| 1 | Fabrication of patterned graphitized carbon wires using low voltage near-field electrospinning, pyrolysis, electrodeposition, and chemical vapor deposition显示文摘We herein report a high-resolution nanopatterning method using low voltage electromechanical spinning with a rotating collector to obtain aligned graphitized micro and nanowires for carbon nanomanufacturing.A small wire diameter and a small inter-wire spacing were obtained by controlling the electric field, the spinneret-to-collector distance, the pyrolysis parameters, the linear speed of the spinneret, the rotational speed of the collector.Using a simple scaling analysis,we show how the straightness and the diameter of the wires can be controlled by the electric field and the distance of the spinneret to the collector.A small inter-wire spacing,as predicted by a simple model, was achieved by simultaneously controlling the linear speed of the spinneret and the rotational speed of the collector.Rapid drying of the polymer nanowires enabled the facile fabrication of suspended wires over various structures.Patterned polyacrylonitrile wires were carbonized using standard stabilization and pyrolysis to obtain carbon nanowires.Suspended carbon nanowires with a diameter of<50 nm were obtained. We also established a method for making patterned, highly graphitized structures by using the aforementioned carbon wire structures as a template for chemical vapor deposition of graphite. This patterning technique offers high throughput for nano writing, which outperforms other existing nanopatterning techniques, making it a potential candidate for large-scale carbon nanomanufacturing. | Derosh George Adrian Garcia Quang Pham Mario Ramos Perez Jufeng Deng Michelle Trang Nguyen Tuo Zhou Sergio OMartinez-Chapa Yoonjin Won Chong Liu Roger CLo Regina Ragan Marc Madou | 2020 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1: | 1 |
| 2 | Fabrication of crystalline submicro-to-nano carbon wire for achieving high current density and ultrastable current显示文摘Crystalline carbon nanowire arrays were fabricated taking advantage of near-field electrospinning and stress decyanation.A novel fabrication method for carbon nanowires with radii ranging from~2.15μm down to~25 nm was developed based on implementing nitrogen pretreatment on the silica surface and then aligning polymer nanofibers during near-field electrospinning at an ultralow voltage.Stress decyanation was implemented by subsequently pyrolyzing a polymer nanofiber array on the silica surface at 1000°C for 1 h in an N_(2)atmosphere,thus obtaining a crystalline carbon nanowire array with a nanostructured surface.Various crystalline nanostructures were fabricated on the nanowire surface, and their electrochemical performance was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry(CV)and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).Crystalline carbon wires with diameters ranging from micrometers to submicrometers displayed carbon nanoelectrode-like behavior with their CV curve having a sigmoidal shape.A highly crystalline carbon nanowire array showed distinct behavior, having a monotonically increasing straight line as its CV curve and a semicircular EIS spectrum;these results demonstrated its ultrastable current,as determined by electron transfer.Furthermore,nanocrystalline-structured carbon wires with diameters of~305 nm displayed at least a fourfold higher peak current density during CV(4000 mA/m2)than highly crystalline carbon nanowires with diameters of~100 nm and porous microwires with diameters of~4.3μm. | Jufeng Deng Chong Liu Dian song Marc Madou | 2022 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2022,8,1: | 1 |
| 3 | Fabrication of a three-dimensional micro/nanocarbon structure with sub-10 nm carbon fiber arrays based on the nanoforming and pyrolysis of polyacrylonitrile-based jet fibers显示文摘To produce a three-dimensional micro/nanocarbon structure,a manufacturing design technique for sub-10 nm carbon fiber arrays on three-dimensional carbon micropillars has been developed;the method involves initiating electrostatic jetting, forming submicron-to-nanoscale PAN-based fibers, and maximizing the shrinkage from polyacrylonitrile(PAN)-based fibers to carbon fibers.Nanoforming and nanodepositing methods for polyacrylonitrilebased jet fibers as precursors of carbon fibers are proposed for the processing design of electrostatic jet initiation and for the forming design of submicron-to-nanoscale PAN-based fibers by establishing and analyzing mathematical models that include the diameter and tensile stress values of jet fibers and the electric field intensity values on the surfaces of carbon micropillars. In accordance with these methods,an array of jet fibers with diameters of~80 nm is experimentally formed based on the thinning of the electrospinning fluid on top of a dispensing needle, the poking of drum into an electrospinning droplet, and the controlling of the needle–drum distance. When converting thin PANbased jet fibers to carbon fibers,a pyrolysis method consisting of the suspension of jet nanofibers between carbon micropillars, the bond between the fibers and the surface of the carbon micropillar, and the control of micropillar spacing, stabilization temperature, and carbonation rate is presented to maximize the shrinkage from PAN-based fibers to carbon fibers and to form sub-10 nm carbon fiber arrays between three-dimensional carbon micropillars. The manufacturing design of a three-dimensional micro/nanocarbon structure can produce thin PAN-based jet nanofibers and nanofiber arrays aligned on micropillar surfaces, obtain shrinkage levels reaching 96%and incorporate sub-10 nm carbon fibers into three-dimensional carbon micropillars;these actions provide new research opportunities for correlated three-dimensional micro/nanocarbon structures that have not previously been technically possible. | Jufeng Deng Chong Liu Dian Song Marc Madou | 2023 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2023,9,5: | 0 |
| 4 | Low-protein diet accelerates wound healing in mice post-acute injury显示文摘Background:Wound healing processes are influenced by macronutrient intake(protein, carbohydrate and fat). The most favourable diet for cutaneous wound healing is not known, although highprotein diets are currently favoured clinically. This experimental study investigates the optimal macronutrient balance for cutaneous wound healing using a mouse model and the Geometric Framework,a nutrient modelling method, capable of analyzing the individual and interactive effects of a wide spectrum of macronutrient intake. Methods:Two adjacent and identical full-thickness skin excisions(1 cm^(2))were surgically created on the dorsal area of male C57BL/6 mice.Mice were then allocated to one of 12 high-energy diets that varied in protein, carbohydrate and fat content. In select diets, wound healing processes, cytokine expression, energy expenditure, body composition, muscle and fat reserves were assessed. Results:Using the Geometric Framework,we show that a low-protein intake, coupled with a balanced intake of carbohydrate and fat is optimal for wound healing.Mice fed a low-protein diet progressed quickly through wound healing stages with favourable wound inflammatory cytokine expression and significantly accelerated collagen production. These local processes were associated with an increased early systemic inflammatory response and a higher overall energy expenditure, related to metabolic changes occurring in key macronutrient reserves in lean body mass and fat depots. Conclusions:The results suggest that a low-protein diet may have a greater potential to accelerate wound healing than the current clinically used high-protein diets. | Jonathan J.Hew Roxanne J.Parungao Craig P.Mooney Julian K.Smyth Sarah Kim Kevin H.-Y.Tsai Huaikai Shi Cassandra Chong Renee C.F.Chan Beba Attia Caroline Nicholls Zhe Li Samantha M.Solon-Biet David G.Le Couteur Stephen J.Simpson Marc G.Jeschke Peter K.Maitz Yiwei Wang | 2021 | Burns & Trauma2021,9,1: | 0 |
