owning to the uncertain properties of environment. A control strategy of adaptive matching the impedance parameters is proposed to achieve stable grasp. Firstly, the unknown objects are described as linear systems with unknown dynamics, and the parameters of the object are identified with the recursive least-squares(RLS) method through tactile sensor array. Then a desired impedance model is obtained by defining a cost function that includes the contact force, velocity and displacement errors, and the critical impedance parameters are found to minimize it. 3Spatial variation in community structure of a subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest:Implications for sampling design显示文摘With the full survey data for a 24-ha subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest dynamics plot,we evaluated spatial variation in forest structure characteristics(basal area and aboveground biomass),and calculated the minimal sample size and total sampling area necessary to estimate the forest structure characteristics within 20%(±10%) of the observed values with 95% probability for particular quadrat sizes by using a computer program that is designed to simulate the sampling process by allowing different sized quadrats to be randomly located within the sampling region.We found that(1) based on the 600 20 m×20 m subplots,basal area and aboveground biomass displayed a high degree of variation,with respective coefficients of variation of 27% and 31%;(2) based on the computer simulation analysis,the variability of basal area and aboveground biomass decreased with increasing quadrat size.The number of quadrats required to achieve the specified degree of precision dropped sharply with the increase of quadrat size.However,the total sampling area increased with increasing quadrat size,suggesting that using several small quadrats across the sampling area is more efficient than using fewer larger quadrats.Results of this study are valuable for evaluating the reliability of previous research and may assist researchers in designing effective sampling strategies for future field surveys,particularly in subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests in China.LIN DunMei LAI JiangShan MI XiangCheng REN HaiBao MA KePing 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,10:2
