1New eolian red clay sequence on the western Chinese Loess Plateau linked to onset of Asian desertification about 25 Ma ago显示文摘The expansion of inland Asia deserts has considerably influenced the environmental, social and economic activities in Asia. Aridification of inland Asia, especially timing of the initiation of Asian desertification, is a contentious topic in paleoclimatology. Late Cenozoic eolian loess-red clay sequences on the Chinese Loess Plateau, which possess abundant paleoclimatic and paleo-environmental information, can be regarded as an indicator of inland Asia desertification. Here we present a detailed magnetostratigraphic investigation of a new red clay sequence about 654 m in Zhuanglang located at the western Chinese Loess Plateau. Sedimentological, geochemical, mineralogical, and quartz morphological lines of evidence show that the red clay is of eolian origin. Magnetostratigraphic correlations indicate that this core sequence spans from 25.6 to 4.8 Ma, and typical eolian red clay appears as early as 25 Ma. This extends the lower limit of the red clay on the Chinese Loess Plateau from the previously thought early Miocene back into the late Oligocene. This new red clay record further implies that the inland Asia desertification was initiated at least by the late Oligocene. 2Membrane fouling in ultrafiltration of natural water after pretreatment to different extents显示文摘The combined fouling during ultrafiltration(UF) of surface water pretreated to different extents was investigated to disclose the roles of polysaccharides, proteins, and inorganic particles in UF membrane fouling. Both reversible and irreversible fouling decreased with enhanced pretreatment(biologically active carbon(BAC) treatment and sand filtration). The sand filter effluent fouled the membrane very slowly. The UF membrane removed turbidity to less than 0.1 nephelometric turbidity unit(NTU), reduced polysaccharides by 25.4%–29.9%, but rejected few proteins. Both polysaccharides and inorganic particles were detected on the fouled membranes, but inorganic particles could be effectively removed by backwashing. The increase of turbidity in the sand filter effluent to 3.05 NTU did not significantly increase the fouling rate, but an increase in the turbidity in the BAC effluent to6.11 NTU increased the fouling rate by more than 100%. The results demonstrated that the polysaccharide, not the protein, constituents of biopolymers were responsible for membrane fouling. Membrane fouling was closely associated with a small fraction of polysaccharides in the feed water. Inorganic particles exacerbated membrane fouling only when the concentration of fouling–inducing polysaccharides in the feed water was relatively high. 3A large congenital and solitary intrahepatic arterioportal fistula in an old woman显示文摘Arterioportal fistula(APF)is a rare cause of portal hypertension and may lead to death.APF can be congenital,post-traumatic,iatrogenic(transhepatic intervention or biopsy)or related to ruptured hepatic artery aneurysms.Congenital APF is a rare condition even in children.In this case report,we describe a 73-year-old woman diagnosed as APF by ultrasonography,computed tomography,and hepatic artery selective arteriography.The fistula was embolized twice but failed,and she still suffered from alimentary tract hemorrhage.Then,selective arteriography of the hepatic artery was performed again and venae coronaria ventriculi and short gastric vein were embolized.During the 2-year follow-up,the patient remained asymptomatic.We therefore argue that embolization of venae coronaria ventriculi and short gastric vein may be an effective treatment modality for intrahepatic APF with severe upper gastrointestinal bleeding.Zhen-Ya Lu Jian-Yang Ao Tian-An Jiang Zhi-Yi Peng Zhan-Kun Wang 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,13:7
4High glucose causes apoptosis of rabbit corneal epithelial cells involving activation of PERK-eIF2α-CHOP-caspase-12 signaling pathway显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effect of high concentration of glucose(HCG) on double stranded RNA-activated protein kinase-like ER kinase(PERK)-eukaryotic initiation factor-2α(eIF2α)-transcription factor C/EBP homologous protein(CHOP)-cysteine aspartate specific proteinase(caspase-12) signaling pathway activation and apoptosis in rabbit corneal epithelial cells(RCECs). METHODS: RCECs were treated by different concentrations of glucose for 0-48 h. The expressions of PERK, p-PERK, eIF2α, p-eIF2α, 78 k Da glucose-regulated protein 78(GRP78), CHOP, B-cell lymphoma 2(Bcl-2), B-cell lymphoma-2-associated X protein(Bax) and caspase-12 were determined by Western blot. Apoptosis was detected by TUNEL assay. Meanwhile, the function of PERK-eI F2α-CHOP-caspase-12 signaling pathway activation in high glucose-induced apoptosis was evaluated using PERK inhibitor, GSK2606414. RESULTS: HCG significantly promoted the expression of p-PERK, p-eIF2α, GRP78, CHOP, Bax and cleaved caspase-12 in RCECs(P<0.05), while remarkably decreased the expression of Bcl-2 and caspase-12(P<0.05), and the alterations caused by glucose were in concentration-and time-dependent manners. Meanwhile, PERK and eIF2α expressions were not affected in all groups(P>0.05). TUNEL assay showed that the apoptosis rate of RCECs in the HCG group increased significantly in contrast with that in the normal concentration of glucose or osmotic pressure control group(P<0.05), and the apoptosis rate increased with the increase of glucose concentration within limits(P<0.05). GSK2606414 down-regulated the expression of p-PERK and p-eI F2α in the HCG group(P<0.05), while still did not affect the expression of PERK and eIF2α among groups(P>0.05). Correspondingly, GSK2606414 also significantly reduced the apoptosis rate induced by high glucose(P<0.05). 6Two novel bocaparvovirus species identified in wild Himalayan marmots显示文摘Bocaparvovirus(BOV) is a genetically diverse group of DNA viruses and a possible cause of respiratory, enteric, and neurological diseases in humans and animals. Here, two highly divergent BOVs(tentatively named as Himalayan marmot BOV,HMBOV1 and HMBOV2) were identified in the livers and feces of wild Himalayan marmots in China, by viral metagenomic analysis. Five of 300 liver samples from Himalayan marmots were positive for HMBOV1 and five of 99 fecal samples from these animals for HMBOV2. Their nearly complete genome sequences are 4,672 and 4,887 nucleotides long, respectively, with a standard genomic organization and containing protein-coding motifs typical for BOVs. Based on their NS1, NP1, and VP1,HMBOV1 and HMBOV2 are most closely related to porcine BOV SX/1-2(approximately 77.0%/50.0%, 50.0%/53.0%, and79.0%/54.0% amino acid identity, respectively). Phylogenetic analysis of these three proteins showed that HMBOV1 and HMBOV2 formed two distinctly independent branches in BOVs. According to these results, HMBOV1 and HMBOV2 are two different novel species in the Bocaparvovirus genus. Their identification expands our knowledge of the genetic diversity and evolution of BOVs. 8Effects of ketamine on mouse hippocampal inflammatory cytokines IL-6,IL-1β and TNF-α levels in acute and chronic administration models显示文摘OBJECTIVE Ketamine is an injectable anesthetic and recreational drug of abuse commonly used worldwide. Many experimental studies have shown that ketamine can impair cognitive function and induce psychotic states. Neuroinflammation has been suggested to play an important role in neurodegeneration. Meanwhile,ketamine has been showed to modulate the levels of inflammatory cytokines.Therefore,we sought to investigate whether the effects of ketamine on the central nervous system is associated with the inflammatory cytokines. METHODS We established acute(single or multiple intraperitoneal injection) and chronic(six months daily intraperitoneal injection) ketamine administration models in C57BL/6 mice,evaluated the spatial recognition memory and emotional response by applying the Y maze test and open field test. We analyzed the changes of inflammatory cytokines interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-1β(IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) levels in mouse hippocampus,employing Western blot,quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction(qR T-PCR) and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS Ketamine induced spatial recognition memory deficit,reduced anxiety-like behaviors in mice after chronic administration,and it was dose-dependent. Moreover,we found that ketamine could increase the levels of mouse hippocampal inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-1β after single,multiple and long-term administration in a dose-dependent manner. However,the level of TNF-α expressed differently in mouse hippocampus under different conditions. Single administration of ketamine increased the level of TNF-α,whereas multiple and long-term administration decreased it significantly. We considered that TNF-α might exist bi-directional regulatory pathway,which was associated with the dose and duration of ketamine administration. 9lonization and dissociation of acetonitrile by intense femtosecond laser pulse显示文摘Photoionization and photodissociation of CH3CN were studied by a linear time of flight mass spectrometer coupled with 800 nm, 50 fs laser pulses at intensities of 6.3×1013-1.2×1014 W/cm2. The laser power dependences for principal ions CH3CN+, CH2CN+, CHCN+ and CCN+ were measured, which are consistent with the numbers of photons required to produce the ions via multiphoton ionization and dissociation. 10Dynamic flow resistivity based model for sound absorption of multi-layer sintered fibrous metals显示文摘The sound absorbing performance of the sintered fibrous metallic materials is investigated by employing a dynamic flow resistivity based model,in which the porous material is modeled as randomly distributed parallel fibers specified by two basic physical parameters:fiber diameter and porosity.A self-consistent Brinkman approach is applied to the calculation of the dynamic resistivity of flow perpendicular to the cylindrical fibers.Based on the solved flow resistivity,the sound absorption of single layer fibrous material can be obtained by adopting the available empirical equations.Moreover,the recursion formulas of surface impedance are applied to the calculation of the sound absorption coefficient of multi-layer fibrous materials.Experimental measurements are conducted to validate the proposed model,with good agreement achieved between model predictions and tested data.Numerical calculations with the proposed model are subsequently performed to quantify the influences of fiber diameter,porosity and backed air gap on sound absorption of uniform(single-layer)fibrous materials.Results show that the sound absorption increases with porosity at higher frequencies but decreases with porosity at lower frequencies.The sound absorption also decreases with fiber diameter at higher frequencies but increases at lower frequencies.The sound absorption resonance is shifted to lower frequencies with air gap.For multi-layer fibrous materials,gradient distributions of both fiber diameter and porosity are introduced and their effects on sound absorption are assessed.It is found that increasing the porosity and fiber diameter variation improves sound absorption in the low frequency range.The model provides the possibility to tailor the sound absorption capability of the sintered fibrous materials by optimizing the gradient distributions of key physical parameters.MENG Han AO QingBo TANG HuiPing XIN FengXian LU TianJian 2014Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,11:3
11Protective effects of a composition of Chinese herbs- Gurigumu-13 on retinal ganglion cell apoptosis in DBA/2J glaucoma mouse model显示文摘AIM: To explore the concrete mechanism of a Mongolian compound medicine-Gurigumu-13(GRGM) for glaucoma treatment. METHODS: DBA/2 J mice, as glaucoma models, were intragastric administrated with GRGM to study the effect of GRGM on retinal ganglion cells(RGCs). The loss of RGCs was evaluated with the number of RGCs and axons. The expression of the target protein of RGCs or mouse retinas was determined by Western blot. The relative content of malondialdehyde(MDA) was examined by ELISA assay.RESULTS: GRGM distinctly improved retina damage via increasing the number of neurons, RGCs and axons in a concentration dependent manner. Meanwhile, GRGM obviously decreased the high level of MDA and the expression of oxidative stress-related proteins in retinas of DBA/2 J mice, but promoted the expression of antioxidant proteins. 13Identification of nagilactone E as a protein synthesis inhibitor with anticancer activity显示文摘Norditerpenoids and dinorditerpenoids represent diterpenoids widely distributed in the genus Podocarpus with notable chemical structures and biological activities.We previously reported that nagilactone E(NLE),a dinorditerpenoid isolated from Podocarpus nagi,possessed anticancer effects against lung cancer cells in vitro.In this study we investigated the in vivo effect of NLE against lung cancer as well as the underlying mechanisms.We administered NLE(10 mg·kg^−1·d^−1,ip)to CB-17/SCID mice bearing human lung cancer cell line A549 xenograft for 3 weeks.We found that NLE administration significantly suppressed the tumor growth without obvious adverse effects.Thereafter,RNA sequencing(RNA-seq)analysis was performed to study the mechanisms of NLE.The effects of NLE on A549 cells have been illustrated by GO and pathway enrichment analyses.CMap dataset analysis supported NLE to be a potential protein synthesis inhibitor.The inhibitory effect of NLE on synthesis of total de novo protein was confirmed in Click-iT assay.Using the pcDNA3-RLUC-POLIRES-FLUC luciferase assay we further demonstrated that NLE inhibited both cap-dependent and cap-independent translation.Finally,molecular docking revealed the low-energy binding conformations of NLE and its potential target RIOK2.In conclusion,NLE is a protein synthesis inhibitor with anticancer activity.Le-le Zhang Jing Guo Xiao-ming Jiang Xiu-ping Chen Yi-tao Wang Ao Li Li-gen Lin Hua Li Jin-jian Lu 2020Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2020,41,5:2
14The impact of UV treatment on microbial control and DBPs formation in full-scale drinking water systems in northern China显示文摘To manage potential microbial risks and meet increasingly strict drinking water health standards,UV treatment has attracted increasing attention for use in drinking water systems in China.However,the effects of UV treatment on microbial control and disinfection byproducts(DBPs)formation in real municipal drinking water systems are poorly understood.Here,we collected water samples from three real drinking water systems in Beijing and Tianjin to investigate the impacts of UV treatment on microbial control and DBP formation.We employed heterotrophic plate count(HPC),flow cytometry(FCM),quantitative PCR analysis,and high-throughput sequencing to measure microorganisms in the samples.Different trends were observed between HPC and total cell count(measured by FCM),indicating that a single indicator could not reflect the real degree of biological re-growth in drinking water distribution systems(DWDSs).A significant increase in the 16S rRNA gene concentration was observed when the UV system was stopped.Besides,the bacterial community composition was similar at the phylum level but differed markedly at the genera level among the three DWDSs.Some chlorine-resistant bacteria,including potential pathogens(e.g.,Acinetobacter)showed a high relative abundance when the UV system was turned off.It can be concluded that UV treatment can mitigate microbial re-growth to some extent.Finally,UV treatment had a limited influence on the formation of DBPs,including trihalomethanes,haloacetic acids,and nitrogenated DBPs.The findings of this study may help to understand the performance of UV treatment in real drinking water systems.Xiuwei Ao Zhongyun Chen Simiao Li Chen Li Zedong Lu Wenjun Sun 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,1:2
15Experimental Study on Anti-adjuvant Arthritis in Rats of Kadsura coccinea显示文摘[Objectives] To investigate the therapeutic effect of Kadsura coccinea on adjuvant arthritis( AA) rats and its mechanism from cytokine levels. [Methods] The complete Freund's adjuvant( CFA)-induced AA model of rats was used. The therapeutic effect of K. coccinea on AA rats was evaluated by the articular swelling,arthritis score,immune organ index and hematoxylin-eosin( HE) staining. The content of inflammatory factors TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-1β in the serum of AA rats was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay( ELISA) respectively. [Results]Compared with the model group,the total extract of K. coccinea( KCTE) could significantly inhibit the primary and secondary articular swelling of AA rats,lower the arthritis score and immune organ index,and improve the pathological state of ankles of AA rats. In the groups with a high and middle dosage of KCTE( KCTE-H and KCTE-M),KCTE could significantly reduce the content of TNF-α and IL-6 in the serum of rats,exhibiting a certain dose-effect relationship. 16Improvement of cycle behavior of Si/Sn anode composite supported by stable Si–O–C skeleton显示文摘A Si/Sn/SiOC/graphite(SSSG) composite with high efficiency and long-term cycling stability was synthesized by a cost-effective and scalable method, including the processes of mechanical milling and pyrolysis. The composite was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry(EDX). The electrochemical properties were investigated until the 25th cycle. As a result, the SSSG composite anode exhibits excellent long-term cycling stability and capacity. Such SSSG composite anode shows excellent cycling stability with a specific capacity of 568.2 mAh·g^(-1) and ~80% capacity retention over 25 cycles at 0.3C rate. The reasons for good electrochemical characteristics are considered that the SiOC net with favorable chemical stability acts as a skeleton to support and segregate Si/Sn nanostructures, and the graphitic mixing in the composite is used as conductive material to enhance the electrical conductivity in this composite. 17Effect of cooling rate on solidification structure and linear contraction of a duplex stainless steel显示文摘Cooling rate is a key factor that can drastically affect the phase transformation and thermal stress of duplex stainless steels. Therefore, in this research, different sand moulds were used to explore the influence of cooling rate on the solidification of the 2304 duplex stainless steel (DSS). The macro and micro structures of the 2304 DSS were investigated. Small equiaxed grains are obtained in chromite sand mould sample with a lower pouring temperature and a higher cooling rate, whereas coarse columnar and equiaxed grains are found in silica sand and refractory powder mould samples. The size of austenite phase is significantly increased with decreasing cooling rate, while the ferrite phase content ranging from 51.6% to 53.9% does not change obviously. 18Antiinflammatory activity of the methanolic extract of the seeds of Carica papaya in experimental animals显示文摘Objective:To scientifically verify the claims of our traditional healers on the anti-inflammatory activity of Carica papaya(C.papaya) and possibly deduce its activities.Methods:0.1 mL of fresh egg albumin was injected into the right hind-paw of adult white Wistar rats to induce inflammation an hour post intraperitoneal(IP) administration of 50-200 mg/kg doses of the extract to 3 groups of 5 rats per group.The 4th group of 5 rats was used as negative control and received 2 mL/kg(IP) of physiological saline,while the 5th group of 5 rats was used as positive-comparative control and received(IP) 150 mg/kg of aspirin.Increases in diameter of the paw were measured with the aid of Veneer Calipers before extract administration and at interval of 30 minutes post administration for further 2 hours.Percentage inhibition of oedema was calculated for each dose group and results were subjected to statistical analysis using student /-test and analysis of variance(ANOVA).Results:All doses of extract showed a dose and time dependent inhibition effects of oedema(P<0.05).Conclusions:This work is at present though limited to animals,the anti-inflammatory activity of the seeds of C.papaya is perhaps proven.Amazu LU Azikiwe CCA Njoku CJ Osuala FN Nwosu PJC Ajugwo AO Enye JC 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,11:2
19Progress in the beam commissioning of separated function RFQ accelerator显示文摘Separated Function RFQ (SFRFQ) was proposed as a post accelerator of RFQ to accelerate heavy ions at low frequency. It introduces gap accelerating in the quadrupole electrodes, and therefore it has higher accelerating efficiency than the conventional RFQ accelerator. The first SFRFQ prototype cavity has been specially designed and constructed as a post accelerator to accelerate O+ beam from 1.03 MeV to 1.64 MeV. Based on accomplishment of low power measurement and high power test, the beam commissioning was carried out to verify its feasibility. 20Promoter methylation-regulated miR-148a-3p inhibits lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD)progression by targeting MAP3K9显示文摘Lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD)characterized by high metastasis and mortality is the leading subtype of non-small cell lung cancer.Evidence shows that some microRNAs(miRNAs)may act as oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes,leading to malignant tumor occurrence and progression.To better understand the molecular mechanism associated with miRNA methylation in LUAD progression and clinical outcomes,we investigated the correlation between miR-148a-3p methylation and the clinical features of LUAD.In the LUAD cell lines and tumor tissues from patients,miR-148a-3p was found to be significantly downregulated,while the methylation of miR-148a-3p promoter was notably increased.Importantly,miR-148a-3p hypermethylation was closely associated with lymph node metastasis.We demonstrated that mitogen-activated protein(MAP)kinase kinase kinase 9(MAP3K9)was the target of miR-148a-3p and that MAP3K9 levels were significantly increased in both LUAD cell lines and clinical tumor tissues.In A549 and NCI-H1299 cells,overexpression of miR-148a-3p or silencing MAP3K9 significantly inhibited cell growth,migration,invasion and cytoskeleton reorganization accompanied by suppressing the epithelial-mesenchymal transition.In a nude mouse xenograft assay we found that tumor growth was effectively inhibited by miR-148a-3p overexpression.Taken together,the promoter methylation-associated decrease in miR-148a-3p could lead to lung cancer metastasis by targeting MAP3K9.This study suggests that miR-148a-3p and MAP3K9 may act as novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of LUAD and have potential clinical applications.Lu Liang Wen-yan Xu Ao Shen Hui-yu Cen Zhi-jun Chen Lin Tan Ling-min Zhang Yu Zhang Ji-jun Fu Ai-ping Qin Xue-ping Lei Song-pei Li Yu-yan Qin Jiong-hua Huang Xi-yong Yu 2022Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2022,43,11:1
