3A theoretical model of collision between soft-spheres with Hertz elastic loading and nonlinear plastic unloading显示文摘This paper presents a theoretical model on the normal(head-on) collision between soft-spheres on the basis of elastic loading of the Hertz contact for compression process and a nonlinear plastic unloading for restitution one,in which the parameters all are determined in terms of the material and geometric ones of the spheres,and the behaviors of perfect elastic,inelastic,and perfect plastic collisions appeared in the classical mechanics are fully described once a value of coefficient of restitution is specified in the region of 0 ≤ε≤ 1.After an empirical formula of the coefficient of restitution dependent on the impact velocity is suggested to fit the existing experimental measurements by means of the least square method,the predictions of the dependency and the collision duration are in well quantitative agreement with their experimental measurements.It is found that the measurable quantities are dependent on both the impact velocity and the parameters of spheres.Following this model,finally,an approach to determine the spring coefficient in the linear viscoelastic model of the collision is also displayed.These results obtained here will be significantly beneficial for the applications where a collision model is requested in the simulations of relevant grain flows and impact dynamics etc..Youhe Zhou 1,2,a) 1) Key Laboratory of Mechanics on Disaster and Environment in Western China,the Ministry of Education of China 2)Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science,College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics,Lanzhou University,Lanzhou 730000,China 2011Theoretical & Applied Mechanics Letters2011,1,4:4

8Discrete large eddy simulation显示文摘Despite the intense effort expended towards obtaining a model for describing the turbulent flows of fluid, there is no model at hand that can do an adequate job. This leads us to look for a non-traditional approach to turbulence modeling. In this work we conjoin the notion of large eddy simulation with those of fuzzy sets and neural networks to describe a class of turbulent flows. 10An implicit relation between temperature and reaction rate in the SLFM显示文摘The Arrhenius law implies that reaction rate is a continuous function of temperature. However,the steady laminar flamelet model(SLFM) does not explicitly give this functional relationship. 20Study of the Contact Force in Free-form Surfaces Compliant EDM Polishing by Robot显示文摘With an elastic negative pole being driven by ultra so nic vibration and being moved along the surface of work-piece compliantly by ro bot, a new kind of effective EDM, the compliant EDM, cuts the electrically condu ctive materials away and polishes work-piece of free-form surface. The study o f the contact force between the end of polishing tool and the surface of work-p iece is the key for the compliant EDM to study its cutting mechanism and to make better use of it. This paper makes a model for the contact force and verifies i t by experiments and simulation based on the theory of elastic body kinetics and dynamic stress concentration. The research work shows that this contact force i s caused by both the electrical impulsion of EDM and the mechanical force of ult rasonic vibration, the discharge frequency of compliant EDM has a much more clos er connection with the vibration frequency of polishing tool rather than the fre quency of ultrasonic vibration.ZHAN Jian-ming 1, ZHAO Ji 2, XU Shu-xin 1, ZHU Pei-xi ng 1 (1.
