| 6 | Debris Flow Hazard Assessment Using Set Pair Analysis Models:Take Beichuan County as an Example显示文摘Assessment of debris flow hazards is important for developing measures to mitigate the loss of life and property and to minimize environmental damage. Two modified uncertainty models, Set Pair Analysis(SPA) and modified Set Pair Analysis(mSPA), were suggested to assess the regional debris flow hazard. A case study was conducted in seven towns of the Beichuan county,Sichuan Province, China, to test and compare the application of these two models in debris flow hazard assessment. The results showed that mSPA only can fit for value-variables, but not for non value-variable assessment indexes, Furthermore, as for a given assessment index xi, mSPA only considers two cases,namely, when grade value increases with xi and when grade value decreases with xi. Thus, mSPA can not be used for debris flow hazard assessment but SPA is credible for the assessment because there are no limitations when using SPA model to assess the debris flow hazard. | 8 | Seasonal variability in free-living marine nematode community structure in a sandy beach of the Taiping Bay of Qingdao,China显示文摘Nematode assemblage composition, trophic structure and biodiversity were followed over an annual cycle in a sandy beach of the Taiping Bay of Qingdao, China. Nematode assemblage in the sandy beach maintained a high genus diversity (75 genera). Microlaimus and Bathylaimus were the dominant genus of the nematode assemblage, accounting for 66% of the total nematode abundance. The nematodes' dominant trophic structure changed seasonally as a response to the seasonal changes in food quality. Epigrowth-feeder nematodes (2A) were the dominant trophic groups in the trophic structure with the highest abundance in spring because of phytoplankton bloom, while the feeding type (1B) showed higher abundance in summer that was due to the increasing of sediment detritus after spring bloom. Furthermore, species diversity and evenness calculated on nematodes identified to the genus level displayed significant temporal changes, which was also reflected by the index of trophic diversity. According to the cluster analysis, the nematode community structure of the whole year was clearly separated into two periods (A and B). Biota-Environment matching (BIOENV) results showed that seawater temperature,sediment Chl a and grain size were responsible for the nematode community structure variation in spring and summer period (Period A). | 10 | Analysis of Runoff in Ungauged Mountain Watersheds in Sichuan,China using Kinematic-wave-based GIUH Model显示文摘Floods are one of the most common natural hazards occurring all around the world.However,the knowledge of the origins of a food and its possible magnitude in a given region remains unclear yet.This lack of understanding is particularly acute in mountainous regions with large degrees in Sichuan Province,China,where runoff is seldom measured.The nature of streamflow in a region is related to the time and spatial distribution of rainfall quantity and watershed geomorphology.The geomorphologic characteristics are the channel network and surrounding landscape which transform the rainfall input into an output hydrograph at the outlet of the watershed.With the given geomorphologic properties of the watershed,theoretically the hydrological response function can be determined hydraulically without using any recorded data of past rainfall or runoff events.In this study,a kinematic-wave-based geomorphologic instantaneous unit hydrograph (KW-GIUH) model was adopted and verified to estimate runoff in ungauged areas.Two mountain watersheds,the Yingjing River watershed and Tianquan River watershed in Sichuan were selected as study sites.The geomorphologic factors of the two watersheds were obtained by using a digital elevation model (DEM) based on the topographic database obtained from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission of US's NASA.The tests of the model on the two watersheds were performed both at gauged and ungauged sites.Comparison between the simulated and observed hydrographs for a number of rainstorms at the gauged sites indicated the potential of the KW-GIUH model as a useful tool for runoff analysis in these regions.Moreover,to simulate possible concentrated rainstorms that could result in serious flooding in these areas,synthetic rainfall hyetographs were adopted as input to the KW-GIUH model to obtain the flow hydrographs at two ungauged sites for different return period conditions.Hydroeconomic analysis can be performed in the future to select the optimum design return period for determining the flood control work. | CAO Shuyou LEE Kwan Tun HO Juiyi LIU Xingnian HUANG Er YANG Kejun | 2010 | Journal of Mountain Science2010,7,2: | 5 |
| 11 | Recombinant scorpion insectotoxin AaIT kills specifically insect cells but not human cellss显示文摘The nucleotide sequence deduced from the amino acid sequence of the scorpion insectotoxin AaIT was chemically synthesized and was expressed in Escherichia coli. The authenticity of this in vitro expressed peptide was confirmed by N-terminal peptide sequencing. Two groups of bioassays, artificial diet incorporation assay and contact insecticidal effect assay, were carried out separately to verify the toxicity of this recombinant toxin. At the end of a 24 h experimental period, more than 60% of the testing diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) larvae were killed in both groups with LCs0 value of 18.4 uM and 0.70 μM respectively. Cytotoxicity assay using cultured Sf9 insect cells and MCF-7 human cells demonstrated that the toxin AaIT had specific toxicity against insect cells but not human cells. Only 0.13 μM recombinant toxin was needed to kill 50% of cultured insect cells while as much as 1.3μM toxin had absolutely no effect on human cells. Insect cells produced obvious intrusions from their plasma membrane before broken up. | 12 | Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection-Associated Mortality during Pulmonary Tuberculosis Treatment in Six Provinces of China显示文摘Objective To investigate the risk factors attributable to tuberculosis-related deaths in areas with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) infection epidemics. Methods A prospective cohort study of newly registered patients in tuberculosis(TB) dispensaries in six representative Chinese provinces was conducted from September 1, 2009 to August 31, 2011. Risk factors for TB-associated death were identified through logistic regression analysis. Results Of 19,103 newly registered pulmonary TB patients, 925(4.8%) were found to be HIV-positive. Miliary TB and acid-fast bacillus smear-negative TB were more common among these patients. Out of a total of 322(1.7%) deaths that occurred during TB treatment, 85(26%) of the patients were co-infected with HIV. Multivariate analysis revealed that HIV infection was the strongest predictor of death [adjusted odds ratio(aO R) 7.86]. Other significant mortality risk factors included presentation with miliary TB(aO R 4.10; 95% confidence interval: 2.14-7.88), ≥35 years of age(aO R 3.04), non-Han ethnicity(aO R 1.67), and farming as an occupation(aO R 1.59). For patients with TB/HIV co-infection, miliary TB was the strongest risk factor for death(aO R 5.48). A low CD4 count(≤ 200 cells/μL)(aO R 3.27) at the time of TB treatment initiation and a lack of antiretroviral therapy(ART) administration(aO R 3.78) were also correlated with an increased risk of death. Conclusion Infection with HIV was independently associated with increased mortality during TB treatment. | 14 | Performance Comparison and Analysis of IP and MPLS Networks显示文摘With the increasing need for Quality of Service( QoS ),the traditional IP network is becoming less competitive. In order to give readers quantitative and convictive performance comparisons between IP and MPLS network,we choose Berkeleys NS 2 simulator [1] in our research on network throughput and end to end TCP behavior. Using NS 2 simulator,we analyze the performance of a network with MPLS Traffic Engineering( MPLS TE ).Specifically,the throughput and TCP end to end delay time under two different queuing algorithms are obtained and compared between the MPLS network and traditional IP network. The method is based on the reaction of luminol with ferricyanid in sodium hydroxide medium sensitized by gossypol. Under the optimum conditions, the CL intensity is proportional to the concentration of gossypol over the range of 1.11×10-17-2.78×10-16 mol/L in acid solution and 8.00×10-11-7.39×10-8 mol/L in neutral solution with correlation coefficients 0.9983 and 0.9905, respectively. The detection limits is 1.60×10-18 mol/L (S/N=3). | 17 | A class of fully third-order accurate projection methods for solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations显示文摘In this paper, a fully third-order accurate projection method for solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is proposed. To construct the scheme, a continuous projection procedure is firstly presented. We then derive a sufficient condition for the continuous projection equations to be temporally third-order accurate approximations of the original Navier-Stokes equations by means of the localtruncation-error-analysis technique. The continuous projection equations are discretized temporally and spatially to third-order accuracy on the staggered grids, resulting in a fully third-order discrete projection scheme. The possibility to design higher-order projection methods is thus demonstrated in the present paper. A heuristic stability analysis is performed on this projection method showing the probability of its being stable. The stability of the present scheme is further verified through numerical tests. | 18 | Stress corrosion cracking behavior of 310S in supercritical water with different oxygen concentrations显示文摘The effect of dissolved oxygen(DO) on the stress corrosion cracking(SCC) of 310 S in supercritical water was investigated using slow-strain-rate tensile tests.The tensile properties, fracture morphology, and distribution of the chemical composition of the oxide were analyzed to evaluate the SCC susceptibility of 310 S. The results showed that the rupture elongation decreased significantly as the degree of DO increased. A brittle fracture mode was observed on the fracture surface, and only intergranular cracking was observed on the surface of the gauge section, regardless of the DO. The newly treated steel shows excellent mechanical properties and the total elongation of the steel increases from 6.6% to 14.8% compared with that of hot stamped and quenched steel. | 20 | Hot Deformation Behavior of Low Carbon Steel during Compression at Elevated Temperature显示文摘Hot compression tests of low carbon steel were carried out on Gleeble-3500 system in the temperature range from 750 to 900 ℃ and in the strain rate range from 0.001 to 1.0 s-1, and the associated microstructural evolution was studied by observations with a metallographic microscope. The results show that the stress-strain curves exhibit a peak stress at critical strain, after which the fl ow stresses decrease monotonically until reaching high strains, showing a dynamic fl ow softening. The peak stress level decreases with increasing deformation temperature and decreasing strain rate, which can be represented by the Zener-Hollomon parameter Z in the hyperbolic sine equation. The fl ow stress increases with increasing strain rate and decreasing deforming temperature. The fl ow stress can be described by constitutive equation in hyperbolic sine function and can also be described by a Zener–Hollomon parameter Z. With increasing deformation temperature and decreasing strain rate, the grain size as well as the volume fraction of the recrystallized grains increase.
