1Characterization of Nitrogen Uptake Pattern in Malaysian Rice MR219 at Different Growth Stages Using ^(15)N Isotope显示文摘Nitrogen(N) use efficiency is usually less than 50%, and it remains a major problem in rice cultivation. Controlled release fertilizer(CRF) technology is one of the well-known efforts to overcome this problem. The efficiency of CRF, however, is very much dependent on the timing of nutrient release. This study was conducted to determine the precise time of N uptake by rice as a guideline to develop efficient CRF. Fertilizer N uptake by rice at different growth stages was investigated by using 15 N isotopic technique. Rice was planted in pots, with 15 N urea as N source at the rate of 120 kg/hm2. Potassium and phosphorus were applied at the same rate of 50 kg/hm2. Standard agronomic practices were employed throughout the growing periods. Rice plants were harvested every two weeks until maturation at the 14 th week and analyzed for total N and 15 N content. Nitrogen derived from fertilizer was calculated. Total N uptake in plants consistently increased until the 11 th week. After that, it started to plateau and finally declined. Moreover, N utilization by rice plants peaked at 50%, which occurred during the 11 th week after transplanting. N derived from fertilizer in rice plants were in the range of 18.7% to 40.0% in all plant tissues. The remaining N was derived from soil. Based on this study, N release from CRF should complete by the 11 th week after planting to ensure the maximum fertilizer N uptake by rice plants. 4Genetic association study of P2x7 A1513C(rs 3751143) polymorphism and susceptibility to pulmonary tuberculosis: A meta-analysis based on the findings of 11 case-control studies显示文摘Objective:To summarize the precise association between pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB) and P2x7 A1513 C gene polymorphism.Methods:PubMed and Google Scholar web-databases were searched for the studies reporting the association of P2x7 A1513 C polymorphism and PTB risk.A meta-analysis was performed for the selected case-control studies and pooled odds ratios(ORs) and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs) were calculated for all the genetic models.Results:Eleven studies comprising 2 678 controls and 2 113 PTB cases were included in this meta-analysis.We observed overall no significant risk in all the five genetic models.When stratified population by the ethnicity,Caucasian population failed to show any risk of PTB in all the genetics models.In Asian ethnicity,variant allele(C vs.A:P=0.001;QR=1.375,95%CI=1.159-1.632) and heterozygous genotype(AC vs.AA:P=0.001;OR=1.570,95%CI=1.269-1.944) demonstrated significant increased risk of PTB.Likewise,recessive genetic model(CC+AC vs.AA:P=0.001;OR=1.540,95%CI= 1.255-1.890) also demonstrated increased risk of PTB in Asians.Conclusions:Our meta-analysis did not suggest the association of P2x7 A1513 C polymorphism with PTB risk in overall or separately in Caucasian population.However,it plays a significant risk factor for predisposing PTB in Asians.Future larger sample and expression studies are needed to validate this association.Eyad M.A.Alshammari Raju K.Mandal Mohd Wahid Sajad A.Dar Arshad Jawed Mohammed Y.Areeshi Saif Khan Md.Ekhlaque Ahmed Khan Aditya K.Panda Shafiul Haque 2016Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,12:1

8Mechanical characteristics of oil palm fiber reinforced thermoplastics as filament for fused deposition modeling(FDM)显示文摘Fibers are increasingly in demand for a wide range of polymer composite materials.This study^purpose was the development of oil palm fiber(OPF)mixed with the thermoplastic material acrylonitrile butadiene styrene(ABS)as a composite filament for fused deposition modeling(FDM).The mechanical properties of this composite filament were then analyzed.OPF is a fiber extracted from empty fruit bunches,which has proved to be an excellent raw material for biocomposites.The cellulose content of OPF is 43%-65%,and the lignin content is 13%-25%.The composite lilament consists of OPF(5%,mass fraction)in the ABS matrix.The fabrication procedure included alkalinizing,drying,and crushing the OPF to develop the composite.The OPF/ABS materials were prepared and completely blended to acquire a mix of 250 g of the material for the composition.Next,the FLD25 filament extrusion machine was used to form the OPF/ABS composite into a wire.This composite filament then was used in an FDM-based 3D printer to print the specimens.Finally,the printed specimens were tested for mechanical properties such as tensile and flexural strength.The results show that the presence of OPF had increased the tensile strength and modulus elasticity by approximately 1.9%and 1.05%,respectively.However,the flexural strength of the OPF/ABS composite had decreased by 90.6%compared with the virgin ABS.Lastly,the most significant outcome of the OPF/ABS composite was its suitability for printing using the FDM method.Mohd Nazri Ahmad Mohammad Khalid Wahid Nurul Ain Maidin Mohd Hidayat Ab Rahman Mohd Hairizal Osman Izzati Fatin Alis@Elias 2020Advances in Manufacturing2020,8,1:0
