| 1 | C^2G^2FSnake: automatic tongue image segmentation utilizing prior knowledge显示文摘Extraction of the tongue body from digital images is essential for automated tongue diagnoses in traditional Chinese medicine. This paper presents a fully automated active contour initial method that utilizes prior knowledge of the tongue shape and its location in tongue images. Then colorspace information is introduced to control curve evolution. Combining the geometrical Snake model with the parameterized GVFSnake model, a novel approach for automatic tongue segmentation: C2G2FSnake (color control-geometric & gradient flow Snake) is proposed. This method increases the curve velocity but decreases the complexity. C2G2FSnake greatly extends practical usage to tongue segmentation, at the same time increasing the precision. | 2 | miR395-regulated sulfate metabolism exploits pathogen sensitivity to sulfate to boost immunity in rice显示文摘MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in plant physiological activities. However, their roles and molecular mechanisms in boosting plant immunity, especially through the modulation of macronutrient metabolism in response to pathogens, are largely unknown. Here, we report that an evolutionarily conserved miRNA, miR395, promotes resistance to Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) and X. oryzae pv. oryzicola (Xoc), two destructive bacterial pathogens, by regulating sulfate accumulation and distribution in rice. Specifically, miR395 targets and suppresses the expression of the ATP sulfurylase gene OsAPS1, which functions in sulfate assimilation, and two sulfate transporter genes, OsSULTR2;1 and OsSULTR2;2, which function in sulfate translocation, to promote sulfate accumulation, resulting in broad-spectrum resistance to bacterial pathogens in miR395-overexpressing plants. Genetic analysis revealed that miR395-triggered resistance is involved in both pathogen-associated molecular pattern-triggered immunity and R gene-mediated resistance. Moreover, we found that accumulated sulfate but not S-metabolites inhibits proliferation of pathogenic bacteria, revealing a sulfate-mediated antibacterial defense mechanism that differs from sulfur-induced resistance. Furthermore, compared with other bacteria, Xoo and Xoc, which lack the sulfate transporter CysZ, are sensitive to high levels of extracellular sulfate. Accordingly, miR395-regulated sulfate accumulation impaired the virulence of Xoo and Xoc by decreasing extracellular polysaccharide production and biofilm formation. | 5 | Scientific literature addressing detection of monosialoganglioside A 10-year bibliometric analysis显示文摘OBJECTIVE: The study was undertaken to explore a bibliometric approach to quantitatively assess the research on detection of monosialoganglioside from 2002 to 2011. DATA RETRIEVAL: A bibliometric analysis based on the publications on Web of Science was performed using key words such as 'monosialoganglioside', 'colloidal gold', 'high performance liquid chromatography' and 'detection'. SELECTION CRITERIA: (1) Research articles on the detection of monosialoganglioside; (2) researches on human and animal fundamentals, clinical trials and case reports; (3) article types: article, review, proceedings paper, note, letter, editorial material, discussion, book chapter; (4) Publication year: 2002-2011. Exclusion criteria: (1) unrelated articles; (2) type of articles: correction; (3) articles from following databases: all databases related to social science and arts & humanities in Web of Science were excluded. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: (1) distribution of subject areas; (2) number of publications annually; (3) document type and language of publications; (4) distribution of institutions; (5) distribution of output in journals; (6) the number of countries in which the article is published; (7) top cited paper. RESULTS: Overall population stands at 1 880 research articles addressing detection of monosialoganglioside in Web of Science during the study period. Articles (1 599) were the most frequently used document type comprising 85.05%, followed by meeting abstracts, reviews and proceedings papers. The distribution of subject categories showed that monosialoganglioside research covered both clinical and basic science research. The USA, Japan, and Italy were the three most productive countries, and the publication numbers in the USA were highest with 559 papers. The University of Milan, Nagoya University, and Kinki University are the most productive institutions regarding detection of monosialoganglioside. In 559 articles published by Americans, Medical College of Georgia ranked the first with 30 articles, followed by University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (28 articles), Cornell University (24 articles) and Johns Hopkins University (24 articles). In 442 articles published by Japanese, Nagoya University ranked the first with 40 articles, followed by Kinki University (36 articles), and Dokkyo University (31 articles). Though the total number of publications by Japanese is smaller than Americans, the top three institutions published more publications than American institutions. There is a markedly increase in the number of publications on the subject detection of monosialoganglioside in 2004, which the peak in the past 10 years. The valley bottom of the subject appeared in 2005. In total, the research is increased with time prolonged. Journal of Neurochemistry, Journal of Biological Chemistry and Journal of Neuroimmunology were core subject journals in monosialoganglioside studies. | 11 | Efects of sulfuric,nitric,and mixed acid rain on the decomposition of fne root litter in Southern China显示文摘Background:China has been increasingly subject to signifcant acid rain,which has negative impacts on forest ecosystems.Recently,the concentrations of NO_(3)^(−)in acid rain have increased in conjunction with the rapid rise of nitrogen deposition,which makes it difcult to precisely quantify the impacts of acid rain on forest ecosystems.Methods:For this study,mesocosm experiments employed a random block design,comprised of ten treatments involving 120 discrete plots(0.6 m×2.0 m).The decomposition of fne roots and dynamics of nutrient loss were evaluated under the stress of three acid rain analogues(e.g.,sulfuric(SO_(4)^(2−)/NO_(3)^(−)5:1),nitric(1:5),and mixed(1:1)).Furthermore,the infuences of soil properties(e.g.,soil pH,soil total carbon,nitrogen,C/N ratio,available phosphorus,available potassium,and enzyme activity)on the decomposition of fne roots were analyzed.Results:The soil pH and decomposition rate of fne root litter decreased when exposed to simulated acid rain with lower pH levels and higher NO_(3)^(−)concentrations.The activities of soil enzymes were signifcantly reduced when subjected to acid rain with higher acidity.The activities of soil urease were more sensitive to the efects of the SO_(4)^(2−)/NO_(3)^(−)(S/N)ratio of acid rain than other soil enzyme activities over four decomposition time periods.Furthermore,the acid rain pH signifcantly infuenced the total carbon(TC)of fne roots during decomposition.However,the S/N ratio of acid rain had signifcant impacts on the total nitrogen(TN).In addition,the pH and S/N ratio of the acid rain had greater impacts on the metal elements(K,Ca,and Al)of fne roots than did TC,TN,and total phosphorus.Structural equation modeling results revealed that the acid rain pH had a stronger indirect impact(0.757)on the decomposition rate of fne roots(via altered soil pH and enzyme activities)than direct efects.However,the indirect efects of the acid rain S/N ratio(0.265)on the fne root decomposition rate through changes in soil urease activities and the content of litter elements were lower than the pH of acid rain.Conclusions:Our results suggested that the acid rain S/N ratio exacerbates the inhibitory efects of acid rain pH on the decomposition of fne root litter. | Xin Liu Miaojing Meng Yong Zhang Chong Li Shilin Ma Qinyu Li Qiong Ren Yinlong Zhang Jinchi Zhang | 2021 | Ecological Processes2021,10,1: | 0 |
| 12 | Highly active bifunctional catalyst: Constructing FeWO_(4)-WO_(3) heterostructure for water and hydrazine oxidation at large current density显示文摘Developing high performance anode catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrazine oxidation reaction (HzOR) at large current density is an efficient pathway to produce hydrogen. Herein, we synthesize a FeWO_(4)-WO_(3) heterostructure catalyst growing on nickel foam (FeWO_(4)-WO_(3)/NF) by a combination of hydrothermal and calcination method. It shows good catalytic activity with ultralow potentials for OER (ζ_(10) = 1.43 V, ζ_(1.000) = 1.56 V) and HzOR (ζ_(10) = −0.034 V, ζ_(1.000) = 0.164 V). Moreover, there is little performance degradation after being tested for _(10)0 h at 1,000 (OER) and _(10)0 (HzOR) mA·cm−2, indicating good stability. The superior performance could be attributed to the wolframite structure and heterostructure: The former provides a high electrical conductivity to ensure the electronic transfer capability, and the later induces interfacial electron redistribution to enhance the intrinsic activity and stability. | 13 | Scientific literature on monosialoganglioside in the Science Citation Index-Expanded A bibliometric analysis of articles from 1942 to 2011 by each decade显示文摘BACKGROUND: The monosialoganglioside (GM1) is a popular topic of research but the bibliometric analysis of GM1 over the decades in Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) remains poorly understood. OBJECTIVE: To identify the global research and to improve the understanding of research trends in the GM1 field from 1942 to 2011. DESIGN: A bibliometric study. DATA RETRIEVAL: We performed a bibliometric analysis based on the SCI-E published by the Institute of Scientific Information. INCLUSIVE CRITERIA: Articles closely related to GM1 were included. Exclusive criteria: (1) Articles related to gangliosidosis, disialo-ganglioside, trisialo-ganglioside or ganglioside GQIb. (2) Document types such as meeting abstracts, reviews, proceedings papers, notes, and letters. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: (1) Type of publication output; (2) number of author outputs; (3) distribution of output in subject categories; (4) publication distribution of countries; (5) distribution of output in journals, and (6) distribution of citations in each decade. RESULTS: During 1942 to 2011, there were 10 126 papers on GM1 that were added to the SCI. Articles (8 004) were the most frequently used document type comprising 79.0%, followed by meeting abstracts, reviews and proceedings papers. Research on GM1 could be found in the SCI from 1942, it was developed in the 1970s, greatly increased in the 1980s, and reached a peak in the 1990s, and it was slightly decreased in 2000. The distribution of subject categories showed that GM1 research covered both clinical and basic science research. The USA, Japan, and Germany were the three most productive countries, and the publication numbers in the USA were highest in all decades. The Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Neurochemistry and Biochemistry were core subject journals in GM1 studies in each decade.
