1NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF THE MECHANICS OF SOIL REINFORCEMENT显示文摘Roots affect the soil stress and strain and contribute to soil reinforcement. An analysis of stress and strain in the root-soil composite is presented which combines roots, soils, and an interface element by using the Duncan-Chang E- model and a nonlinear-interface-element model. In this research, a finite element numerical analysis method was applied to simulate the stress field resulting in a composite of Pinus tabulaeformis roots and soils. Results show that roots can transmit the stress from surface soils to deep soils, and can reduce soil stress within the surface soil layer; results also show that the effect of soil reinforcement by roots is limited to surface soils. 2Optical PPM-CDMA Communication System with Optical Hard Limiter显示文摘An optical PPM CDMA communication system with an optical hard limiter in front of the correlator of a receiver is proposed in order to reduce multi user interference. The performance of the system is evaluated when the effects of both multi user interference and photo detector shot noise are considered. An upper bound on the bit error rate is derived. The comparison of the performance of the above receiver with that of the optical PPM CDMA system without an optical hard limiter is made. 5STABILITY ANALYSIS OF COFFERDAM SLUMP AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE CLOSURE OPERATION OF THREE GORGES PROJECT显示文摘A theoretical model is built to calculate the slump of dike head during process of cofferdam construction in river closure operation. Considering flow scours, the depth of scouring zone is estimated and its effect on slump scale can be determined. Using the theoretical model to analyze stability of cofferdam of The Three Gorge Project, slump length and volume of dike head in the river closure operation are predicted. 8Assessing the effect of well completion types on productivity in a class 1G gas hydrate reservoir under pseudo steady state显示文摘This work focuses on the assessment of the effect of well completion types on gas productivity in subsea gas hydrate reservoirs of class 1G type where the gas hydrates have decomposed into gas and water.Three types of vertical well completions are considered:frac-packed well with vertical hydraulic fracture;frac-packed well with horizontal hydraulic fracture,and a cased-hole gravel-packed well.Sensitivity analysis was conducted with analytical well inflow models to determine factors that affect the gas well productivity.The results of the analyses indicated that proppant mass pumped during fracture treatment slightly improves well productivity for frac-packed natural gas hydrate wells.Well productivity increases nonlinearly with fracture productivity up to a threshold value of 50,000 md for fracpacked well with horizontal fracture,above which further increase in fracture conductivity would create no benefit.With a proppant mass of 50,000 Ibm and a corresponding proppant volume of 504 ft3,commercial gas production rates of 14.9 MMscf/d,5.621 MMscf/d,and 11.35 MMscf/d are possible for frac-packed well with vertical fracture,frac-packed well with horizontal fracture,and cased-hole gravelpacked well,respectively.Because hydraulic fracture orientation depends on the in-situ formation stress,whether a well should be hydraulic-fractured or not depends on in-situ formation stress.Ellis Ekhator Master of Science in Engineering Boyun Guo 2021Petroleum2021,7,4:0

10Experimental investigation of damage behavior of RC frame members including non-seismically designed columns显示文摘Reinforced concrete(RC) frame structures are one of the mostly common used structural systems,and their seismic performance is largely determined by the performance of columns and beams.This paper describes horizontal cyclic loading tests of ten column and three beam specimens,some of which were designed according to the current seismic design code and others were designed according to the early non-seismic Chinese design code,aiming at reporting the behavior of the damaged or collapsed RC frame strctures observed during the Wenchuan earthquake.The effects of axial load ratio,shear span ratio,and transverse and longitudinal reinforcement ratio on hysteresis behavior,ductility and damage progress were incorporated in the experimental study.Test results indicate that the non-seismically designed columns show premature shear failure,and yield larger maximum residual crack widths and more concrete spalling than the seismically designed columns.In addition,longitudinal steel reinforcement rebars were severely buckled.The axial load ratio and shear span ratio proved to be the most important factors affecting the ductility,crack opening width and closing ability,while the longitudinal reinforcement ratio had only a minor effect on column ductility,but exhibited more influence on beam ductility.Finally,the transverse reinforcement ratio did not influence the maximum residual crack width and closing ability of the seismically designed columns.Chen Linzhi,Lu Xilin,Jiang Huanjun and Zheng Jianbo State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering,Tongji University,Shanghai 200092,China PhD Candidate Professor Associate Professor Master of Engineering 2009Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2009,8,2:0
