Imaging in pulmonary hydatid cysts显示文摘Hydatid disease is a zoonosis that can involve almost any organ in the human body. After the liver, the lungs are the most common site for hydatid disease in adults. Imaging plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis of the disease, as clinical features are often nonspecific. Classical radiological signs of pulmonary hydatid cysts have been described in the literature, aiding in the diagnosis of the disease. However, complicated hydatid cysts can prove to be a diagnostic challenge at times due to their atypical imaging features. Radiography is the initial imaging modality. Computed tomography can provide a specific diagnosis in complicated cases. Ultrasound is particularly useful in peripheral lung lesions. The role of magnetic resonance imaging largely remains unexplored.Mandeep K Garg Madhurima Sharma Ajay Gulati Ujjwal Gorsi Ashutosh N Aggarwal Ritesh Agarwal Niranjan Khandelwal 2016World Journal of Radiology2016,8,6:4
Leukemic stromal hematopoietic microenvironment negatively regulates the normal hematopoiesis in mouse model of leukemia显示文摘Background and Objective: Leukemic microenvironment has a major role in the progression of leukemia. Leukemic cells can induce reversible changes in microenvironmental components, especially the stromal function which results in improved growth conditions for maintaining the malignant leukemic cells. This study aimed to investigate the survival advantage of leukemic cells over normal hematopoietic cells in stromal microenvironment in long term. Methods: The mice were injected intraperitoneally with N-N’ ethylnitrosourea (ENU) to induce leukemia; the mice received injection of normal saline were used as control. At 180 days after ENU induction, the mice were killed and the bone marrows were cultured for 19 days. Colony-forming assays were used to analyze the formation of various cell colonies. The expression of Sca-1, CD146, VEGFR2, CD95, pStat3, pStat5, and Bcl-xL in marrow cells were detected by flow cytometry. Results: Long-term leukemic bone marrow culture showed abnormal elongated stromal fibroblasts with almost absence of normal hematopoietic cells. Adherent cell colonies were increased, but CFU-F and other hematopoietic cell colonies were significantly decreased in leukemia group (P< 0.001). Primitive progenitor-specific Sca-1 receptor expression was decreased with subsequent increased expression of CD146 and VEGFR-2 in leukemic bone marrow cells. Decreased Fas antigen expression with increased intracellular pStat3, pStat5 and Bcl-xL proteins were observed in leukemic bone marrow cells. Conclusions: Stromal microenvironment shows altered morphology and decreased maturation in leukemia. Effective progenitor cells are decreased in leukemia with increased leukemia-specific cell population. Leukemic microenvironment plays a role in promoting and maintaining the leukemic cell proliferation and survivability in long term.Pratima Basak Sumanta Chatterjee Prosun Das Madhurima Das Jacintha Archana Pereira Ranjan Kumar Dutta Malay Chaklader Samaresh Chaudhuri Sujata Law 2010Chinese Journal of Cancer2010,29,12:3

Clinical significance of prostate 18F-labelled fluorodeoxyglucose uptake on positron emission tomography/computed tomography:A five-year review显示文摘AIM To determine the significance and need for investigation of incidental prostatic uptake in men undergoing ^(18)F-labelled fluorodeoxyglucose(^(18)F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography(PET/CT) for other indications.METHODS Hospital databases were searched over a 5-year period for patients undergoing both PET/CT and prostate magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). For the initial analysis, the prostate was divided into six sectors and suspicious or malignant sectors were identified using MRI and histopathology reports respectively. Maximum and mean ^(18)F-FDG standardised uptake values were measured in each sector by an investigator blinded to the MRI and histopathology findings. Two agematched controls were selected per case. Results were analysed using a paired t-test and one-way ANOVA. For the second analysis, PET/CT reports were searched for prostatic uptake reported incidentally and these patients were followed up. RESULTS Over a 5-year period, 15 patients underwent both PET/CT and MRI and had biopsy-proven prostate cancer.Malignant prostatic sectors had a trend to higher ^(18)F-FDG uptake than benign sectors, however this was neither clinically nor statistically significant(3.13 ±0.58 vs 2.86 ± 0.68, P > 0.05). ^(18)F-FDG uptake showed no correlation with the presence or histopathological grade of tumour. ^(18)F-FDG uptake in cases with prostate cancer was comparable to that from age-matched controls. Forty-six(1.6%) of 2846 PET/CTs over a 5-year period reported incidental prostatic uptake. Of these, 18(0.6%) were investigated by PSA, 9(0.3%)were referred to urology, with 3(0.1%) undergoing MRI and/or biopsy. No cases of prostate cancer were diagnosed in patients with incidental ^(18)F-FDG uptake in our institute over a 5-year period.CONCLUSION ^(18)F-FDG uptake overlaps significantly between malignant and benign prostatic conditions. Subsequent patient management was not affected by the reporting of incidental focal prostatic uptake in this cohort.Madhurima R Chetan Tristan Barrett Ferdia A Gallagher 2017World Journal of Radiology2017,9,9:1

Contactins in the central nervous system: role in health and disease显示文摘Contactins are a group of cell adhesion molecules that are mainly expressed in the brain and play pivotal roles in the organization of axonal domains, axonal guidance, neuritogenesis, neuronal development, synapse formation and plasticity, axo-glia interactions and neural regeneration. Contactins comprise a family of six members. Their absence leads to malformed axons and impaired nerve conduction. Contactin mediated protein complex formation is critical for the organization of the axon in early central nervous system development. Mutations and differential expression of contactins have been identified in neuro-developmental or neurological disorders. Taken together, contactins are extensively studied in the context of nervous system development. This review summarizes the physiological roles of all six members of the Contactin family in neurodevelopment as well as their involvement in neurological/neurodevelopmental disorders.Madhurima Chatterjee Detlev Schild Charlotte E.Teunissen 2019Neural Regeneration Research2019,14,2:1

Can glucose preservatives be avoided in blood samples?显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the effect of cooling of whole blood samples without an anticoagulant and glucose preservative on glucose and other commonly measured clinical analytes by serial measurements over a three hour period. Methods: Thirty healthy adult volunteers about 20-50 years old, from Kasturba Medical College,Manipal (2008) were the participants. After obtaining informed consent from each participant, blood was collected (2 mL each) in three vacutainers-one without the use of an anticoagulant and glucose preservative, one with sodium fluoride-potassium oxalate and the other with disodium ethylene diamine tetraacetic (EDTA). Automatic analyzer Hitachi was used to measure glucose and other common clinical laboratory analytes, every hour for three hours. Results: The refrigerated samples without an anticoagulant and preservative, showed slightly lower values of glucose as compared to fluorinated samples but difference between these groups was not statistically significant (P value> 0.05).Also cooling had no effect on other analytes except potassium. Conclusion: Fluoride preservative as a regular practice for glucose samples can be avoided if the samples can be processed quickly as fluoriated samples also show a marginal fall in glucose values.Prabin Gyawali Madhurima Mukherjee Rajesh Kumar Thakur Krishnananda Prabhu Anjali Rao 2009海南医学院学报2009,15,12:0
