4VISCOMETRIC INVESTIGATIONS OF POLYVINYLPYRROLIDONE IN MIXED SOLVENTS AND WITH VARYING TEMPERATURE显示文摘The viscosity behavior of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) has been determined at 25℃ in mixed solvents comprising water/dimethylformamide (DMF) and water /methanol (MeOH). Analysis of the data has considered the PVP as being both host and guest polymer in solution. The intrinsic viscosity of PVP in DMF is higher than in water and in MeOH, but also increases in a mixed solvent with high water content because of the effect of polymer-solvent interactions. It was also found that the intrinsic viscosity of PVP at finite concentration, [ηPVP]c decreases with an increase in the concentration of PVP in solution. The viscosity behavior of PVP in a mixed solvent is affected by the concentration-dependent intermolecular excluded volume effect, which can be quantitatively expressed by the parameter, bY, which reflects the shrinkage of PVP chain coils, resulting in a decrease of [ηPVP]c . The effect of temperature on the viscosity behavior of PVP in MeOH shows that the interaction parameter increases up to a maximum value, and then decreases after a certain temperature.Omar Melad Omar Abu-Tiem Rajai Baraka 2005Chinese Journal of Polymer Science2005,23,4:1

12VISCOMETRIC STUDY OF POLY(METHYL METHACRYLATE) AND POLYSTYRENE BLENDS IN DIFFERENT SOLVENTS显示文摘The intermolecular interaction between poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and polystyrene (PS) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and N,N'-dimethyl formamide (DMF) solvents was studied at 28℃ using a dilute solution viscometry method. Solvent is believed to play a key role in characterizing the viscosity behavior of the polymer solution. The intrinsic viscosity and viscosity interaction parameter were experimentally measured for the binary (solvent/polymer) and for the ternary systems in two solvents. The compatibility of the polymer mixture was discussed in terms of the sign of △bm. The results show that the compatibility of PMMA/PS blend in DMF is larger than that in THF.Omar Melad Rajai Baraka Jamil K.J.Salem Hani Hilles Awni El-Khazandar 2003Chinese Journal of Polymer Science2003,21,1:0

14What can glove impression evidence reveal about assailants? A pilot study显示文摘Impressions and marks are expected components of any crime scene. There is nothing more disappointing for fingerprint experts than finding glove marks at a crime scene. The forensic expert’s primary task in such cases is to compare the characteristic features of glove impressions with the characteristics of a suspect. The aim of the present study was to determine whether additional information could be obtained from glove prints.Specifically, whether they could be used to help to predict the sex and stature of a suspect was investigated,as was the potential for ascertaining additional information in cases where such prints were recovered from diverse objects with different diameters.Male and female participants wore latex gloves, and after ink was applied to the gloves they grasped objects of different diameters(2,4,6 and 8 cm).Impressions of gloved flat hands were also obtained.Phalangeal and finger lengths were measured digitally via software.Sex and stature were successfully estimated based on impressions derived from gloved flat hands and from prints on various grasped objects.A regression equation was developed for stature prediction, and a discriminant equation was developed for sex prediction.Melad G.Paulis 2022Forensic Sciences Research2022,7,1:0
