1Metabolic aspects of adult patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is a major cause of chronic liver disease and it encompasses a spectrum from simple steatosis to steatohepatitis, fibrosis, or cirrhosis. The mechanisms involved in the occurrence of NAFLD and its progression are probably due to a metabolic profile expressed within the context of a genetic predisposition and is associated with a higher energy intake. The metabolic syndrome(MS) is a cluster of metabolic alterations associated with an increased risk for the development of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. NAFLD patients have more than one feature of the MS, and now they are considered the hepatic components of the MS. Several scientific advances in understanding the association between NAFLD and MS have identified insulin resistance(IR) as the key aspect in the pathophysiology of both diseases. In the multi parallel hits theory of NAFLD pathogenesis, IR was described to be central in the predisposition of hepatocytes to be susceptible to other multiple pathogenetic factors. The recent knowledge gained from these advances can be applied clinically in the prevention and management of NAFLD and its associated metabolic changes. 3Role of cystatin C and renal resistive index in assessment of renal function in patients with liver cirrhosis显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the clinical significance of cystatin C and renal resistive index for the determination of renal function in patients with liver cirrhosis.METHODS:We conducted a study of 63 patients with liver cirrhosis.A control group comprised of 30 age and gender-matched healthy persons.Serum cystatin C was determined in all study subjects and renal Doppler ultrasonography was made.Estimated glomerular filtration rate from serum creatinine(GFRCr)and cystatin C(GFRCys)was calculated.RESULTS:We confirmed significant differences in val-ues of cystatin C between patients with different stages of liver cirrhosis according to Child-Pugh(P=0.01),and a significant correlation with model of end stage liver disease(MELD)score(rs=0.527,P<0.001).More patients with decreased glomerular filtration rate were identified based on GFRCys than on GFRCr(P<0.001).Significantly higher renal resistive index was noted in Child-Pugh C than in A(P<0.001)and B stage(P=0.001).Also,a significant correlation between renal resistive index and MELD score was observed(rs=0.607,P<0.001).Renal resistive index correlated significantly with cystatin C(rs=0.283,P=0.028)and showed a negative correlation with GFRCys(rs=-0.31,P=0.016).CONCLUSION:Cystatin C may be a more reliable marker for assessment of liver insufficiency.Additionally,cystatin C and renal resistive index represent sensitive indicators of renal dysfunction in patients with liver cirrhosis.Dorde Culafi Milos tuli Radmila Obrenovi Danijela Mileti Dragana Mija Milica Stojkovi Marija Jovanovi Milica Culafi 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,21:12
4Monoclonal immunoscintigraphy for detection of metastasis and recurrence of colorectal cancer显示文摘AIM:To assess the clinical role of monoclonal immunoscintigraphy for the detection of metastasis and recurrence of colorectal cancer.METHODS:Monoclonal immunoscintigraphy was performed in patients operated on for colorectal adenocar-cinoma suspected of local recurrence and metastatic disease.The results were compared with conventional diagnostics.RESULTS:Immunoscintigraphic investigation was done in 53 patients.Tumor recurrence occurred in 38 patients,and was confirmed by other diagnostic modalities in 35.In 15 patients,immunoscintigraphic findings were negative,and confirmed in 14 with other diagnostic methods.Comparative analysis confirmed good correlation of immunoscintigraphic findings and the results of conventional diagnostics and the level of tumor marker carcinoembryonic antigen.Statistical analysis of parameters of radiopharmaceutical groups imacis,indimacis and oncoscint presented homogenous characteristics all of three radiopharmaceuticals.The analysis of immunoscintigraphic target focus was clearly improved using tomography.CONCLUSION:Immunoscintigraphy is highly specific and has a good predictive value in local recurrence of colorectal cancer.Vera Artiko Ana Koljevic Markovi Dragana obi-aranovi Milorad Petrovi Andrija Anti Mirjana Stojkovi Marinko Zuvela Djordjije aranovi Milica Stojkovi Neboja Radovanovi Danijel Galun Aleksandar Milovanovi Jovica Milovanovi Anica Bobi-Radovanovi Zoran Krivokapic Vladimir Obradovi 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,19:4
5Land degradation and management of red beds in China:Two case studies显示文摘Red beds cover approximately 9.5%of China,and are home to approximately 144 million people.In total,83%of these lands are distributed in humid regions making it an important part of research on red bed soil erosion in China in these areas.This paper presents the main types of land degradation in red bed landscapes and the status of current soil erosion in a typical red bed basin,the Nanxiong Basin located in the north of Guangdong Province,China,and establishes the connection between management strategies and regional economic development in humid red bed regions of China.The soil erosive modulus was calculated in the Nanxiong Basin by using RUSLE(The Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation).The results of overlapping analyses demonstrated that appropriate measures,such as the Return Farmland to Forests initiative,should be taken at the junction of central red bed areas and mountainous areas in order to mitigate current soil erosion.Two examples are presented to demonstrate this:the tourism development in Mt.Danxiashan,a noted scenic mountainous area near Nanxiong Basin,and the land degradation mitigation in the Nanxiong Basin.Both examples promote local economic growth while simultaneously protecting the environment.A‘stakeholder'strategy is pursued at Mt.Danxiashan,which can help residents to understand their positive effects on the environment as well as increase their income.The second example,in Nanxiong City,showcases how local farmers became stakeholders by implementing contract responsibility and self-support systems for economic forests and terraced land in the 1980s.YAN Luo-bin Milica KASANIN-GRUBIN 2019Journal of Mountain Science2019,16,11:4
6Galectin-3 possible involvement in antipsychotic-induced metabolic changes of schizophrenia:A minireview显示文摘Recently,specific immunometabolic profiles have been postulated in patients with schizophrenia,even before full-blown disease and independent of antipsychotic treatment.Proteomic profiling studies offer a promising potential for elucidating the cellular and molecular pathways that may be involved in the onset and progression of schizophrenia symptoms,and co-occurrent metabolic changes.In view of all this,we were intrigued to explore galectin-3(Gal-3)as a glycan,and in our previous study,we measured its elevated levels in remission of schizophrenia.The finding may be a consequence of antipsychotic treatment and may have an impact on the onset of inflammation,the development of obesity,and the presumed cognitive changes in schizophrenia.In the animal study,it was shown that downregulation of Gal-3 was beneficial in insulin regulation of obesity and cognitive preservation.Strategies involving plasma exchange are discussed in this review,particularly in the context of Gal-3 elimination.Milica M Borovcanin Katarina Vesic Milena Jovanovic Natasa R Mijailovic 2021World Journal of Diabetes2021,12,10:4
7Geochemistry of Sediments from the Lopare Basin(Bosnia and Herzegovina):Implications for Paleoclimate,Paleosalinity,Paleoredox and Provenance显示文摘A combined inorganic and organic geochemical study was carried out on marls and mudstones collected from the Lower Miocene Lopare Basin,Bosnia and Herzegovina.A total of 46 samples collected from two boreholes,Pot 1(depth of 193 m)and Pot 3(depth of 344 m),showed that element abundances like boron(B),lithium(Li),strontium(Sr),uranium(U),chromium(Cr),nickel(Ni),magnesium(Mg),sodium(Na)and calcium(Ca)are much higher than average than in the upper continental crust(UCC).Chemical composition indicates at least two sources:(i)Mesozoic ophiolites occurring in the north of the investigated area,and(ii)dacito-andesitic pyroclastics(Mesozoic to Cenozoic).Lopare Basin sedimentation was influenced by strong evaporation resulting in a partly hypersaline lake,which formed during a warm climatic period,probably during the Miocene Climatic Optimum.A brief episode of humid climate conditions resulted in the basin fillingup and deposition of felsic sediments enriched in thorium(Th).Organic geochemistry shows that the majority of studied sediments contains predominantly immature to marginally mature algal organic matter(OM).The biomarker patterns are generally in agreement with the geological history of the Lopare Basin and inorganic and mineralogical data.Conversely,the molecular distribution of n-alkanes as reliable climatic andδ-MTTC as paleosalinity indicators do not support this conclusion.AleksandraŠAJNOVIĆ Nenad GRBA Franz NEUBAUER Milica KAŠANIN-GRUBIN Ksenija STOJANOVIĆ Nenad PETKOVIĆ Branimir JOVANČIĆEVIĆ 2020Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2020,94,5:2
8Bayesian inference of atomistic structure in functional materials显示文摘Tailoring the functional properties of advanced organic/inorganic heterogeneous devices to their intended technological applications requires knowledge and control of the microscopic structure inside the device.Atomistic quantum mechanical simulation methods deliver accurate energies and properties for individual configurations,however,finding the most favourable configurations remains computationally prohibitive.We propose a‘building block’-based Bayesian Optimisation Structure Search(BOSS)approach for addressing extended organic/inorganic interface problems and demonstrate its feasibility in a molecular surface adsorption study.In BOSS,a Bayesian model identifies material energy landscapes in an accelerated fashion from atomistic configurations sampled during active learning.This allowed us to identify several most favourable molecular adsorption configurations for C_(60) on the(101)surface of TiO_(2) anatase and clarify the key molecule-surface interactions governing structural assembly.Inferred structures were in good agreement with detailed experimental images of this surface adsorbate,demonstrating good predictive power of BOSS and opening the route towards large-scale surface adsorption studies of molecular aggregates and films.Milica Todorović Michael U.Gutmann Jukka Corander Patrick Rinke 2019npj Computational Materials2019,,1:2
