3Supporting tuberculosis program in active contact tracing:a case study from Pakistan显示文摘Tuberculosis(TB)is on the rise in Pakistan and there could be multiple reasons including poverty,difficulty in access to TB treatment services,non-compliance with treatment,social stigma etc.According to the TB program managers,limited treatment and testing sites for tuberculosis and lack of trained human resources play a major role in compromising TB management.A major lacuna in the TB control program is the absence of active contact tracing strategy.This is essential for a disease where positive cases are known to be able to infect a further 10-15 individuals in a year.Tackling tuberculosis in Pakistan has been beleaguered by funding challenges and other systems’bottlenecks such as lack of skilled human resources and insufficient supply of medicines,despite the fact that disease burden is one of the highest in the world.Although it is a notifiable disease,active case finding,contact tracing and reporting is notoriously low throughout the country.Access to diagnostics and treatment facilities has been limited and stigma attached to the disease remains deeply entrenched among the communities.Researchers have shown that enhanced and active approaches to contact investigation effectively identifies additional patients with TB among household contacts at a relatively modest cost.USAID’s Integrated Health Systems Strengthening and Service Delivery Activity extended support to the Health Departments of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.In collaboration with the two provincial TB programs,community based active contact tracing was conducted on 17,696 individuals,based on the index cases.Among the contacts traced,243 cases were diagnosed as drug sensitive or drug resistant TB.Awareness sessions were conducted to sensitize people on the various aspects of disease and importance of getting tested.The project also supported establishing three satellite Programmatic Management of Drug Resistant Tuberculosis(PMDT)sites for drug resistant TB treatment,enhancing the programs’diagnostic and testing capacity.Babar Tasneem Shaikh Ahmed Khan Laghari Sulaiman Durrani Alina Chaudhry Nabeela Ali 2022Infectious Diseases of Poverty2022,11,2:1

5Near-fatal Panton-Valentine leukocidin-positive Staphylococcus aureus pneumonia,shock and complicated extracorporeal membrane oxygenation cannulation:A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Panton-Valentine leukocidin(PVL)is an exotoxin secreted by Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus),responsible for skin and soft tissue infections.As a cause of severe necrotising pneumonia,it is associated with a high mortality rate.A rare entity,the epidemiology of PVL S.aureus(PVL-SA)pneumonia as a complication of influenza coinfection,particularly in young adults,is incompletely understood.CASE SUMMARY An adolescent girl presented with haemoptysis and respiratory distress,deteriorated rapidly,with acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)and profound shock requiring extensive,prolonged resuscitation,emergency critical care and venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO).Cardiac arrest and a rare complication of ECMO cannulation necessitated intra-procedure extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation,i.e.,venoarterial ECMO.Coordinated infectious disease,microbiology and Public Health England engagement identified causative agents as PVL-SA and influenza A/H3N2 from bronchial aspirates within hours.Despite further complications of critical illness,the patient made an excellent recovery with normal cognitive function.The coordinated approach of numerous multidisciplinary specialists,nursing staff,infection control,specialist cardiorespiratory support,hospital services,both adult and paediatric and Public Health are testimony to what can be achieved to save life against expectation,against the odds.The case serves as a reminder of the deadly nature of PVL-SA when associated with influenza and describes a rare complication of ECMO cannulation.CONCLUSION PVL-SA can cause severe ARDS and profound shock,with influenza infection.A timely coordinated multispecialty approach can be lifesaving.Joshua Cuddihy Shreena Patel Nabeela Mughal Christopher Lockie Richard Trimlett Stephane Ledot Nicholas Cheshire Ajay Desai Suveer Singh 2021World Journal of Critical Care Medicine2021,10,5:1
6Machine Learning-Enabled Power Scheduling in IoT-Based Smart Cities显示文摘Recent advancements in hardware and communication technologies have enabled worldwide interconnection using the internet of things(IoT).The IoT is the backbone of smart city applications such as smart grids and green energy management.In smart cities,the IoT devices are used for linking power,price,energy,and demand information for smart homes and home energy management(HEM)in the smart grids.In complex smart gridconnected systems,power scheduling and secure dispatch of information are the main research challenge.These challenges can be resolved through various machine learning techniques and data analytics.In this paper,we have proposed a particle swarm optimization based machine learning algorithm known as a collaborative execute-before-after dependency-based requirement,for the smart grid.The proposed collaborative execute-before-after dependencybased requirement algorithm works in two phases,analysis and assessment of the requirements of end-users and power distribution companies.In the rst phases,a xed load is adjusted over a period of 24 h,and in the second phase,a randomly produced population load for 90 days is evaluated using particle swarm optimization.The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm performed better in terms of percentage cost reduction,peak to average ratio,and power variance mean ratio than particle swarm optimization and inclined block rate.Nabeela Awan Salman Khan Mohammad Khalid Imam Rahmani Muhammad Tahir Nur Alam MD Ryan Alturki Ihsan Ullah 2021Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,5:0

8Series solution of non-similarity natural convection boundary-layer flows over permeable vertical surface显示文摘The non-similarity solution for natural convection from a permeable isothermal vertical wall is considered. The governing boundary-layer equations for non-similarity flow and temperature fields are solved using the homotopy analysis method. The homotopy-Pade' technique is applied to accelerate the convergence of the homotopy-series solution. The influence of physical parameters on the non-similarity flows is investigated in detail. 9Computational Analysis of Heat and Mass Transfer in Magnetized Darcy-Forchheimer Hybrid Nanofluid Flow with Porous Medium and Slip Effects显示文摘A computational analysis of magnetized hybrid Darcy-Forchheimer nanofluid flow across a flat surface is presented in this work.For the study of heat and mass transfer aspects viscous dissipation,activation energy,Joule heating,thermal radiation,and heat generation effects are considered.The suspension of nanoparticles singlewalled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs)and multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs)are created by hybrid nanofluids.However,single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs)produce nanofluids,with water acting as conventional fluid,respectively.Nonlinear partial differential equations(PDEs)that describe the ultimate flow are converted to nonlinear ordinary differential equations(ODEs)using appropriate similarity transformation.The ODEs are dealt with numerically by means of MATLAB’s inbuilt routine function bvp4c.Velocity,temperature,and concentration profiles are explained pictorially whereas Sherwood number,local skin friction coefficient,and Nusselt number values are represented through bar charts.Thermal radiation and activation parameters shows direct impact on flow field.Furthermore,hybrid nanofluid admits a higher magnitude of velocity and temperature than nanofluid,but the concentration profile exhibits the opposite trend.The notable findings of the present investigation have significant applications in heat combustion and cooling chambers,space technology,the ceramics industry,paint and conductive coatings,bio-sensors,and many more.Nosheen Fatima Nabeela Kousar Khalil Ur Rehman Wasfi Shatanawi 2023Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2023,137,12:0
10Intelligent computing networks for nonlinear influenza-A epidemic model显示文摘The differential equations having delays take paramount interest in the research community due to their fundamental role to interpret and analyze the mathematical models arising in biological studies.This study deals with the exploitation of knack of artificial intelligence-based computing paradigm for numerical treatment of the functional delay differential systems that portray the dynamics of the nonlinear influenza-A epidemic model(IA-EM)by implementation of neural network backpropagation with Levenberg-Marquardt scheme(NNBLMS).The nonlinear IA-EM represented four classes of the population dynamics including susceptible,exposed,infectious and recovered individuals.The referenced datasets for NNBLMS are assembled by employing the Adams method for sufficient large number of scenarios of nonlinear IA-EM through the variation in the infection,turnover,disease associated death and recovery rates.The arbitrary selection of training,testing as well as validation samples of dataset are utilizing by designed NNBLMS to calculate the approximate numerical solutions of the nonlinear IA-EM develop a good agreement with the reference results.The proficiency,reliability and accuracy of the designed NNBLMS are further substantiated via exhaustive simulations-based outcomes in terms of mean square error,regression index and error histogram studies.Nabeela Anwar Muhammad Shoaib Iftikhar Ahmad Shafaq Naz Adiqa Kausar Kiani Muhammad Asif Zahoor Raja 2023International Journal of Biomathematics2023,16,4:0
