Experimental study on three dimensional movements of particles Ⅰ Effects of particle diameter on velocity and concentration distributions显示文摘Based on the three Dimensional Particle Tracking Velocimetry(3D PTV) system, the characteristics of motion of particles with four different diameters were investigated under the steady flow conditions. The longitudinal average velocity profiles of these particles were in accordance with Log-law,while the vertical and transverse velocities remained very low with minimal fluctuation. The time-average velocity of particles in the bed load layer was 8.50u,close to Bagnold's assumption U n-ω. The vertical concentration distribution of particles in the suspension region agreed with the Rouse equation. When the diameter of particles was relatively large, there existed an evident concentration gradient in the bed load layer.Limo TANG Xingkui WANG 2009International Journal of Sediment Research2009,24,2:6
Experimental study on three dimensional movements of particles Ⅱ Effects of particle diameter on turbulence characteristics显示文摘Based on the 3D PTV(Particle Tracking Velocimetry) measuring system, the 3D movement characteristics of particles with four different diameters were investigated. Under specific flow conditions, the impact of particle diameters on 3D motion of particles was studied, and the turbulence characteristics were analyzed by different statistical methods. The results showed that the turbulence intensity of coarse particle decreased as the diameter increased. In near wall region, the probability density distributions of longitudinal and vertical fluctuation velocities both deviated from the normal distribution;while in the outer region, the probability density distribution of vertical fluctuation velocity approximately agreed with the normal distribution.Limo TANG Xingkui WANG 2009International Journal of Sediment Research2009,24,2:5
Viability of primary cultured retinal neurons in a hyperglycemic condition显示文摘The retina of Wistar rats within 1-3 days of birth were dissociated into a retinal cell suspension using 0.05% trypsin digestion. The cell suspension was incubated in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium for 24 hours, followed by neurobasal medium for 5-7 days. Nissl staining showed that 79.86% of primary cultured retinal cells were positive and immunocytochemical staining showed that the purity of anti-neurofilament heavy chain antibody-positive cells was 71.53%, indicating that the primary culture system of rat retinal neurons was a reliable and stable cell system with neurons as the predominant cell type. The primary cultured retinal neurons were further treated with 0, 5.5, 15, 25, and 35 mM glucose for 24, 48, and 72 hours. The thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide test and flow cytometry showed that with increasing glucose concentration and treatment duration, the viability of retinal neurons was reduced, and apoptosis increased. In particular, 35 mM glucose exhibited the most significant effect at 72 hours. Thus, rat retinal neurons treated with 35 mM glucose for 72 hours can be used to simulate a neuronal model of diabetic retinopathy.Yu Liu Xueliang Xu Renhong Tang Guoping Chen Xiang Lei Limo Gao Wenjie Li Yu Chen 2013Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,5:3
EFFECT OF FLOW CONDITIONS ON 3D MOVEMENT CHARACTERISTICS OF PARTICLES显示文摘In steady uniform flows with different water depths, experiments with single particles were performed using a Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) technique, and then the mechanism of particle movement was studied statistically. The experimental results showed that the average longitudinal velocity profile of particles conformed to the Log-law. The mean Von Karman constant, к, was 0.393, and the streamwise velocity of particles was lower than that in clear water flow by a ratio of 0.826. The vertical distribution of particle concentration in the suspended load region agreed with the Rouse equation, and the average value of the compensation factor, β, was determined to be 1.50. The turbulence intensity of the particle fluctuation velocity decreased with the increase in the Reynolds number Re.Limo TANG Shanghong ZHANG Mingzhong YU Xingkui WANG 2006International Journal of Sediment Research2006,21,4:0
Experimental study on average movement characteristics of bed-load particles显示文摘The three-dimensional movements of bed-load particles in an open channel with different grain diameters and different specific gravities under the conditions of different hydraulic gradient are measured by means of particle tracking velocimetry(PTV)technique. The average movement characteristics of the particles are analyzed by statistics. The results show that the longitudinal average velocities of the particles neither agree with the law suggested by Einstein nor obey the law assumed by Bagnold.Einstein’s law is that the particle velocity is equal to 11.6 times of shear velocity, and the Bagnold’s law assumes the velocity equal to the difference between flow velocity at corresponding water depth and settling velocity of particle. Two formulas for determining the velocity of particle in the forms of expression given by Einstein and Bagnold are obtained according to the statistical results of experimental data, respectively.Limo TANG Xingkui WANG 2009Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2009,3,4:0
Laboratory measurements of the fall velocity of fine sediment in an estuarine environment显示文摘The study of the fall velocity variation of fine sediment in estuarine areas plays an important role in determining how various factors affect the flocculation process.Previous experimental studies have focused solely on the relation between the median fall velocity and influencing factors, while in the current study, the variation of the fall velocity in quiescent water also was examined. The experimental results showed that the vertical distribution of sediment concentration was more uneven, and larger variations occurred earlier during the settling process under higher salinity and/or sediment concentration conditions. The fall velocity initially increased then decreased over time, peaking at^20 min after settling began, and stabilizing at a value similar to that in freshwater, regardless of the initial sediment concentration and salinity combinations.Along the water depth, the fall velocity increased monotonically with a gradually decreasing gradient. The median fall velocity increased then decreased with increased salinity. The salinity at which the peak fall velocity occurred depended on the initial sediment concentration. The relation between the median fall velocity and initial sediment concentration displayed an obvious two-stage pattern(i.e.,accelerated flocculation and decelerated, hindered settling)at higher salinities;whereas the maximum median fall velocity was observed at two consecutive sediment concentration values under lower salinity conditions. Finally,an empirical equation estimating the median fall velocity of cohesive fine sediment was formulated, incorporating the effects of both salinity and sediment concentration.Jiaqi Yang Limo Tang Yuntong She Jiao Sun 2020International Journal of Sediment Research2020,35,2:0
