1Biodegradation of organochlorine pesticide endosulfan by bacterial strain Alcaligenes faecalis JBW4显示文摘The recently discovered endosulfan-degrading bacterial strain Alcaligenes faecalis JBW4 was isolated from activated sludge. This strain is able to use endosulfan as a carbon and energy source. The optimal conditions for the growth of strain JBW4 and for biodegradation by this strain were identified, and the metabolic products of endosulfan degradation were studied in detail. The maximum level of endosulfan biodegradation by strain JBW4 was obtained using broth at an initial pH of 7.0, an incubation temperature of 40°C and an endosulfan concentration of 100 mg/L. The concentration of endosulfan was determined by gas chromatography. Strain JBW4 was able to degrade 87.5% of α-endosulfan and 83.9% of β-endosulfan within 5 days. These degradation rates are much higher than the previously reported bacterial strains. Endosulfan diol and endosulfan lactone were the major metabolites detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry; endosulfan sulfate, which is a persistent and toxic metabolite, was not detected. These results suggested that A. faecalis JBW4 degrades endosulfan via a non-oxidative pathway. The biodegradation of endosulfan by A. faecalis is reported for the first time. 4Battery Voltage Discharge Rate Prediction and Video Content Adaptation in Mobile Devices on 3G Access Networks显示文摘According to Cisco, mobile multimedia services now account for more than half the total amount of Internet traffic. This trend is burdening mobile devices in terms of power consumption, and as a result, more effort is needed to devise a range of power-saving techniques. While most power-saving techniques are based on sleep scheduling of network interfaces, little has been done to devise multimedia content adaptation techniques. In this paper, we propose a multiple linear regression model that predicts the battery voltage discharge rate for several video send bit rates in a VoIP application. The battery voltage discharge rate needs to be accurately estimated in order to estimate battery life in critical VoIP contexts, such as emergency communication. In our proposed model, the range of video send bitrates is carefully chosen in order to maintain an acceptable VoIP quality of experience. 5How to Manage Multimedia Traffic:Based on QoE or QoT?显示文摘Internet of Things(IoT) applications such as environmental monitoring, healthcare, surveillance, event recognition and traffic control are amongst the most commonly deployed applications over the Internet. These applications involve multimedia content that has to be collected, processed and delivered appropriately over the Internet for further processing by human or machines. These applications come with their own set of requirements such as quality, computational power and bandwidth. It is, therefore, vital to minimize power consumption and bandwidth usage in IoT devices without compromising the quality of multimedia delivery. Since the delivery of the multimedia can be destined to a machine or human, it is important to distinguish multimedia quality between the two. Quality of Experience(QoE) for video services involves human visual system, but what will involve a machine or process?To distinguish between the two, this paper defines a new concept of Acceptable Quality of Things(AQoT) which involves IoT devices and their applications. AQoT aims at minimizing bandwidth without compromising quality in IoT devices.
