1Effectiveness and Controversy of Convalescent Plasma Therapy for Coronavirus Disease 2019 Patients显示文摘Since the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)began to spread,it remains pandemic worldwide. The European Medicines Agency’s human medicines committee and Food and Drug Administration have only granted a conditional marketing authorization for remdesivir to treat COVID-19.It is essential to apply other valuable treatments.Convalescent plasma(CP),donated by persons who have recovered from COVID-19,is the cellular component of blood that contains specific antibodies. Therefore,to determine the feasibility of CP for COVID-19,the effectiveness and controversy are discussed in depth here.It is suggested that CP plays a certain role in the treatment of COVID-19.As a treatment,it may have its own indications and contraindications, which need to be further discussed.Meanwhile,it is critical to establish a standard procedure for treatment from CP collection, preservation, transport,to transfusion, and conduct some large sample randomized controlled trials to confirm the transfusion dosage, appropriate time, frequency, and actively prevent adverse outcomes that may occur.Zhanjun Shu Peipei Wu Qianqian Qian Li Zhou Dandan Du Mengxuan Ding Tao Peng Ke Fang 2022Infectious Diseases & Immunity2022,2,1:0
2The human-derived novel gut commensal Luoshenia tenuis regulates body weight and food intake in mice显示文摘Many studies have revealed that gut microbes modulate host metabolism. In this study,we characterized the therapeutic effects of a novel gut commensal Luoshenia tenuis against host metabolic disorders.First,by in silico analysis,we demonstrated that the L.tenuis was prevalent in the gut microbiomes of healthy humans but were depleted specifically in obesity cohorts.Further in vitro cultivation revealed that L.tenuis produced short chain fatty acids that were verified to modulate host metabolism and some other volatile metabolites to benefit hosts by anti-inflammation and anti-tumor.Second,gavage of the L.tenuis significantly decreased the body weight gain and food intake of high-fat diet-feeding C57BL/6J mice, which was in parallel with the changed expression level of genes related to satiety and feeding behavior. We then performed the gavage trial using diet induced obese mice, and it revealed that the administration of L.tenuis alleviated significantly the abnormal glucose and lipid metabolisms and reduced the inflammatory response. In summary, this study revealed a previously-unknown human gut commensal microbe that benefited host metabolism, and set the stage for the development of novel next-generation probiotic applicable for treatment of obesity and related metabolic disorders.Yu Jiang Mengxuan Du Lisheng Xie Minzhi Jiang Yaokun Zhang Mingxia Bi Chang Liu Hongwei Liu Shuangjiang Liu 2024Food Science and Human Wellness2024,13,2:0
3The monkey microbial biobank brings previously uncultivated bioresources for nonhuman primate and human gut microbiomes显示文摘Impact statement Nonhuman primates(NHPs)such as monkeys are the closest living relatives to humans and are the best available models for causative studies of human health and diseases.Gut microbiomes are intensively involved in host health. In this study,by large-scale cultivation of microbes from fecal samples of monkeys,we obtained previously uncultured bacterial species and constructed a Macaca fascicularis Gut Microbial Biobank(MfGMB).The MfGMB consisted of 250 strains that represent 97 species of 63 genera,25 families, and 4 phyla. The information of the 250 strains and the genomes of 97 cultured species are publicly accessible. The MfGMB represented nearly 50% of core gut microbial compositions at the genus level and covered over 80% of the KO-based known gut microbiome functions of M.fascicularis.Data mining showed that the bacterial species in the MfGMB were prevalent not only in NHPs gut microbiomes but also in human gut microbiomes. This study will help the understanding and future investigations on how gut microbiomes interact with their mammalian hosts.Danhua Li Chang Liu Rexiding Abuduaini Mengxuan Du Yujing Wang Haizhen Zhu Honghe Chen Nan Zhou Yuhua Xin Linhuan Wu Juncai Ma Yuguang Zhou Yong Lu Chengying Jiang Qiang Sun Shuang-Jiang Liu 2022mLife2022,1,2:0
