| 2 | Oligomeric Procyanidins Induce Generation of Reactive Oxygen Species and Collapse of Mitochchondrial Membrane Potential in Glioblastoma Cell Lines显示文摘Objective The aim of the present study was to clarify the mechanism underlying glioma cell death upon oligomeric procyanidins (F2) exposure. Methods The cytotoxicity of F2 on U87 (human malignant glioblastoma cell line) and C6 (rat glioma cell line) cancer cells was evaluated, and changes of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in drug-treated cells were monitored. Moreover, morphological changes associated with F2-induced cells death were examined. Results F2 induced a concentration-dependent increase in ROS production and decrease in MMP. Furthermore, pre-incubation with N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and rotenone (Rt), resulted in partial inhibition of F2-induced ROS generation and marked attenuation of cell death and the cytoplasmic vacuolization induced by F2. In addition, pretreatment with Rt markedly attenuated the MMP loss in F2-treated cells. However, pretreatment with NAC only markedly attenuated the MMP loss in F2-treated C6 cells. | 3 | Free Radical Imaging Techniques Applied to Hydrocarbon Flames Diagnosis显示文摘This paper evaluates the utilization of the radical chemiluminesecnce imaging and tomographic reconstruction techniques to assess advanced information on reacting flows. Two different laboratory flow configurations were analyzed, including unconfined non-premixed jet flame measurements to evaluate name fuel/air mixing patterns at the burner-port of a typical glass-furnace burner. The second case characterized the reaction zone of premixed flames within gas turbine combustion chambers, based on a laboratory scale model of a lean prevaporized premixed (LPP) combustion chamber. The analysis shows that advanced imaging diagnosis can provide new information on the characterization of flame mixing and reacting phenomena. The utilization of local C2 and CH chemiluminescence can assess useful information on the quality of the combustion process, which can be used to improve the design of practical combustors. | A. Creep induced decomposition of a metastable η’T phase and a four phase transformation, α+ ε →T’ +η, occurred during the creep testing. Also a microstructural change was observed from a lamellar structure into a spheroidized structure in the rupture part of the extruded alloy. It provided evidence of creep induced phase transformations which occurred in ageing process. | 12 | Geochemistry of a Tidal Transgressive Heterolithic Succession: The Ituzaingó Formation (Middle Miocene), Argentina显示文摘Geochemical analysis by means of XRF and ICP\|AES was carried out on 35 selected samples. Major and trace elements were determined. They were: CaCO\-3, P\-2O\-5, Fe\-2O\-3, TiO\-2, SiO\-2, Al\-2O\-3, CaO, K\-2O, MnO, Rb, Cs, Ga, Zr, Ta, Nb, Sr, Ba, Cr, Ni, Zn, Pb, Cu, V and B. The country rocks studied were of sandy\|muddy lithofacies, belonging to a typical tide marine transgressive heterolithic succession of Middle Miocene age. They are called the Ituzaingó Formation. The formation outcrops in northeastern Argentina on the left of the Paraná River Valley. The depositional setting largely depends on the outstanding internal structures and textures (i.e., herringbone cross stratification, tidal bundles, reactivation surfaces). In the study area, loessial friable sediment was used as geochemical background because it overlies shallow marine sediments. The results show significant differences. Boron is absent in loessial sediments. On the other hand, several trace elements such as vanadium and chromium are concentrated in the shallow marine sediments. | 13 | Hematological Parameters in Bufo arenarum Injected With Sublethal Dose of Lead Acetate显示文摘Lead has been recognized as a high risk toxic for most organisms including human. The effects of Pb in non-mammalian vertebrates are oprly known, particularly in anuran amphibians. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of this metal on some hematological parameters of adult Bufo arenarum. It was found that all parameters remained unaltered within normal ranges, with the exception of reticulocyte counts which was significantly increased compared to the in controls (3. 7% vs. 0. 2 % ). It is suggested that the selective change found in reticulocyte count might be considered as an early response of a biomarker to sublethal exposition of Bufo arenarum to lead. | S. I. PERi N. E. | 15 | Depth-related distribution of bacterial community in sediments of eutrophic Guanting reservoir显示文摘In this study, DNAs were extracted from sediment samples at depths of 5, 35, and 69 cm from eutrophic Guanting reservoir, China. 16S rDNAs were amplified by PCR and clone libraries were constructed. The depth-related distribution of bacterial community in the sediment was characterized by using amplified 16S rDNA restriction analysis (ARDRA) and sequencing of the dominant clones. The results indicated that species diversity in the sediment of Guanting reservoir was rather high with the Shannon-Wiener index about 5.8. Bacterial richness varied in different depths: the highest in the sample of 35 cm in depth; followed by the sample of 5 cm in depth; and the lowest bacterial richness in the sample of 69 cm. Dominant species from the three samples were different although there were some common clones. PhyIogenetic analysis showed that all of the dominant clones in the three layers were uncultured bacteria and distantly related to the previously reported species in beta or gamma subclass of proteobacteria, including bacterial groups that have the ability to degrade aromatic hydrocarbons, n-all:anes, chlorinated organic compounds, or to accumulate polyphosphate, etc. Changes of deptt-related bacterial community in the Guanting reservoir sediment might reflect the pollution history and the water quality of the reservoir. | 18 | Microstructures of Thermomechanically Treated Eutectoid Zn-Al Alloy显示文摘A continuously cast eutectoid Zn-Al alloy was extruded at about 250℃ and the complex microstructures of three phases (α. ε and η’E) were observed in the extruded eutectoid Zn-Al alloy.The fcc Al-rich α phase appeared as isolated particles with clear boundaries instead of the α phase occurring with diffuse boundary within the dendrites of the as-cast structure. A new unstable phase η’E was determined to have hexagonal close packed crystal structure. The decomposed β’s, phase comprised the matrix. The new phase η’E decompoeed and a four phase transformation α+ε T’+η occurred afterwards during the isothermal holding. The extruded alloy tended to be stable after these two phase transformations. The early shrinkage and the following increase in dimension were related to the decomposition of the new phase η’E and the four phase transformation. | Y.
