2Effect of Different Vegetation Types on the Rhizosphere Soil Microbial Community Structure in the Loess Plateau of China显示文摘The Loess Plateau in China is one of the most eroded areas in the world.Accordingly,vegetation restoration has been implemented in this area over the past two decades to remedy the soil degradation problem.Understanding the microbial community structure is essential for the sustainability of ecosystems and for the reclamation of degraded arable land.This study aimed to determine the effect of different vegetation types on microbial processes and community structure in rhizosphere soils in the Loess Plateau.The six vegetation types were as follows:two natural grassland(Artemisia capillaries and Heteropappus altaicus),two artificial grassland(Astragalus adsurgens and Panicum virgatum),and two artificial shrubland(Caragana korshinskii and Hippophae rhamnoides)species.The microbial community structure and functional diversity were examined by analyzing the phospholipid fatty acids(PLFAs) and community-level physiological profiles.The results showed that rhizosphere soil sampled from the H.altaicus and A.capillaries plots had the highest values of microbial biomass C,average well color development of carbon resources,Gram-negative(G-)bacterial PLFA,bacterial PLFA,total PLFA,Shannon richness,and Shannon evenness,as well as the lowest metabolic quotient.Soil sampled from the H.rhamnoides plots had the highest metabolic quotient and Gram-positive(G+)bacterial PLFA,and soil sampled from the A.adsurgens and A.capillaries plots had the highest fungal PLFA and fungal:bacterial PLFA ratio.Correlation analysis indicated a significant positive relationship among the microbial biomass C,G-bacterial PLFA,bacterial PLFA,and total PLFA.In conclusion,plant species under arid climatic conditions significantly affected the microbial community structure in rhizosphere soil.Among the studied plants,natural grassland species generated the most favorable microbial conditions.ZHANG Chao LIU Guo-bin XUE Sha XIAO Lie 2013Journal of Integrative Agriculture2013,12,11:14
3Soil Microbial Community Composition During Natural Recovery in the Loess Plateau, China显示文摘This study aimed to determine the characteristics of soil microbial community composition and its relationship with soil chemical properties during natural recovery in the Loess Plateau.The soil microbial community composition was analyzed by comparing the soil microbial phospholipid fatty acids(PLFAs) of eight croplands abandoned for 1,3,5,10,13,15,20,and 30 yr in the Dunshan watershed,northern Loess Plateau,China.The results showed that soil organic carbon,total nitrogen,soil microbial biomass carbon,and soil microbial biomass nitrogen significantly increased with the abandonment duration,whereas the metabolic quotient significantly decreased.The Shannon richness and Shannon evenness of PLFAs significantly increased after 10 yr of abandonment.Gram-negative,Gram-positive,bacterial,fungal,and total PLFAs linearly increased with increased abandonment duration.Redundancy analysis showed that the abandonment duration was the most important environmental factor in determining the PLFA microbial community composition.The soil microbial PLFAs changed from anteiso-to iso-,unsaturated to saturated,and short-to long-chain during natural recovery.Therefore,in the Loess Plateau,cropland abandonment for natural recovery resulted in the increase of the soil microbial PLFA biomass and microbial PLFA species and changed the microbial from chemolithotrophic to a more heterotrophic community.XIAO Lie LIU Guo-bin XUE Sha ZHANG Chao 2013Journal of Integrative Agriculture2013,12,10:10
4Fractal features of soil profiles under different land use patterns on the Loess Plateau, China显示文摘Fractal theory is becoming an increasingly useful tool to describe soil structure dynamics for a better understanding of the performance of soil systems. Changes in land use patterns significantly affect soil physical, chemical and biological properties. However, limited information is available on the fractal characteristics of deep soil layers under different land use patterns. In this study, the fractal dimensions of particle size distribution(PSD) and micro-aggregates in the 0–500 cm soil profile and soil anti-erodibility in the 0–10 cm soil profile for 10 typical land use patterns were investigated in the Zhifanggou Watershed on the Loess Plateau, China. The 10 typical land use patterns were: slope cropland, two terraced croplands, check-dam cropland, woodland, two shrublands, orchard, artificial and natural grasslands. The results showed that the fractal dimensions of PSD and micro-aggregates were all significantly influenced by soil depths, land use patterns and their interaction. The plantations of shrubland, woodland and natural grassland increased the amount of larger micro-aggregates, and decreased the fractal dimensions of micro-aggregates in the 0–40 cm soil profile. And they also improved the aggregate state and aggregate degree and decreased dispersion rate in the 0–10 cm soil profile. The results indicated that fractal theory can be used to characterize soil structure under different land use patterns and fractal dimensions of micro-aggregates were more effective in this regard. 5Quality of life and emotional change for middle -aged and elderly patients with diabetic retinopathy显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the SF-36, Diabetes Specificity Quality of Life Scale (DSQL) and anxiety and depression symptoms and investigate its changes in proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) by vitrectomy interventions. METHODS:The present study included 108 diabetic retinopathy (DR) patients:54 with PDR and 54 with non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR). Each healthy control group (n =54) sociodemographically matched to DR groups was established respectively. The quality of life, anxiety and depression symptoms were evaluated and analyzed on preoperative and postoperative month 1 using SF-36, DSQL and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). · RESULTS:DR patients described impaired HRQL (Health Related Quality of life, SF -36) in 6 out of 8 subscales, including ‘Body Health’, ‘Body RoleFunction’,‘General Health’,‘Society Function’,‘Emotion Role Function’and‘Mental Health’. Compared with controls, DR patients (NPDR and PDR) suffered from statistically significantly impaired HRQL (SF-36 Summary score) (P< 0.05). By surgical intervention, the anxiety and depression score were significantly reduced, while the health and quality of life (SF-36 Summary scores and DSQL scores) was improved in patients with PDR (P <0.05). CONCLUSION:DR patients were affected in mentation and quality of life. 6Analysis of macular microvasculature and thickness after ICL implantation in patients with myopia using optical coherence tomography显示文摘AIM:To investigate changes in macular vessels and thickness in myopic eyes after intraocular collamer lens(ICL)implantation using quantitative optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA).METHODS:This retrospective included 73 myopic eyes of 73 patients(average age,27.53±6.16 y)who underwent ICL implantation(28 eyes were Toric ICL).Axial length(AL),uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA),refractive dioptre(RD),intraocular pressure(IOP)and OCTA were measured and compared with before and 1 wk,1,and 3 mo after surgery.OCTA was used to image vessel density(VD)and skeleton density(SD)in both the superficial(SCP)and deep capillary plexus(DCP).Central retinal thickness(CRT)and ganglion cellinner plexiform layer thickness(GCT)were also measured.Changes between pre-and postoperative measurements were analysed by repeated measures analysis of variance.RESULTS:Compared with preoperative data,postoperative data on UCVA revealed significant improvements in all patients(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in IOP.After the operation,CRT and GCT exhibited significant changes(P<0.05).Among these measures,CRT was significantly higher at one and three months postoperative(all P<0.01).GCT was significantly higher at 1 wk,1,and 3 mo postoperative(all P<0.01).Changes in VD and SD were nonsignificant in both the SCP and DCP.There was no difference in postoperative changes between the ICL and Toric ICL groups.CONCLUSION:ICL and Toric ICL implantation both have good efficacy and safety for myopic eyes,but macular area changes that occur after surgery need attention.Qiu-Jian Zhu Meng-Yu Wang Peng Yu Xiao-Suo Liang Lie Ma Hai-Xiang Xiao You Yuan 2020International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2020,13,12:3

8Freeze–thaw effects on erosion process in loess slope under simulated rainfall显示文摘Seasonal freeze–thaw processes have led to severe soil erosion in the middle and high latitudes.The area affected by freeze–thaw erosion in China exceeds 13%of the national territory.So understanding the effect of freeze–thaw on erosion process is of great significance for soil and water conservation as well as for ecological engineering.In this study,we designed simulated rainfall experiments to investigate soil erosion processes under two soil conditions,unfrozen slope(UFS)and frozen slope(FS),and three rainfall intensities of 0.6,0.9 and 1.2 mm/min.The results showed that the initial runoff time of FS occurred much earlier than that of the UFS.Under the same rainfall intensity,the runoff of FS is 1.17–1.26 times that of UFS;and the sediment yield of FS is 6.48–10.49 times that of UFS.With increasing rainfall time,rills were produced on the slope.After the appearance of the rills,the sediment yield on the FS accounts for 74%–86%of the total sediment yield.Rill erosion was the main reason for the increase in soil erosion rate on FS,and the reduction in water percolation resulting from frozen layers was one of the important factors leading to the advancement of rills on slope.A linear relationship existed between the cumulative runoff and the sediment yield of UFS and FS(R2>0.97,P<0.01).The average mean weight diameter(MWD)on the slope erosion particles was as follows:UFS0.9(73.84μm)>FS0.6(72.30μm)>UFS1.2(72.23μm)>substrate(71.23μm)>FS1.2(71.06μm)>FS0.9(70.72μm).During the early stage of the rainfall,the MWD of the FS was relatively large.However,during the middle to late rainfall,the particle composition gradually approached that of the soil substrate.Under different rainfall intensities,the mean soil erodibility(MK)of the FS was 7.22 times that of the UFS.The ratio of the mean regression coefficient C2(MC2)between FS and UFS was roughly correspondent with MK.Therefore,the parameter C2 can be used to evaluate soil erodibility after the appearance of the rills.This article explored the influence mechanism of freeze–thaw effects on loess soil erosion and provided a theoretical basis for further studies on soil erosion in the loess hilly regions.SU Yuanyi LI Peng REN Zongping XIAO Lie ZHANG Hui 2020Journal of Arid Land2020,12,6:2

10Has“Grain for Green”threaten food security on the Loess Plateau of China?显示文摘There is debating over the question of whether the large-scale‘Grain for Green’program on the Loess Plateau of China threatens regional food security.Self-sufficiency index and cropland pressure index were used to assess food security on the Loess Plateau after the implementation of revegetation program.The results showed that the‘Grain for Green’program initially had a considerable impact on regional food security,where grain yield fell from 1999 to 2001,resulting in a lower grain self-sufficiency and increased farmland stress.Subsequently,grain yield in this region increased due to the elevated agricultural material input and increased construction of terraces and check dams.The grain self-sufficiency index would have increased to 96.55%if there were improvements to the agricultural conditions,such as fertilization and irrigation,which would have resulted in an increase in the crop yield per unit of 20%.However,the grain self-sufficiency increased to 105.25%via the construction of terraces and check dams.Thus,the government should further expand the‘Grain for Green’program in coordination with improvements to the agricultural production conditions and the construction of terraces and check dams on the Loess Plateau.Peng Shi Zhaohong Feng Haidong Gao Peng Li Xiaoming Zhang Tiantian Zhu Zhanbin Li Guoce Xu Zongping Ren Lie Xiao 2020Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2020,6,1:1

12The response of soil organic carbon to climate and soil texture in China显示文摘Soil organic carbon(SOC)plays an essential role in the carbon cycle and global warming mitigation,and it varies spatially in relation to other soil and environmental properties.But the national distributions and the impact mechanisms of SOC remain debated in China.Therefore,how soil texture and climate factors affect the SOC content and the regional differences in SOC content were explored by analyzing 7857 surface soil samples with different land-use.The results showed that the SOC content in China,with a mean value of 11.20 g·kg^(-1),increased gradually from north to south.The SOC content of arable land in each geographical area was lower than in grassland and forest-land.Although temperature also played a specific role in the SOC content,precipitation was the most critical climate factor.The SOC content was positively correlated with the silt and clay content.The lower the temperature,the greater the effect of environmental factors on SOC.In contrast,the higher the temperature,the more significant impact of soil texture on SOC.The regional difference in SOC highlights the importance of soil responses to climate change.Tempera-ture and soil texture should be explicitly considered when predicting potential future carbon cycle and sequestration.Yi ZHANG Peng LI Xiaojun LIU Lie XIAO Tanbao LI Dejun WANG 2022Frontiers of Earth Science2022,16,4:1

16Hybrid model for muon tomography and quantitative analysis of image quality显示文摘Muon tomography is a novel method for the non-destructive imaging of materials based on muon rays,which are highly penetrating in natural background radiation.Currently,the most commonly used imaging methods include muon radiography and muon tomography.A previously studied method known as coinciding muon trajectory density tomography,which utilizes muonic secondary particles,is proposed to image low and medium atomic number(Z)materials.However,scattering tomography is mostly used to image high-Z materials,and coinciding muon trajectory density tomography exhibits a hollow phenomenon in the imaging results owing to the self-absorption effect.To address the shortcomings of the individual imaging methods,hybrid model tomography combining scattering tomography and coinciding muon trajectory density tomography is proposed and verified.In addition,the peak signal-to-noise ratio was introduced to quantitatively analyze the image quality.Different imaging models were simulated using the Geant4 toolkit to confirm the advantages of this innovative method.The simulation results showed that hybrid model tomography can image centimeter-scale materials with low,medium,and high Z simultaneously.For high-Z materials with similar atomic numbers,this method can clearly distinguish those with apparent differences in density.According to the peak signal-to-noise ratio of the analysis,the reconstructed image quality of the new method was significantly higher than that of the individual imaging methods.This study provides a reliable approach to the compatibility of scattering tomography and coinciding muon trajectory density tomography.Si-Yuan Luo Yu-He Huang Xuan-Tao Ji Lie He Wan-Cheng Xiao Feng-Jiao Luo Song Feng Min Xiao Xiao-Dong Wang 2022Nuclear Science and Techniques2022,33,7:1
