| 1 | Evaluation of penile hemodynamic status and adjustment of treatment alternatives in Peyronie's disease显示文摘Aim:Erectile dysfunction may be observed in up to 80%of patients with Peyronis's disease.An objective evaluation of the erectile function is attempted to work out in patients with Peyronie's disease.Methods:Penile deformity,sexual function and penile vascular status were analyzed in 123patients with Peyronis's disease,who had not received any pertinent treatment.Results:Penile edformity,palpable plaque and pain on erection were seen in112(91%),97(78.8%)and27(21.9%)of the123patients,respectively.Of the 76patients evaluated by color Doppler ultrasounography,veno-occlusive dysfunction as the vascular component for erectile dysfunction was found in 17(22.3%),arterial insufficiency in10(13.1%)and a mixed picture in 23(30.2%).Conclusion:The documentation of penile erectile function and the determination of the vascular status using color Doppler ultrasonography can guide the appropriate therapeutic choice. | Tibet Erdogru Murat Savas Namik Yilmaz Mustafa Faruk Usta Turker Koksal Mutlu Ates Mehmet Baykara | 2002 | Asian Journal of Andrology2002，4，3： | 2 |

| 7 | Paraoxonase-1 gene in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease investigation Q192R and L55M polymorphisms显示文摘BACKGROUND: The effect of increased oxidative stress on the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) is well known. One of the antioxidative systems against oxidative stress in human body is paraoxonase(PON) enzyme that protects low density lipoproteins(LDL) against oxidation. This study aimed to explore the polymorphisms on PON1, Q192 R, L55 M genes of patients with COPD.METHODS: DNAs extraction was obtained from blood samples of 50 patients diagnosed with COPD and 50 patients as a control group who were presented to emergency clinic. Genotypes were obtained with polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and AIw I and Hsp92 II restriction enzymes were used for Q192 R and L55 M polymorphisms, respectively. Analysis of data was done with the Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test.RESULTS: A statistically significant difference in Q192 R polymorphism was found between the COPD patients and the control group(P=0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in L55 M polymorphisms between the patient and control groups(P>0.05). Q192 R polymorphism was significantly correlated with the PON1 gene and cigarette smoking; however other risk factors did not show any significant correlation with this polymorphism. | 8 | A new approach for development of vaccine against visceral leishmaniasis: Lipophosphoglycan and polyacrylic acid conjugates显示文摘Objective: To determine the antileishmanial vaccine effectiveness of lipophosphoglycan(LPG) and polyacrylic acids(PAA) conjugates on in vivo mice models.Methods: LPG molecule was isolated and purified from large-scale Leishmania donovani parasite culture. Protection efficacies of LPG alone, in combination with Freund's adjuvant, in a physical mixture and in conjugate(consisting of various LPG concentrations) with PAA, were comparatively determined by various techniques, such as cultivation with the micro-culture method, assessment of in vitro infection rates of peritoneal macrophages, determination of parasite load in liver with Leishman-Donovan Units, and detection of cytokine responses.Results: Obtained results demonstrated that the highest vaccine-mediated immune protection was provided by LPG-PAA conjugate due to all parameters investigated. According to the Leishman-Donovan Units results, the sharpest decline in parasite load was seen with a ratio of 81.17% when 35 mg LPG containing conjugate was applied. This value was 44.93% for the control group immunized only with LPG. Moreover, decreases in parasite load were 53.37%, 55.2% and 65.8% for the groups immunized with 10 mg LPG containing LPG-PAA conjugate, a physical mixture of the LPG–PAA, and a mixture of LPG + Freund's adjuvant, respectively. Furthermore, cytokine results supported that Th1 mediated protection occurred when mice were immunized with LPG-PAA conjugate.Conclusions: It has been demonstrated in this study that conjugate of LPG and PAA has an antileishmanial vaccine effect against visceral leishmaniasis. | 12 | Thiol/disulphide homeostasis in celiac disease显示文摘AIM To determine dynamic thiol/disulphide homeostasis in celiac disease and to examine the associate with celiac autoantibodies and gluten-free diet.METHODS Seventy three patients with celiac disease and 73 healthy volunteers were enrolled in the study. In both groups, thiol/disulphide homeostasis was examined with a new colorimetric method recently developed by Erel and Neselioglu. RESULTS In patients with celiac disease, native thiol(P = 0.027) and total thiol(P = 0.031) levels were lower, while disulphide(P < 0.001) level, disulphide/native thiol(P < 0.001) and disulphide/total thiol(P < 0.001) ratios were higher compared to the control group. In patients who do not comply with a gluten-free diet, disulphide/native thiol ratio was found higher compared to the patients who comply with the diet(P < 0.001). In patients withany autoantibody-positive, disulphide/native thiol ratio was observed higher compared to the patients with autoantibody-negative(P < 0.05). | 14 | Effects of extra-corporeal shock waves on penile hemodynamics and histopathology in rats显示文摘Aim:To study the effect of extra-corporeal shock wave(ESW) on the penile hemodynamics and histopathology in rats.Methods:Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided at random into 3 groups.ESW application was performed with a siemens Lithostar with the rats under anesthesia lying prone on the balloon probe.Rats in Group I received a total of 1000 shocks at 18kV and immediately underwent hemodynamic evaluation performed by direct electrostimulation of the cavernous nerve and measurement of intracavernous pressure (ICP).Rats in Group Ⅱ received 3 times 1000 shocks at 18kV at weekly intervals and hemodynamic evaluation was performed 1 month after the last ESW application.Group Ⅲ served as the control.Histopathological examinations of penile tissues were done on Masson's trichrome and hematoxylin and eosin stained sections.Results:Penile hemodynamic evaluation showed a trend toward a diminished mean maximal ICP,duration of erection,ICP during the plateau phase and maximal ICP/blood pressure ratio in Group I,although there was no significant significance.The mean latency period in Groups I and Ⅱ was prolonged.Petechial bleeding within tunical layers and small foci of hemorrhage within the corpora cavernosa were observed in Group I.However,Histopathological examination failed to reveal any significant differences between the groups in terms of smooth muscle content,tunical thickness,organization of collagen bundles and elastic fiber-lattice framework.Conclusion:ESW has certain damaging effects on the penis. | Ahmet Tefekli Abdullah Armagan Bulent Erol Murat Celtik Isi Kilicaslan Asiye Nurten Ates Kadioglu | 2002 | Asian Journal of Andrology2002，4，4： | 0 |
