6Trace elements migrating from tailings to rock varnish laminated sediments in an old mining region from Nelson,Nevada,USA显示文摘The dispersion and influence of soluble and particulate trace elements(TEs)present in the materials from abandoned mines is an imminent problem on terrestrial and aquatic environments.The goal of this research is to provide a broader view of such transport,assessing particle size distribution and TE interactions(e.g.,scavenging)with mine tailings and locally derived sediments transported by water in arid region.Sand grains from wash sediment were collected from a dry ephemeral wash in Nelson,Nevada where the Techatticup Mine and Mill worked between 1850 and 1960.Samples were evaluated to determine the association and behavior of certain metals and metalloids including aluminum,arsenic,barium,cadmium,copper,chromium,iron,manganese,lead,selenium,vanadium,and zinc to rock varnish laminated sediments.Results show that some metals and metalloids were more concentrated on larger particles whereas others indicated the opposite tendency.For example,As was greatest on silt fractions and least on coarse fractions,while Se was detected only on silts.Cr,Cu,Fe,Mn,Pb,and Zn concentrations all increased with decreasing particle size(silt>sand>coarse),whereas Al,Ba,and V showed the opposite trend(siltDouglas B.Sims Amanda C.Hudson John E.Keller Michael Strange Andressa Cristhy Buch David Ferrari Giavanna M.Fernandez Juan Garcia-Hernandez Bailey D.Kesl Sean Torres 2022International Journal of Sediment Research2022,37,2:1

8Automatic method for the estimation of li-ion degradation test sample sizesrequired to understand cell-to-cell variability显示文摘The testing of battery cells is a long and expensive process, and hence understanding how large a test set needsto be is very useful. This work proposes an automated methodology to estimate the smallest sample size ofcells required to capture the cell-to-cell variability seen in a larger population. We define cell-to-cell variationbased on the slopes of a linear regression model applied to capacity fade curves. Our methodology determinesa sample size which estimates this variability within user specified requirements on precision and confidence.The sample size is found using the distributional properties of the slopes under a normality assumption, andan implementation of the approach is available on GitHub.For the five datasets in the study, we find that a sample size of 8–10 cells (at a prespecified precision andconfidence) captures the cell-to-cell variability of the larger datasets.
