| 1 | Intracameral lidocaine as supplement to classic topical anesthesia for relieving ocular pain in cataract surgery显示文摘AIM: To evaluate safety, efficacy, and patient adherence of intracameral lidocaine as supplement of classic topical anesthetic drops in cataract surgery.METHODS: A prospective and controlled trial including a large cohort of 1650 individuals suffering with bilateral cataract not complicated, in program by phacoemulsification surgery, were randomly assigned to 2 different groups for the type of anesthesia received, 0.4% oxybuprocaine hydrochloride(INN) drops, and INN drops associated to intracameral 1% lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate. At the end of surgery, tables were assigned to each patient indicating the degree of pain(0-3) felt during the operation.RESULTS: Thirty-two percent of patients in group 1 declared to have not felt any pain against the 77% of patients in group 2. Fifty-nine percent of patients in group 1 complained about only a slight discomfort against 20% of group 2 patients. Only a small percentage of patients in group 1(5%) admitted severe pain, while no patient in group 2 admitted severe pain. Four patients of group 2 reported an episode of transient amaurosis, lasting several hours after surgery.CONCLUSION: Intracameral administration of lidocaine is a simple and secure method able to increase the analgesia during the cataract surgery, eliminating the discomfort and increasing also the cooperation of the patients during the steps of manipulation. | Marcella Nebbioso Maria Luisa Livani Valentina Santamaria Aloisa Librando Massimiliano Sepe | 2018 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2018,11,12: | 3 |

| 9 | Lamb-dip saturated-absorption cavity ring-down rovibrational molecular spectroscopy in the near-infrared显示文摘The high-detection-sensitivity saturated-absorption cavity ring-down(SCAR)technique is extended to Lambdip spectroscopy of rovibrational molecular transitions in the near-infrared region.Frequency-comb-referenced sub-Doppler saturation measurements, performed on the acetylene(ν_(1)+ν_(3)+ν_(4)←ν_(4))R(14)e line at6562 cm^(-1),are analyzed by a SCAR global line profile fitting routine, based on a specially developed theoretical model.Compared to a conventional cavity ring-down evaluation, our approach yields dip profiles with a linewidth freed from saturation broadening effects, reduced by 40%,and a signal-to-noise ratio increased by 90%.Ultimately,an overall(statistical and systematic)fractional uncertainty as low as 7×10^(-12)is achieved for the absolute line-center frequency. At the same time, our method is also able to accurately infer the linear(nonsaturated)behavior of the gas absorption, providing Lamb-dip-based line strength measurements with a relative uncertainty of 0.5%. | ROBERTO AIELLO VALENTINA DI SARNO MARIA GIULIA DELLI SANTI MAURIZIO DE ROSA IOLANDA RICCIARDI GIOVANNI GIUSFREDI PAOLO DE NATALE LUIGI SANTAMARIA PASQUALE MADDALONI | 2022 | Photonics Research2022,10,8: | 0 |
| 10 | Harnessing the value of TCTP in breast cancer treatment resistance: an opportunity for personalized therapy显示文摘Early identification of breast cancer (BC) patients at a high risk of progression may aid in therapeutic and prognostic aims. This is especially true for metastatic disease, which is responsible for most cancer-related deaths. Growing evidence indicates that the translationally controlled tumor protein (TCTP) may be a clinically relevant marker for identifying poorly differentiated aggressive BC tumors. TCTP is an intriguing protein with pleiotropic functions, which is involved in multiple signaling pathways. TCTP may also be involved in stress response, cell growth and proliferation-related processes, underlying its potential role in the initiation of metastatic growth. Thus, TCTP marks specific cancer cell sub-populations with pronounced stress adaptation, stem-like and immune-evasive properties. Therefore, we have shown that in vivo phospho-TCTP levels correlate with the response of BC cells to anti-HER2 agents. In this review, we discuss the clinical relevance of TCTP for personalized therapy, specific TCTP-targeting strategies, and currently available therapeutic agents. We propose TCTP as an actionable clinically relevant target that could potentially improve patient outcomes. | Gianluca Santamaria Mario Cioce Antonia Rizzuto Vito Michele Fazio Giuseppe Viglietto Maria Lucibello | 2023 | Cancer Drug Resistance2023,6,3: | 0 |
| 11 | Effect of the addition of different sodium alginates on viscoelastic, structural features and hydrolysis kinetics of corn starch gels显示文摘Corn starch gels(1:4 w:w)were made with the addition(up to 2%w/w starch basis)of sodium alginates of different average molecular sizes and nature.Rheology of the starchy gels were characterized to evaluate their viscoelasticity.Gels were subjected to in vitro digestion to estimate the effect of alginates addition on glycemic response.Tested alginates significantly decreased the value of the elastic modulus of gels. The coordination number obtained from complex modulus indicated that in general, less compact structures were obtained in the presence of alginates. These results were confirmed by scanning electron micrographs, where significant differences in the structure of alginate-corn starch gels were observed, but molecular size of alginates was not critical.Hydrolysis rate decreased with the presence of alginates in corn starch gels by interactions of alginates with leached amylose. At high alginate content, slower hydrolysis rates were determined when the most hygroscopic alginates were added. | Leticia Montes Maria Santamaria Raquel Garzon Cristina M.Rosell Ramón Moreira | 2022 | Food Bioscience2022,47,3: | 0 |
